As usual, started a group on ESPN.

http://games.espn.go.com/tcmen/group?groupID=13534

Group Name: mafiascum.net
Password: upseteveryone

Selection Sunday is this Sunday, bracket needs to be filled out between then and next Thursday.

One bracket per user for this group, please. You can create up to 10 on ESPN and enter them in other groups (or just have them for extra chances at the prizes).

I got second last year on another forum merely based on a crapshoot. As false as fallacies are, it's fun to think you're bound for first this year.

I bet you I'll win anyway.

Jeff Eisenberg put together a list of do's and don'ts for filling out a March Madness bracket. One comment in particular was pretty amusing:
Jeff Eisenberg wrote:DON'T: Put all four No. 1 seeds in your Final Four. It has only happened in 2008, and this year's No. 1s aren't juggernauts like Kansas, Memphis, UCLA and North Carolina were that season. Plus, if you don't take some risks, you'll wind up losing your bracket contest to the mail clerk who did.
Ah, now that brings back some fond memories... :D

Haven't looked at the bracket yet, but it's likely that I will pick all four #1 seeds again. Hey, it worked before...

Kind of annoying that (on ESPN) I have to click a team 20 times before it actually picks them...

Brackets filled out on both. Booyah!
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

Bump. Time's running out to fill 'em out. You might as well fill out the max number of brackets for each website if you want to at least give the cash contests a whirl (because obviously your bracket is going to be awesome and dominate the world.)

(PS: Yahoo!'s offering $1M for a perfect bracket. You never know, you might have the one.) :D

They could hand out $1B and still be perfectly safe. No way is anyone ever going to have a perfect bracket. Way too many games.

On the other hand, if one guy enters to all those contests and is perfect... just quit your job and wait for those annuities to pour in. :D

We can get an Actuary figure out the odds. I'm willing to bet a $1B prize would be a bit high and no insurance company would take the chance.

Hint: It's not as simple as 632. It's better than that.

That's what I meant. The fact still remains that it's better odds than that.

Well, you can remove all the 1v16, 2v15 and almost guarantee removing 3v14.
That would cut it down by a couple orders of magnitude.

I mean, if no upsets occured, there would only be 23 possibilities! Those are odds I want.

Well, assuming all the matchups are decided by random chance, then the odds that your picks are correct are (.5^32)(.5^16)(.5^8)(.5^4)(.5^2)(.5), or about .000000000000000108%

Best of luck with that.
