Mini 839 -- Mafia Invasion! (Game Over)

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Thu Aug 27, 2009 5:05 am

Post by RedCoyote »

"Don Coyote," the gentleman prefixed soothingly, "they've been dropped off."

The Don reclined back steadily and pondered his situation. The plan was in action. His forefathers would've surely been proud of the way he handled this. It would have never been a problem for him to just order them taken out himself, but an ingenious idea is hard to pass up on. There was one way to stay ahead in this business, one golden rule, that you don't get your hands dirty unneccesarily. What better way to get rid of a problem then by convincing someone else that your problem is their problem? He held out a sheet of paper, a print out from his computer,
  • Image
"Take this," the Don added, "feed it to the pigs, the newsmen... tape it on everyone's door. I want every citizen in that town out for
blood

Voting
-
Votes must be in
bold
, clear context (
Vote: RedCoyote
/
Vote: No Lynch
). This is your power, we both want it to be counted fairly, so try to make it so there's no question who you are voting and unvoting. Unvotes must also be in
bold
and are necessary before changing a vote (
Unvote
). I will be strict about counting votes this way to ensure everyone has a clear understanding of what does and does not count as a vote. There will be no tolerance for vote tricks, please do not try to play with any technical aspect of this rule.

Lynching
-
Once a player is lynched, the game will go into "twilight", and the fate of the town has effectively been sealed for that Day phase. The town, as well as the player who has been lynched, is welcome to continue to talk until I officially bring the game into the Night phase. The town
must
come to a concensus before the deadline in order for a lynch to go through. Ties will not be broken by me, no matter which wagon formed first. If the town cannot reach a majority or break a tie before the deadline, the Day phase will end without a lynch. This town has the option not to lynch, provided it meets the required simple majority of votes.

Deadlines
-
All deadlines are subject to extension should the need arise. Every Day phase has an initial two week deadline that may be extended once either by means of a simple majority of players or by my disgression. By contrast, every Night phase has a firm 72 hour, or three day, deadline.

Absence, Prods, and Replacements
-
If you are unable to post for a period of longer than 72 hours, please inform me by PM or make it clear in the game thread. All players have a right to know whether or not a player is absent, and any player who informs me of a future absence will be noted as such. Prods will take place at the request of the players in the game as well as at my disgression. If a player receives a prod, they have exactly 48 hours from the time of that prod to show activity before a request for a replacement will be made. At that point, whomever claims the player slot will then become the person playing the game.

Night Actions
-
I will accept any and all actions submitted to me pre-Night phase, but be forewarned, once a decision is made it cannot be undone except under specific circumstances (e.g. replacements or Moderator kills). If no night action is submitted to me before the end of the Night phase, the player is assumed to have slept through the night, and no action will take place.

Prohibitions
-
To help ensure a fair, balanced, and fun game, it is prohibited to talk to other players outside of this thread unless you are given specific instructions on how to do so. All players who have been lynched, killed, or otherwise removed from the game are prohibited from making any new posts or talking with any of the living players about the game until the game has been declared over. Respecting tradition, "Bah!" posts are expected, but you must respect the boundries of the game. It is prohibited from quoting or paraphrasing any Mod PMs for any purpose other than to reasonably claim and explain one's powers. It is prohibited to use invisible text, small text, or to otherwise edit your post in anyway. It is prohibited to use the color
red
in order to make sure there are no quarrels over what is and isn't an edit that I have made. I will only be using the color
red
in edits. Any form of trolling, misbehavior, or poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated and is hereby prohibited.

Questions and Concerns
-
Do not be weary of asking me for any assistance in understanding any aspect of this game. If anyone spots any mistakes I may have made, please do send me a PM. You may expect a response within a maximum of 48 hours. If there is anything else you feel I have not covered, or have not covered adequately, please point it out to me.

Thank you
-
Thanks to SpyreX and OhGodMyLife for helping me with the setup. SpyreX is the game's official back-up Moderator. If anything happens to me, he has all of the role PMs and who they belong to. Thanks to everyone for signing up, and I hope everyone has a good time.

If I could have everyone's attention, please. I would like for everyone to fill out a quick survey for future reference.

1. How many games have you played to completion on this site?
2. Do you play Mafia on other sites? If so, what is different about those sites vs. here?
3. Do you consider yourself an experienced player?
4. Which other players in this game have you played with in the last six months?
5. Do you prefer to be Town, scum, or third party? Why?
6. Who is your favorite fictional character, and why?
7. How many scum do you think are in this game?
8. Why are you filling this survey out?
9. Do you think this survey will be useful in finding scum?
10. Am I more likely to be Town or scum in creating this survey?
11. Is English your first language?
Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend.

1. How many games have you played to completion on this site?

1

2. Do you play Mafia on other sites? If so, what is different about those
sites vs. here?
I play on epicmafia, chatbased. PR/vanilla and mafia/town ratio is generally higher.

3. Do you consider yourself an experienced player?

Not with forum mafia, still got a load to learn.

4. Which other players in this game have you played with in the last six months?

Vi, Porkens and Col. c.

5. Do you prefer to be Town, scum, or third party? Why?

I like both.
Town becouse you got to hunt for scum instead pretending to do so.
Scum becouse you have more information to use, and manipulating town can be fun.
Have to play more forum games to get a real prefered allignment.

6. Who is your favorite fictional character, and why?

Not really a favorite.

7. How many scum do you think are in this game?

3 or 4, 25% rules seems often applied on site, so 3 is more likely.

8. Why are you filling this survey out?

Way to gain more discussion and get out of RVS.

9. Do you think this survey will be useful in finding scum?

Not directly, no.

10. Am I more likely to be Town or scum in creating this survey?

Would see it doing by eather allignment. It seems pro-town, so I would say town.

11. Is English your first language?

No.

12. What scumtell have you found to be most effective?

Has not lynch scum yet as town(or any finished town games for that matter), so I might have to find a effective one. On Epicmafia, the ¨why me?¨ tell is rather effective.

I absolutely refuse and forbid anyone else from answering these questions.

In the literally thousands of games I've played here on Mafia Scum, I've seen this strategy many times. I've even seen it on Epic Mafia, where the people rely solely on power roles to win/loose games. In my vast experience, surveys such as this serve only to draw attention away from the real conversation. Actually, they do one more thing: the person writing the survey usually gets a free pass while the others squabble...just like what happened when I played with Vi just a couple months ago in Tofu. Such a situation is perfect for a third party SK, too, because they can just ride the wake of the chaos ship; SO enjoyable.

@Porkens, how is this different from the questions I asked in newb 803? It was not a survey, but it where questions not with the game itself related. Like how did you discover mafia, or importance of the RVS stage. It gets a game out of RVS and I would see it as a good thing happening to a game.

Why is the survey of Vi suspicious. And the questions I asked at that time not? Is it being a survey a big thing? (I was scum, but at that time you did not suspect me at all)

Needlessly to say, I disagree heavily.
Establishing a baseline meta read on you will do me (and all of you should you choose to use these answers) nothing but good.
To contrast, not doing so will only make it harder for me/us to discern your alignment, which will make this game harder (and more importantly, give me a headache which may possibly cause me to flame you).

At the very least you could humor me. If you don't believe it will be helpful, it can't hurt. Can it?

Okay then Vi. If you can pick the three questions from that list you deem most important, I'll answer them. I really don't think my favourite fictional character would give you a 'baseline meta read', hmm?

It would.

You realize that with all the trouble you're giving me you could just answer the survey and be done with it.
The questions are direct and should not require much forethought, so it shouldn't take more time than any other post.

You're right, I could. Neither do I have anything particularly against answering the questions. That said, I don't have anything particularly for answering the questions either: I don't feel a need to sing my meta nor defend my alignment at this point in the game. Like Porkens said, the person writing the survey usually gets a free pass, so I'm just throwing the choice back at you.

I'm being difficult on purpose, don't take it personally, kay? :D

Clearly I'm not getting a free pass, and was not getting a free pass before you said anything.
I would also add that what Adel got in Tofu Mafia
hardly
qualified as a free pass; in fact, Adel was slammed pretty heavily for not answering his own survey days after he promised to do so - plus his survey was much more unreasonable than this one.

Why?

Your definition of 'free pass' is not quite the same as mine. Throwing out those questions lets you stand on the side of the interrogation table that I would rather be standing on. Usually I wouldn't particularly care which side of the table I'm on, but once someone declares themselves that they stand on the questioning side over everyone else (your telling everyone to answer the survey was such a gesture to me), I'd rather not simply obediently sit on the other side. Yes, I am selfish.

It's my rebellious phase.

Haha, this is a trick question. You say 'why' but you actually mean 'why not'. Almost tricked me there. I don't want to answer 'why not' until you can answer 'why': Why would I need to?
Also, you seem to be quite serious about this.
"How important is it for you that I answer those questions?"

Vote imaginality.

He was last in the player list, a random enough characteristic, I suppose.

There is no "interrogation table". Communication in this game should go both ways - you answer me, I answer you, and nobody's "above" questioning. The world works very nicely that way.
Needlessly to say, I am not exempt from my own questioning and will answer my survey after everyone else has.

I would like for you to "sing your meta and defend your alignment" because this line of questioning is not helping me determine yours.

That should answer your next question. I believe that your answers to the survey will help me determine your alignment. If you are going to deliberately impede this, I see no option but to believe that you don't want me to know. There is no reason for you not to want me to know your alignment unless you are scum and I'm not, etc., etc.

Enough wasting time. Let's talk alignments.
*Am I scum according to the information you have so far? Why?
*Why
shouldn't
I believe that you are scum impeding my investigation?

Y.C. Survey please. It will be much more effective than a random vote.

jammer wrote:@Porkens, how is this different from the questions I asked in newb 803? It was not a survey, but it where questions not with the game itself related. Like how did you discover mafia, or importance of the RVS stage. It gets a game out of RVS and I would see it as a good thing happening to a game.

Why is the survey of Vi suspicious. And the questions I asked at that time not? Is it being a survey a big thing? (I was scum, but at that time you did not suspect me at all)
Jammer, you're acting like Frank Dekkard from Blade Runner here, which could be awesome; your memory is a little selective, but you still play it cool. The fact that you'd reference a play you made, as scum, to accuse me of double standards gives me an early indication that you are, in fact, one of the 3 scum in this game.

Let me ask you something; do you think that, if you had been town in that newbie game, your survey would have been helpful in finding scum? Naturally, and grounds for conversation is valid, but this survey business is flawed, as I've pointed out before, because people don't realize it's not about the answers, and they focus on the questions.

And of course I suspected you. I played along with your game, but I knew it was you all along. My life-long relationship with the English language has left me with a remarkably accurate sense of perception about such things.

Anyways; just don't start promising re-reads and then not delivering, or I'm gunna be up yo tube.

Vote on Vi stands until she apologizes for derailing the
entire
game with this nonsense. Or until something else comes along.

P.S. I am watching something very closely, but I'll not say more on that just yet. -Pork

I acknowledge that I like ruining other peoples' fun. But no apology.
