Mini 832 - Antarctic Winter-Over Mafia - Game (Abandoned)

Antarctic Winter-Over Mafia

Mod: Jebus

Current Update: Night 5

Current Deadline: Feb 1st

Rules! Read them and Read Them Again!

1) Mod is God.

-God is all powerful. If you wish to argue, do so by PM (with the exception of faulty votecounts and such).

2) Voting.

-Votes must be bolded, followed by the player name. For example,
Vote: Jebus

-Unvotes must be bolded, and are needed to vote someone else. Player names are not required. For example,
unvote

-Votecounts will be edited on to the first post of each page. If it's not there yet, that means I haven't gotten online to do it yet.

3) Deadlines.

-Day deadlines go as follows: Eighteen days with more than 7 players alive, and ten days with seven or less players alive.
-Night deadlines are always four days.
-Deadlines are always at 1:00 GMT (That's 20:00 EST, or 17:00 PST)
-Deadlines are flexible by up to one day, depending when I can get on.
-When a deadline is reached with no majority of votes, a no-lynch occurs.
-Extensions can be requested, and will be given based on the situation.

4) Prods, Replacements, and Inactivity.

-To request a prod, post
Prod: Playername
, bolded so I see it.
-Not posting for three days gets a prod, unless the player makes note of the inactivity ahead of time (bolded).
-Inactivity V/LA notices will be edited in below the votecounts - check there before requesting a prod.
-Three prods gets a player replaced, unless no replacements are available.
-Replacement order is flexible. Unless requested otherwise, inactive players will be replaced in order of who made it to the replacement list first.

5) Outside the Game Topic.

-No discussing outside the game topic, unless I specifically tell you that you may.
-No discussing ongoing games. You can still discuss games that have ended, though I'd prefer not.

6) Sportsmanship.

-You signed up to play. Play to win, don't ruin the game for others.
-Games are for fun. Have fun, don't be a jerk please.
-Don't quote your role PM or anything of the sort.
-Don't try to outguess the mod - that's not how the game is supposed to be played.
-If you have read the rules, please state your favorite kind of cheese in the confirmation PM.
-You know the rules. If I forgot anything, please say something. Intentionally using the lack of a rule I may have forgotten to your advantage is an auto-modkill. Again, play fair

7) Misc.

-No special text, other than bold or italicized text, is allowed. This means no colors, size changes, or anything of the sort.
-
Green
is my color. Using this one is worse than using any other color.
-If you have the ability to edit posts, please DON'T.

8) Punishment.

-Warnings for minor infractions, Modkills for major infractions.
-Two warnings is a modkill.
-Warnings/modkills are non-debatable.
-Warnings/modkills are given based on the situation.

9) Mechanics of Note.

Day and Night:

-Particular actions can happen during the night or day, or one or the other only. Since it is always night in the winter at the South Pole, day and night is defined by a 12-hour period (in this case, see deadline rules).

Sleep Count:

-When you get a good night's rest, you gain 2 sleep counts. When you are visited by someone else, and do not visit anyone, you get 1 sleep count. When you visit someone, you get no sleep counts, and when you visit someone, and at least one person visits you, you lose 1 sleep count.
-Sleep count can only change at Night.
-Sleep Count helps maintain your insanity count, and comes with added bonuses.
-Sleep Counts will PM'd individually at the end of each Night.

Insanity Count:

-Every time a kill occurs, you have a 25% chance of gaining 3 insanity counts, a 50% chance of gaining 2 insanity counts, and a 75% chance of gaining 1 insanity count.
-Every sleepless night you endure (where you lose sleep counts), you gain 1 insanity count.
-Once you reach a certain Insanity Count (different for different players), you get Cabin Fever.
-Cabin Fever will be explained upon getting Cabin Fever.
-Your insanity count will go down if you get a good night's sleep.
-Your insanity count will also go down if you talk to the right person.
-Some people skip Insanity levels.
-Insanity Counts will be PM'd individually at the end of each Night.
-Even the individual does not know how many insanity counts are needed to have an effect.

Mod Note: While I have tested this setup a couple times and think it is pretty darn close to balanced, I make no promise that it is in fact balanced.

Mod Cutscene 1

The sun slowly set on the Skeleton Crew of the South Pole Station, marking the end of the summer. There was no longer any way out until summer came again. It was now the cold winter, moving closer to the midnight of the year.

After just two days in the dark, there has already been a death. Jebus was climbing out one of the roof exits on the great dome, trying to get the snow that was blocking it to fall to the ground below and free up the passage. Hitting the snow overhead, however, he realized it was more than he had expected. With a muffled scream, he fell to the ground, buried in the snow. He was dead.

Jebus, aka Matthew McMannis, a passive-roleblocker/pregame suicidal, is dead.

Note - Passive Roleblocker automatically blocks set roles from doing certain actions.

The crew was off to a bad start. Hopefully for them, it won't get worse.

Some stuff for you:
Generic Townie Win Condition wrote:You win once you have safely left South Pole Station.

Winter lasts seven days. After Night 7, town wins.

Also, if you have a quicktopic, you may use it during the 'day' - it's always night at the South Pole during the winter :P

Also, I very much dislike vanilla townies.

It is now Day 1. With 12 alive, it takes 7 to lynch. Deadline is posted in the first post.

Discuss~

Open questions:

1) Who is most likely to be scum, and why?

2) How often do you masturbate?

3) What do you think about the mechanics of this game thusfar? With the information that we've seen thats publicly available, can you think of any game breaking strategies for scum and town?

4) What are your thoughts on mass claims, in general?

5) If I am sitting in my room in nothing but my boxers does that a) Excite you, b) Disgust you, or c) Make you wanna rock me like a hurricane?

Anyone and everyone please answer.

Not off the top of my head.
Experimental wrote:4) What are your thoughts on mass claims, in general?
Well they're just not done since they can expose some of our good power roles.

1) Why did you choose not to answer questions 2 and 5?

2) We've had a whole page and a half of people, ostensibly in the game, posting ostensibly game related things. Is there nothing in those posts that you find noteworthy at all?

3) First of all, I didn't ask you why you thought they were generally not done, but rather what your opinions on them are. I don't see where you get data on them being "not done" from either, as in my experience they happen all the time. Second of all, are there situations where you can see exposing powerrole to be worth it? What are these situations? Lastly, is mafia more a game of logic, or more a game of role distribution?

I don't see how the pertain to the game.
Experimental wrote:2) We've had a whole page and a half of people, ostensibly in the game, posting ostensibly game related things. Is there nothing in those posts that you find noteworthy at all?
Not really, its just random votes at this point.
Experimental wrote:3) First of all, I didn't ask you why you thought they were generally not done, but rather what your opinions on them are. I don't see where you get data on them being "not done" from either, as in my experience they happen all the time.
I guess what I meant to say is that they're generally frowned upon. In some situations I think it's good to Mass RC. Like when the total number of players are few and we're trying to find the last remaining scum or something.
Experimental wrote:Second of all, are there situations where you can see exposing powerrole to be worth it?
Sure, sometimes it may be worth it. I wouldn't be for doing it right off the bat, but once the game has progressed more I'd be more for it.
Experimental wrote:What are these situations?
I think I've answered this.
Experimental wrote:Lastly, is mafia more a game of logic, or more a game of role distribution?
I don't understand what you mean by "role distribution".

There's nothing to go by yet.

3) What do you think about the mechanics of this game thusfar? With the information that we've seen thats publicly available, can you think of any game breaking strategies for scum and town?

Not really. But it's a really interesting mechanic.

4) What are your thoughts on mass claims, in general?

They can be good as i think they can help out the scum

The other 2 questions are really unimportant and have no connection to the game...

Anyone but myself. If I had to pick one now, it'd be you.
3) What do you think about the mechanics of this game thusfar? With the information that we've seen thats publicly available, can you think of any game breaking strategies for scum and town?
They are interesting. Until we know what 'cabin fever' means and how soon it occurs, it isn't really possible to decide on any strategy. I'd say we need some trial and error first...
4) What are your thoughts on mass claims, in general?
I like them, because I love logic games. And in many types of games (not sure yet whether this is one of those), there comes a point when they are a good idea. That point is never Day 1, though.
5) If I am sitting in my room in nothing but my boxers does that a) Excite you, b) Disgust you, or c) Make you wanna rock me like a hurricane?
Well, I dunno, send me pics. At least then I'd know if you're male or female ;) (Or neither, that would be even more interesting.)

TCold, for his nervous joking defense against Cass' vote.
Exp wrote:2) How often do you masturbate?
Once a day whenever I don't get laid. You?
Exp wrote:3) What do you think about the mechanics of this game thusfar? With the information that we've seen thats publicly available, can you think of any game breaking strategies for scum and town?
There are no obvious breaking strategies, although the power of ad hoc neighbourhoods goes slightly in favour of the town, and like Cass says, there are a lot of variables we don't know jackshit about--what interests me is why you would ask about breaking strategies for scum.
Exp wrote:4) What are your thoughts on mass claims, in general?
There's a time and a place for everything. Generally, massclaim is appropriate after a couple night, or in this case, generic action phases, and before LYLO.
Exp wrote:5) If I am sitting in my room in nothing but my boxers does that a) Excite you, b) Disgust you, or c) Make you wanna rock me like a hurricane?
All of the above.

I note that droideka and TCold are avoiding giving proper answers to the most interesting questions.

droid: are random votes not votes? Do random votes carry no information?

Calling TCold scum btw.

I do not like Experimental's number 3 question. If any of us sees or will see a game-breaking strategy for the town that we can be confident in, we will let it be known. So experimental's question is basically, "Do you see any game-breaking strategies for scum?"

What are my thoughts on mass claim? There are games for them. This is not one of those games.
