Open 161 - Pie E7 (Game Over!) before 831

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Fri Jul 31, 2009 7:35 am

Post by Debonair Danny DiPietro »

Most of you are happy little townspeople in Bruges, Belgium, what with it being like a fairy tale and all. But some of you rather think Bruges is a shithole and the only way that you could stand living amongst all the old buildings and canals is if everyone else is dead. The seven of you found a local named Yuri dead just the other day and have decided that it’s best for everyone if the seven of you straighten this whole matter out yourselves. Best of luck.

Players Alive (2/7):

ekiM

Konowa

Players Dead (5/7):

saberwolf
(vanilla townie) "lynched" day one.

VP Baltar
[replaces Mack_and_Cheese42] (doctor) shot night one.

populartajo
(mafia roleblocker) "lynched" day two.

Jackinthebox777
(cop) shot night two.

NabakovNabakov
(mafia goon) "lynched" day three.

The Rules (Thanks Hoopla,
VRK, and Pablo
!)- Please read them!

>
Fundamental

1)
The site-wide rules apply, please read them and don't do anything stupid.
2)
Unless it is explicitly stated in your role PM that you can do so, do not talk about this game outside of the game thread.
3)
Do not quote any communication you have with me, the moderator of the game. Depending on the circumstance, you may be able to paraphrase things I have sent you (such as a role PM). Use common sense and if you are unsure feel free to ask me via PM.
4)
Be courteous to your fellow player. This is just a game - please don't bring personal grudges into the game. Lets have fun, okay!

>
Voting, Lynching & Death

5)
For your vote to be counted, it must be bold, and in the form
Vote: Debonair Danny DiPietro
. Caps and colons are optional, but it does need to be bolded.
6)
Unvotes aren't necessary, but will be appreciated.
7)
A lynch will occur when a player achieves 50% +1 of the votes. When this has happened, any subsequent votes and unvotes will not be counted, and the game will enter twilight. Night will begin as soon as I have declared the lynch.
8)
You may vote for a ‘no lynch’ if desired. If a majority of the players in the game vote for a no lynch, the game will progress to night without a lynch.
9)
Once you're dead you may have a single content less 'bah' post. Don’t abuse this, it’s a privilege, not a right.

>
Activity & Deadlines

10)
Treat this game as a commitment, and try your best to stay active.
11)
Prods will be issued after 72 hours in a row without posting. If I have to prod you three times within a single day, I’ll also a final warning and the next time you’ll simply be replaced.
12)
Things come up in life, if you need time off for something, please let myself and the players know in-thread for V/LA purposes. I will be flexible, but if you can't be here for a significant amount of time I will replace you.
13)
Deadlines for each game day will be four weeks.
14)
In the event of a deadline ending without a player gaining a majority of votes, there will no lynch.
15)
Nights will have a 72 hour deadline. If you fail to send in a night choice, I will automatically default to 'no choice' for that night, and you will do nothing.
16)
In the event of replacements or any other disturbances, I will grant a deadline extension. Laziness isn't an excuse though.

>
Other Information

17)
PURPLE
is my color I will use for modly purposes. All other colors are fair game.
18)
I will try to post Vote Counts every page; closer to the top is preferable, but not always viable.
19)
It's more than possible I've missed a rule or haven't completely covered something. Don't be an ass and try to exploit it, or I will punish you. If something is fuzzy for you, please ask!
20)
I reserve the right to add more, or modify existing rules at any time. If this happens, I will let everyone know.

This game is an open set-up called Pie E7.

One of you will receive this PM…
Mod wrote:

  • During the day, try to blend in with the normal Townies, and attempt to get someone lynched.

Random vote stage is exactly that, random...isn't so random if I take myself out of it. I happened to roll a dice and it landed as me, so....yeah.

That's not an answer to my question. I don't care if it's random (though given the contradiction Konowa is noting, the question of whether it actually was random or not is still up in the air); I want to know how it helps the town.

Yes, I know how Random Voting works. However, I would argue that a dice roll that does not include you serves this purpose far better. Discussion about self-voting is canned and derivitave. People will give knee-jerk reactions (and as well they should), and no actual content will be divined. A machine could call your random vote stupid. The
only
thing we get out of your self-vote is a wagon and a cloud of suspicion around you, and if you claim to be a member of the town, how are you going to argue that it is at all helpful to the town to incur generic suspicion on yourself for no real gain?

If you disagree, I invite you to give an alternate answer to my original question: "What have you accomplished with this?"

I accomplished starting an engaging discussion, and I don't mind at all continuing this :D

as for my wagon...konowa ALWAYS jumps on the bandwagon with his first RVS vote, so nulltell there, otherwise I have no real BW.

it's RVS, giving a random vote on myself and giving a stupid reason is no different than voting for you and giving a stupid reason.

Me, two posts up wrote: Discussion about self-voting is canned and derivitave. People will give knee-jerk reactions (and as well they should), and no actual content will be divined. A machine could call your random vote stupid.
We are acting out a well-worn script. Even the post you just made is part of it. Things don't usually end well for your character. You even nullified the only tell you could point to from the wagon (that you also nullified).

If you voted for me and Konowa voted because of it; we'd have something out of the ordinary to talk about. However, if there were a Mafia textbook, the last 10 posts would have been in it under the heading "Don't Self-Vote."

See, I don't even know where to go from here.

Let's try this:
@Jackinthebox: Are you applying the "last to confirm" scumtell? Doesn't that not to apply in a 6/7 confirmed-to- start setup? (One player wouldn't be able to hold up the game and extend talking period simply by witholding confirmation)
