The way it works is you /in like any regular "mish mash" game, and then you will PM me with a character sheet. NOT in the topic, :p
Throughout the game, there will be challenges. In response to challenges, you will PM me with a story that explains how you overcome this challenge. Once all that is done, I will judge all the entries. Styles of elimination will vary from phase to phase.
A more game type explanation:
The game flow will be as follows:
Signups-Introduction by mod-phase1-results-phase2-results-etc.
After my lengthy introduction, All players will be faced with the same challenge of explaining, basically how they get into more challenges.
after this phase is over, and the same goes for all other phases, I will post the stories that made the cut. Each will be anonymous, nobody will even know whose character is whose until the end of the game!
Some challenges will be player vs player, which will most likely be in the format of: I PM both players the opposing players sheet, without revealing who the other player is of course. Then the challenge will involve writing about defeating your opponent.
Also note when I make my mod posts for starting a new phase, it will be clear what all that characters tasks will be, be it killing someone else's character, or overcoming a solo challenge. It will be in a view "outside the action" that still explains things.

As for theme, do anything from a samurai on crack to a futuristic sniper to a robot that has a fetish for elves. This is clearly going to be one of those "universe clash" like phenomenons. Pretty much any character goes!
Keep in mind that I judge challenge/sheets on writing skill, not "Well this guy is a wimp and this guy is a black belt, so he wins the challenge.", or anything else. You can make your writing in any style that fits you, and any genre that suits you (I will accept farting to death and such if I like the overall writing.). If it seems clear enough for this kind of thing, poetry would be acceptable too.
Remember, don't post character sheets in topic and don't show them to anyone. There will be reasonable times for you to write everything in any given challenge (48+ hours). Activity levels needed are moderate. If you are going to be V/LA, please post in the thread and I will try my best to sort things out, however with this kind of thing if you can't get a piece in you will most likely be killed off.
