Rules
  • 1.
This is a game. Have fun. Don't let things get personal.
    2.
During Day, you may vote for the player you want to lynch. Votes should be in the form
    Vote: Player
or they may not be counted. It is helpful to "
    Unvote
" when switching your vote to a different player, though
    this is not required
    .
    3.
Whenever a player has a majority in votes, that player will be lynched, his or her role will be revealed, and Night will begin. Once a player has reached a majority, Twilight will begin. No votes or unvotes will be registered, although talking may continue until the thread is locked. You may also
    Vote: No Lynch
; a majority will end Day without a death.
    4.
If discussion lags or Day goes on for too long, a deadline may be set. If no one has reached a majority at the deadline, the person with the most votes will be lynched given that half the remaining players are voting, otherwise it will be a no-lynch.
    5.
If there is a tie then the person who had been given
    their most recent vote first
    would be lynched.
    6.
During Night, players with role abilities may send targets for those abilities. Choices are due by the posted deadline, but day may start earlier if the choices are sent in early.
    7.
Don't edit/delete posts. Use the "Preview" button to look over your post before you submit it.
    8.
Feel free to quote role PMs from the Moderator
, however you may not quote any other PMs from the moderator or the time at which
    any
PMs were received or any links in any PMs.
    9.
People in groups (i.e. mafia, werewolves, masons etc.) are allowed to communicate by PM/QuickTopic
    at all times
(i.e. not just during the night phase). Otherwise, do not talk to anyone about this game outside the thread.
    10.
When you are killed you may make one final post (as long as it is simply an "oh well" type post that doesn't reveal any game information), but then you are dead. Do not talk until the game is over; this includes talking to living players outside the thread.
    11.
I will send out prods at my discretion/on request. Players may be replaced if a prod is not responded to.
    12.
If you have any question, complaint, or comment, PM the Moderator.

"Welcome to Shipwreck Island"

As the rain fell around them the group of guests looked at the sodden grounds, the windswept hills, and glanced amongst themselves with unimpressed expressions upon their faces. Isaac Morris continued.
"It is unfortunate that it is not a nicer day that you could be introduced to the place where you will be spending the next few days, however I assure you the house is a much nicer prospect than the surrounding environment, especially in these conditions. Please follow me."

The rain-drenched party trudged up the hill behind the small Jewish man who had met them on the boat. A few among them began to talk.
"This U. N. Owen chap certainly has a strange idea of what a relaxing and comfortable few days are" one said.
"Yes, I must agree when I got the invite I certainly had something else in mind when I heard we'd be staying on an Island" another replied.
"You know I can't remember for the life of me where I've met the Owens before."

There was a pause.

"That's funny. I can't recall them either."

No one else talked the rest of the way to the house.

---

After drying themselves off the guests settled in to the various comfortable looking chairs and lounges assorted around the living room. A few remained standing beside the fire.
"I see you are relieved to be in from the cold. Luckily there are a few servants that tend to this place and keep the fire going. Now our hosts haven't arrived yet but I am assured they will soon. In the meantime you will have to excuse me. My gastrial juices are playing up I'm afraid."

The guests milled about for a few minutes before one piped up.
"Well I frankly don't really care if Mr. and Mrs. Owen haven't arrived yet, I'm famished."
"Yes, quite. I say we get the servants to get the meal started" another agreed.
"Mr. Morris, can you call for the servants."

"Mr. Morris?"

A guest went into the room that Isacc Morris had retreated to and cried out as soon as they were through the door.

"He's dead!"

The other guests rushed into the room. One bent down to check his pulse.
"He's dead alright" he said.
"But how?"
"It looks like he was poisoned? If anyone else has gastrial problems I suggest you don't take his pills."
"But who would do this?"
One of the other guests stepped forward.
"I've been thinking about the identity of our mysterious guests. And I've come to the conclusion they don't exist."
The others looked at him with apprehension. "What?"
"No one can remember actually meeting them can they?'
They shook their heads.
"And think about their names. U. N. Owen. Unknown."
"My God, you're right!"
"I fear we might have been lead into some sort of trap. And I fear our killer may be among us."

It is now day one.

vote: Seplat
for the awfulness of the preceeding post.

Rule do not prohibit it, thus I propose a mass flavour claim - that is, people claim the name of the character they have the role of. Since we wouldn't be claiming roles, I don't see how this could help scum, and it could be a useful scumhunting tool. What do the rest of you think?

@Izzy, what was so awful about it?

I am fine on a name claim but I doubt its effectiveness as a scumhunting tool.

Name claim offers zero advantage to town as it doesn't hold scum to anything substantial whereas it may make it easier for scum to divine possible PR's.

You get my vote for an entirely pointless suggestion.

Don't name claim. The names are the same as the ones used in the book, so you could deduce everyone's role from it.

The mod is allowing us to quote role PMs. This seems to hint to me that the names are generally useless. I doubt it would help either scum or town.

There is a book,
And Then There Were None
, that this game is based on. As far as I can tell, the roles are based on the people in that book. And, the names are the same names as the people in that book. If we were to give up the names we were sent, we could look up who that person was in the book, and potentially figure out the role.

For example, the name of the killer in the book was Judge Lawrence Wargrave. The killer in this game most likely has that name as well.

There is another man named Dr. Edward George Armstrong, I bet that would be the name of the doctor, if we have one.

William Henry Blore was a police inspector, I bet that's the cop in our game, if we have one.

Google the name you were given in quotes. See if an article about the book comes up.

That reason enough not to reveal our names?

creativemind - the way you structured your post, it'd seem like you were using that quote as a basis/rationale for voting penguin.
It's an OMGUS vote - may as well have called it that, rather than using a quote and then voting for his being insane.

Having said that,

vote: DizzyIzzy

Claiming to break the game is rarely a good idea.

Further,

With the mod allowing role PM quotes
+
As Serplat mentioned, a character list of the people in play may hint largely towards possible roles.

This does not seem fruitful to me.

However, in the same breath, I also wonder about the game itself.

Where Blore and Armstrong were cop and doctor, respectively, all of us have supposedly done something or the other wrong.
Doc powers may be useful but cop results may be wholly useless in such a case.
I haven't written a game in a really long time but in my twisted mind, I'd make the cop either naive or paranoid (more the latter).
After all, the book did boil down to paranoia in the end...

Having said that, I wonder if this is mountainous...

Or maybe SK - after all, that is what Wargrave was...

However, then it'd have made only 10 little Indians... why do we have 12?
Mod even killed off Isaac Morris - I may have marooned him here to add a little bit of meat to the soup...

Just thinking out aloud here...
Your happiness is intertwined with your outlook on life.
