The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Mafia

Three weeks of destruction. Three weeks of childish pranks by that imp. You thought them mostly harmless. You were wrong.

You woke up this morning to be confronted by three difficulties.

1) The sixteen of you had been changed overnight, so that you would have to either wear a mask or die. (Luckily for you, Termina has quite a few masks lying around.) Every other inhabitant of the town has gone missing, and thanks to the masks you can't tell who else is left.
2) The Skull Kid was found dead in North Clock Town, with the mask he was wearing previously missing. A damaged Ocarina was found by his body - it may be repairable, but you would need time to do so, and time is the one thing you don't have...
3) You found a note in the Observatory, from the vanished? Astronomer. Its message is simple: unless it can be stopped, the Moon will crash into Termina in three days.

Majora's Mask is missing. The Ocarina of Time is damaged. You have only one hope.

Find Majora's Mask. Kill the Mask and its corrupted followers,. Before time runs out.

Are you ready for the Dawn of the First Day?

Rules:

<0> I am the Mod thy God. If a dispute arises, my decision is final. That said, I am not infallible - if I make a mistake or you have a question, please inform me of the problem (preferably via PM or bold text) and I will correct it.
<1> This is a game. I hope that you have fun. In return, I ask that you not have your fun at the expense of the other players in this game (in other words, don't be a jackass). Repeated or extreme violations of this rule will result in replacement or modkill.
<1a> Attempting to use loopholes in the rules to gain an advantage in the game is considered jackassery, and will be treated as such. This applies to things like encrypted codes, invisible text, editing and deleting posts, trying to use the structure of the role PM to gain an advantage, etc. Please, use your common sense!
<2> If there is a conflict between a role and the rules, the role wins.
<3> Claiming that another player is your scumbuddy will result in a modkill.
<4> Quoting private communications (role PM, mason conversations, etc.) or pretending to do the same will result in a modkill. Paraphrasing, however, is not only acceptable but encouraged unless I explicitly say otherwise.
<4a> If your English teacher would call it plagiarism, it's not a paraphrase. (This elaborative rule added 4/27/2009 to clarify Rule 4.)
<5> You may not talk with other people about this game outside of the thread (but see Rule 2).
<6> This game will have both a vote count and a FoS (Finger of Suspicion) count. All players will have 1 vote and an unlimited number of FoS'es (but see Rule 2).
<6a> In a Normal game, the FoS count will have no effect on the game other than breaking voting ties at deadline. Theme games make no such guarantee.
<7> To help the game run smoothly, votes and FoS'es should be made in bold text, and use the format Vote: XXXX and FoS: XXXX, respectively. An unvote and/or unFoS is required to remove a vote or FoS; to unvote or unFoS, please use the format Unvote: XXXX or UnFoS: XXXX.
<8> If a player has a majority of votes, that player is lynched and cannot be unvoted. You may talk during twilight unless I state otherwise.
<9>
Each game day will begin with a negotiable deadline of 2 weeks in place. At the end of each week, if I find the activity level in the game acceptable and the week does not end with the deadline, then I will extend the deadline by one week, to a maximum of twice the original deadline (a maximum of 4 weeks); the maximum deadlines are not retractable.
(See Game-Specific Rules for deadline details.)
<10> If deadline occurs without a full majority and a majority of voting players are voting for a player, that player will be lynched. Otherwise, No Lynch will occur.
<11> You may elect to No Lynch any number of times during the course of the game. In order to No Lynch, one of the two following conditions must be met: either a majority of living players must vote no lynch, or no player receives a majority of votes before deadline. (To vote No Lynch, please use the format Vote: No Lynch. FoS'es for No Lynch will not be counted.)
<12> Don't drink and post, lest ye receive Public Humilitation. (This rule is an injoke and doesn't actually do anything.)
<13> This is a Nightless setup, therefore there are no nights in this game. All abilities must be submitted during the game day and will resolve at the end of day unless otherwise stated.
<13a> A game "day" (game period) is the time between two consecutive lynches (so if you lynch a player, then lynch another player three real life days later, that game day lasts three real-life days).
"Twilight" lasts from the time the hammer vote is cast for a lynch to the time I next see the thread, and no longer. I will not accept actions after the end of "Twilight".

<13b> Each game day, if you have one or more role or mask activated abilities that are not Rapid Actions, you
MUST
send in a preliminary choice for that ability within 48 hours of the start that game day (time spent in Mask Drafts does not count towards this limit) or inform me that you will not be using an ability. Failure to do so will result in immediate forcible replacement. This is only a preliminary target; you may change your target at any point up until the lynch scene for that game day.
<14> When you die, stop posting. You may make a single "Bah!"/"Frak you!"/etc. post in the thread. You may not include game content in this post. In addition, once you are dead, please do not discuss the game with anyone other than the Mod until the game is over, as this makes the mod's life easier.
<15> All players need to post at least once every 72 hours, or inform me if this is not possible. If you do not post for 72 hours, you will be prodded. If you are prodded, then you will need to post something (a simple "/prodded" will suffice if you're short on time) within 72 hours or you will be replaced. You will receive an Official Warning the second time you fail to post for more than 72 hours. The third time you fail to post for 72 hours, you will be replaced.
<15a> If you have limited access, you need to post to this effect, either in V/LA or in the thread. If I prod you despite you declaring V/LA status, call me on it and I will be duly embarrassed.
<15b> If you post before I get around to handing out the prod, you avoid the prod.
<16> Players may only use one special ability per day (but see Rule 2). Passive abilities and factional abilities are not counted as special abilities for purposes of this rule.
<17> This game will start on Day 0 after all players have confirmed (by the method specified in their role PM). Day 0 is a no-lynch day. See Mask Rules for details.
<18> Any player who is modkilled automatically loses the game. I will modkill in the fashion that I deem most damaging to the modkilled player's faction.
<19> I reserve the right to add rules if necessary (or if I really, really want to).
<20> Okay, that's enough formal-sounding stuff. Good luck, have fun!

Game-Specific Rules:

Deadline Rules:

<21> In order to simulate the day mechanic, there are no day deadlines in this game. Instead, there is a game deadline of 144 days (72 hours in the game, where 1 game-hour equals 2 real-life days). At the end of this time, the game will end with a Mafia victory, regardless of the game state.
<22> A countdown to the game deadline, accurate to the nearest game half-hour, will be provided in each vote count.
<23> All twilights will last 1/2 game hours (1 real-life day).
<24> Time spent in Mask Drafts (see Rules 30 and 31) does NOT count towards the game deadline.
<24a> I reserve the right to revoke Rule 24 if I believe that it is being abused. (Hint: repeatedly or excessively trying to prolong Mask Drafts to gain discussion time for the main game will get Rule 24 revoked, though I will be more lenient about this Day 0)

Mask Rules:

<25> This game includes a grand total of 25 masks, corresponding to the masks seen in
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
. Each mask grants a different power (or lack thereof) when worn and begins the game in the unworn mask pool.
<26> Players MAY NOT remove their masks unless an ability says otherwise.
<27> If a player is not wearing a mask (either because they were allowed to drop their mask by an ability or because their mask was knocked off), that player MUST immediately pick up and wear an unworn mask if possible. If more than one player is not wearing a mask at the same time, see Rule 29 and 32.
<28> If a player, for any reason, cannot pick up a mask, that player dies as a state-based effect. (There are no Rapid Actions in this game that can knock off a player's mask.)
<29> When a player is killed (by lynch or killing action), that player's mask will be returned to the unworn mask pool. If a mask is killed, that mask will be removed from the game.
<30> At the beginning of the game (Day 0), a Mask Draft will occur. A chosen player (either chosen randomly or by ability) will choose a mask from the unworn mask pool and put it on (gaining that mask's abilities and removing that mask from the unworn masks pool) by posting
Take: MASKNAME
in the thread, then that player will choose another player by posting
Select: PLAYERNAME
in the thread. This process will repeat, in popcorn style, until all players are wearing masks or until all masks are worn, whichever comes first; when this happens, Day 0 will end and Twilight 0 (a normal twilight) will begin.
<31> If a player must wear two or more masks for any reason, that player chooses and puts on that many masks at the same time.
<32> At the beginning of each day, if one or more players is alive but not wearing a mask and there is at least one unworn mask in play, a Mask Draft will occur. This mask draft will only involve living players that are not currently wearing a mask, but is otherwise identical to the Mask Draft that occurs on Day 0.
<33> Each player may use up to one activated ability granted by their Mask and one activated ability granted by their role per day.

End of the Zeroth Night/Start of Mask Draft 0

It's a disaster. You're stuck here, trying to find a way to remove yourself from your masks. But you can't. You might wind up like this bozo over here...

Welcome to Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Mafia,
NPC Character
. You are the
Skull Kid
, the prankster who started all the trouble afflicting Termina today. Unfortunately, you've been informed by Majora's Mask itself that you have outlived your usefulness... better run fast...

You are
Really, Really Dead Townie
. You have the following special abilities:

Passive Abilities:

Dead
- You begin the game dead and cannot be revived by any means.
Total Reveal
- Your role PM is revealed upon your death.

Active Abilities:

Ocarina of Time with the Song of Time
- You have in your possession the Ocarina of Time with the Song of Time, which you stole from its original owner. At any time during the game, as many times as you like, you may play the Song of Time. When you do, the game will be reset to the Dawn of the First Day; all roles will be reshuffled and the game will effectively restart. This is a Rapid Action - Special; it resolves immediately upon receipt.

Remember, you can use one of your mask's activated abilities and one of your role's activated abilities each day.

True Mask:
You have no true mask.

Win Condition (Town):
You win when all other factions have left the game, or nothing can prevent the same.

Please confirm via return PM.
0) The Skull Kid, NPC Character, Really Really Dead Townie, Left Maskless in Pregame

It is now the Confirmation Stage, as well as Mask Draft 1. I am sending out roles now and will open the thread once all roles are out. Please confirm your role in the manner indicated in your role PM, then choose a mask when your turn to do so comes up. You may now talk in the thread (or outside the thread if your role allows you to do so). Kmd4390 will be the first player to select a Mask.

You are
Really, Really Dead Townie.
You have the following special abilities:

Really, Really Disturbing Discrepancy and the game has only loosely started? OMG~

Also, first nonmod post in a game I'm excited about.

OMG, first mod error of the game! It's a Tar game, I'm sure it won't be the last. - Tar

As long as people drag it out to take.
(In other words, that depends on the level of drama that comes from Hey You Picked That Mask/I Wanted That Mask or just people lurking aboot)

OK. So, to start, I was thinking that we should set up some sort of set order for the draft (after KMD of course) to avoid allowing the scum to pick up all the good masks if one of the early drafters picks scum or if KMD himself is scum.

I was thinking one of these 4 would be good:

alphabetical
reverse alphabetical
numerical
reverse numerical

Any takers?

Sounds okay to me. Dice feature would my pick for ordering the draft, ordering us up via dice right now. Can't be fixed, etc. Unless there's a problem with using dice for this I don't realize, it would seem clean, clearly random, and pretty painless.

All right, I'm ready for my first Tarhalindur game since he ran a mini normal.

Kairyuu, I agree, any of those arbitrary orders seem like they're better than popcorn.

I say dice roll. Easy enough to code and almost impossible for Mafia to crack.

1) forbiddanlight
2) MafiaSSK
3) OhGodMyLife
4) Sironigous
5) DrippingGoofball
6) Vi
7) popsofctown
8) Giuseppe
9) Kairyuu
10) Jazzmyn
11) Plum
12) Cyberbob
13) ZazieR
14) Seraphim
15) zwetschenwasser
16) Pesco47

Code: Select all

[dice]1d16[/dice]

Just remove yourself from the list and make the dice down one every time a mask is chosen. For example, KMD chooses a mask and then rolls the dice. With the results, he chooses the next person. Very simple, very clean, very easy.

If that's difficult, I would say reverse alphabetical.

Seraphim's got it.
Paraphrasing a role PM takes seconds, fabricating a good fakeclaim takes an eternity.

Dice sounds good to me, except for (1) the embarrassing fact that I don't know how to do the dice thing  and (2) rule 30 in the opening post. If we can circumvent (2), can someone please explain how the dice roll thing works?

Simple.

1.Player chooses mask.
2. In same post, player rolls die.
3. In separate post, player selects next up based on result of die roll.
4. Repeat until finished.

I get that. What I don't know is (like I said, this is embarrassing), how does one roll a, for instance, 13 sided die?

Like this, but replace all instances of { or } with [ and ] respectively.

{dice}1d13{/dice}

The number before the d is for how many dice you want to roll, and the number after is for how many sides.

Hey Jazz, uh...

I don't think the dice is breaking rule 30...

He or she would just use the dice as decision for the popcorn pick.

Like this... HYPOTHETICAL

Here's a list of all the players...

1) forbiddanlight
2) MafiaSSK
3) OhGodMyLife
4) Sironigous
5) DrippingGoofball
6) Vi
7) popsofctown
8) Giuseppe
9) Kairyuu
10) Jazzmyn
11) Plum
12) Cyberbob
13) ZazieR
14) Seraphim
15) Kmd4390
16) zwetschenwasser
17) Pesco47

Since, KMD is picking now, we remove him and lower the numbers of everyone under him.

REVISED - list without KMD

1) forbiddanlight
2) MafiaSSK
3) OhGodMyLife
4) Sironigous
5) DrippingGoofball
6) Vi
7) popsofctown
8) Giuseppe
9) Kairyuu
10) Jazzmyn
11) Plum
12) Cyberbob
13) ZazieR
14) Seraphim
15) zwetschenwasser
16) Pesco47

Next, we use the code

Code: Select all

[dice]1d*[/dice]

The * is the number of people left. In this case, there is 16, so the * should be 16.

Therefore...
You would type

Code: Select all

 [dice]1d16[/dice]

With that, you'd get a result like this.
Original Roll String: 1d16
1 16-Sided Dice: (4) = 4

Why the dice is so good and unbiased - you have to post before you see the number.

OK... go to the next post.

This dice says 11, so player 11 should be the one to choose next, in this case is Plum.

Plum would choose, and the revised list would be

1) forbiddanlight
2) MafiaSSK
3) OhGodMyLife
4) Sironigous
5) DrippingGoofball
6) Vi
7) popsofctown
8) Giuseppe
9) Kairyuu
10) Jazzmyn
11) Cyberbob
12) ZazieR
13) Seraphim
14) zwetschenwasser
15) Pesco47

And it would continue on like that...

The number before the d is for how many dice you want to roll, and the number after is for how many sides.
Aha! I was playing with that "Dice" button but couldn't figure out how to make it work... thank you! I've got it now!
