Hi.

I'm Nuwen/Leigh Ann, an undergrad dabbling in the Classics and English Literature at Knox College. My school mascot is a natural disaster. I drive a yellow VW bug, jokingly given to me by mummy dearest for my last birthday. She handed me the keys and said "here, you motherfucking ray of sunshine."

I'll roughly paraphrase a toast made to me at an impromptu outdoor Passover Cedar last night, it sums up my personality very well: "Leigh Ann is a drug addict. But she's absolutely brilliant. These two qualities are no doubtingly connected; intelligence forcing social retreat forcing introspection forcing a liver transplant forcing a sex life more active than this table comb[warblewarblewarblelaughter]. We're fans, Leigh Ann. Don't kill yourself before gradua---put that cigarette out before the irony police arrive."

I'm left-handed and have never used a mechanical can opener properly. When candy kid ravers leave Never-Never Land and inevitably grow up, I am the result.

Where are you from?
  • New York, all parts of it - I was born in Albany Medical Center, grew up in the Bronx, and went to high school upstate in Rochester.
What is your best skill?
  • Marketable skill? I used to write papers at $15/page ($20/page if the expected grade was a C+ or lower). I raked in more money than most entry level pot dealers
What's your best accomplishment on MafiaScum?
What is your hobby?
  • I miss that commodity called "free time." When I had it, I made do-dad jewelry pieces out of beads, hemp, and shells. I steal props from the scene shop and place them in odd locations.
What's the most important thing in a friend?
  • Solidarity. And the ability to keep my bullshit in check.
What's the most important thing in a co-worker?
  • Never to wear an excess of flair.
Do you have any long-term project? Which one?
  • Like any aspiring writer, I have dozens of unfinished pieces laying strewn across folders and hard drives. I don't expect any of it to float.
What other internet sites do you recommend us?
Best thing about being a Mafia player?
  • I'm beginning to hear logical (and illogical) progressions in regular conversation.
Could you please tell us a joke?
  • Jewish nationality.
You have $20k and a big house. Would you host a Meet? If yes, who would you invite first?
  • Absolutely. I'd host a meet with two cents, pocket lint, and half a hovel. Adel would be my first invitation - I wonder if one of us would have to kill and cannibalize the other if we enter the same physical space. We might just dissolve into pools of matter.
How would your funeral be like?
  • I don't really care; I don't plan on being present.
Where would you travel first with $10k USD?
  • Back to the ocean. I love Knox, but I wake up every morning and feel landlocked.
Favorite...
...
alcoholic drink?

Drinking to get drunk: a home-made Skol screwdriver or cheap Canadian Whiskey from a plastic bottle.

Social drinking: Triple New Amsterdam and tonic (plain or peach) on the rocks with a ring of lime.

Beer: Honey Brown by High Falls, a brewery just outside of Rochester.

Expensive treat: Idol Vodka - distilled from Pinot grapes, served neat at about five degrees Celsius.

...
non-alcoholic drink?

Jones Soda in any flavor but Fufu Berry.
...
food?

Tiramisu.
...
musician (yes, includes composers and performers)?

Tunng.
...
movie?

The Dark Crystal.
...
actor?

Ian McKellen (watch his 80's era films, particularly Plenty and The Keep)
...
actress?

Natalie Portman.
...
mafia role?

Scum-aligned roleblocker.
...
mafia alignment?

Scum. I tend to feel more at ease if I begin a game with
some
information, resulting in more casual, less terse & tense posts from me day 1. Under any town alignment, I grow hypersensitive to
any
dissemination of information and begin to see patterns where there are none.
...
card game?

Grave Robbers from Outer Space and Euchre.
...
online activity?

Lurking. Reading. Waiting.
...
game (pen-and-paper, electronic or whatever)?

Urban manhunt, played around midnight.

does the smell of pig shit from the trains that pass by Knox bother you often?

Do the winter months (there are like nine, IIRC) in Galesburg depress the hell out of you?

When you are at the radio station do you ever get calls from that prison that is just inside of the broadcast radius? ("Do you accept this collect call from:

What kinds of techno do you still appreciate the most?

Is http://audiotisticfestival.com/ the kind of massive you would still enjoy attending?

When you get drunk to you ever quote Horace or Lucan at length in Latin?

Impossible or too-convenient fakeclaims.

I despise null tells that can be bent into scum tells based on a meta that I'm not familiar with. This site is congested with players with almost-incestuous knowledge of each other's playing nuances. I like to suspend all of my absolute tells in a vacuum: if applicable to A, it should be applicable to B. Any other tell employs meta, which I prefer to call "personal tells" rather than universal "scum tells."

I have been known to smoke a pack of 27s sometimes, but that's mostly Shea's influence. I'm a Camel filter gal. If I'm broke, I hand roll a bag of TOP.

Bacon and emotional angst, but mostly the bacon. The four flights of stairs to my dorm usually make me feel quite elderly.

About three shots of Everclear does the trick.

I don't need to put any extra talent points into forgetfulness. My short term memory is Swiss cheese. I need to work on
remembering
how and why I woke up on campus grounds with a stuffed emu and a bottle of strawberry-kiwi lube.

Clearly, I am awesome.
Jahudo wrote:What's your favorite / least favorite subject in school?

I hated my freshman preceptorial, an orientation class forced down the throats of every new matriculator at Knox. Otherwise, I get the luxury of selecting the classes I'm paying to take.

I worked at Starbucks for nine days. Abysmal. The clientele didn't irk me as much as I initially thought it would, but I had fundamental disagreements with the way Starbucks brews their coffee. Store-brewed coffee is intentionally burnt so it'll better bind with sucrose. It's maltreatment of a beautiful substance.

Smoking what? I favor vaporizers and hookahs above all else, with wet-pipes (standard bong) or iced dry pipes (gravity bong built in a tub of ice) in a close second for smoking weed. I don't enjoy tobacco in any form other than shisha, rolled cigarettes, and the occasional dipped cigarillo/cigar.

I would like to wake up and smoke in a single motion. Having to relocate outdoors for my first cigarette sours every day's start.

For awhile, I thought I was TSQ's alt. I might be a bastard lovechild.

I could be a past you, somehow transported across the space-time continuum and into the same temporal plane.
populartajo wrote:how often do you smoke, drink?
Tobacco-wise, I smoked about a pack a day until a few recent attempts to quit. I'm down to about half a pack a day. I drink heavily almost every weekend and Wednesday night (approximately 10 people at Knox have Thursday classes). I tend to pour light drinks around lunch time on rough days.
Jahudo wrote: What was your favorite / least favorite job?
Uh, whoops. I forgot about the the 'favorite' part. I currently work at Knox's computer help desk - it's the best job I've had by far. I usually get homework done and catch up on Mafia games during my shifts. If I do have work to do, I get to dismantle computers or hike around Knox campus with a shiny master key. When I did computer inventory over spring break, I spent almost all of my time exploring the roofs of each building and getting into locked-off labs. I found a large collection of stuffed animals in a taxidermy display in one of the janitor's closets. It featured a full-length barracuda, a beaver, and a few pickled turtles.

The spiraling economy must have killed the pig shit industry. I haven't smelt anything out of the ordinary.

I had two suicide attempts during my first winter term at Knox. I kid you not. This town is unfathomably grey and muted during the long winter months, but the three months of Spring andFlunk Day do more than their fair share of compensation. Flunk Day is tomorrow fersure.

The only calls Shea and I have received are from obsessive scummers requesting Freebird. We will never play Freebird. Neither of us have a show this term. Stop calling.

I wax nostalgic when I hear any type of simple hardstyle: gabber, jumpstyle, any freeform. Hardstyle dominated Montreal's (and some of upstate New York's) dance scene when I was in high school. Montreal's new transition to chic 8-bit is interesting, but it tends to attract clove-smoking nurave types. The PLUR is gone.

Yesssss. I haven't been to a large in ages; mass-organizers have been eclipsed by club renters. Nice diversity between and within each lineup. It's rare to see Chromeo and Does it Offend You, Yeah? in the same electro set, and it's almost unheard of to feature a house
and
DnB
and
electro and
hiphop
set at the same event.

I really miss underground larges, text message chains and flyers dropped from balconies.

I'm more partial to Catullus or Ovid if I spew Latin, with a smattering of Martial's epigrams tossed in for dry flavor. Attic Greek tends to be my drunk language of choice. It's more lyrical and contains naturally occurring cadence.

Yes! I entered through the maintenance door under north Post, near the bike storage. The tunnel ends in the westernmost basement of fourname (Longdon or Drew, I think). I was a little disappointed - I expected a secret network underneath the entire campus.

Yesx2! I've been linked to a lot of his early minimalistic house sets by someone else on this site (or maybe it was you?). Possibly Quag in scumchat.

Nuwen.net isn't actually my domain, it's a brainchild of an old friend (http://nuwen.net/stl.html) who is currently doing grad work at NYU with his fiance. Nuwen was a server that I IRCop'd. The server and I shared a common namesake extracted from Vernor Vinge's
A Fire Upon the Deep
.

yes. I'm horrible with names. Frank Ortner was one of my art teachers. I had the dean of something or another for freshman precept (he was an anthropology guy, lived in the Congo for years, that was an awesome class) a real prick for creative writing (he had a best seller about a young woman in Italy) and a hella cool calc professor (who turned out to be buddies with Frank). I mostly took art classes, and some poly-science classes.

I'm amazed at how little I remember.

Dean Romano? He handled my academic case and petitioned the academic board on my behalf when I withdrew from three classes simultaneously at the start of last term. Excellent guy. His wife, Vicky, was instrumental is getting me my job at the help desk. I've also been talking to her about joining Greek life and getting a local colony (ATP) nationalized; she and her husband are the campus' Greek advisers. Romano and I have had coffee while bashing FP.

Was Schneider your calc professor? My best friend dated his son.

Ortner has emeritus status now, but he still pops onto campus to do art history lessons with Steve Fineburg (my Greek professor). Those two tag-team anthro-art classes like old dogs.

The world is steadily shrinking, guys.

Depends on the part of Rochester and what your wife is doing there. If you plan on raising a family, Pittsford and the east/lower east suburbs have one of the best nationally ranked public school systems (and two awesome independent liberal arts prep schools: Harley and Allendale Columbia. I'm an Allendale alumna).

Rochester proper is a dying industrial city. Zoning issues and poor budgeting make the poor parts of Rochester
extremely
poor, while middle-class portions are very well off. The city is slowing transitioning from a long-dead industrial epicenter to a place for new urban professional types to settle down with abstract digital projects. The High Falls area is being renovated entirely - all abandoned factories are becoming loft apartments, clubs, galleries, and extensions of

Old farmland still lines most of Lake Ontario, especially on the upper west side suburbs. I lived in Greece/Hilton immediately after relocating out of the Bronx. Going from project city to a retired dairy farm was quite the changeup.

There are two fantastic colleges in Rochester - RIT and U of R. I tend to hang around RIT types, who are troped as "MIT applicants who smoke just a little too much pot." Nazareth does its part in pumping out nurses and other vocational degrees. Eastman and Hochstein are two of the best music schools in New York state. I played in Hochstein's junior symphonic orchestra in high school on scholarship.

I can give you more information about specific areas, housing prices, et cetera if you'd like.
So high, so low, so many things to know.
