SOULSHIFT MAFIA


Dark nights are suited to dark thoughts, dark deeds and darker rituals. Thanas knew this as he sat, cross-legged, in the centre of a circle inscribed in blood. His brow was knitted in concentration as he murmured the complex words of a forbidden incantation.

Slowly, Thanas loosened the ties that bound his soul to his body. This town and its insidious normality would be razed to the ground, Thanas would see to that. Here, as always, though, there was the chance they would catch him, sniff out his intent and murder him for it. If they did he was prepared. Prepared to leave behind this shell he carried himself around in for another.

After all, one body is much the same as the next.

GAME NOTES


This is not intended as a detailed explanation of the mechanics of the game, but rather as as enough of a guide so that everyone knows what's going on.

This is a 12 player game with one scum, Thanas the Soulshifter.

The Soulshifter is a normal serial killer with a bit of a twist.
  • When it dies the Soulshifter will shift, choosing another player to become a serial killer.
  • The phase (day or night) in which the Soulshifter dies will be extended by 48 hours to give them time to make there choice.
  • When the second serial killer dies the town wins.
  • Should the second serial killer win, the Soulshifter wins too.
  • The second serial killer cannot kill on the first night after their conversion as the soul adapts to its new body.
All town power roles will come in mason pairs.
  • Both players must PM the mod with their choice of action for it to go through.
  • A member of a pair can become the second serial killer, their partner will not be made aware of this should it happen.
  • Should the only surviving member of a pair also be the second serial killer their role will cease to function.
GAME RULES


I reserve the write to alter or expand the following rules... because I've probably left something out.

GENERAL
  1. The most important rule:
    This is a game, have fun!
    Being intentionally offensive, derogatory or obnoxious is forbidden. In short, enjoy the game and don't ruin the enjoyment for others.
  2. Please treat this game as a commitment and participate.
  3. Do not communicate off thread with anyone about this game unless your role PM says specifically that you may.
  4. Once you're dead, you're dead. Dead people don't post. One bah! post is allowed, 'cause, you know, ghosts and whatnot.
  5. I write in read. You do not. All other colours are fair game.

  6. Do not write in painfully small or invisible text, it only annoys people.
  7. Do not edit or delete your post, even if you have the power to do so. I will deal with formatting errors and duplicate posts on request.
  8. Everything I write in Italics is flavour text and has no bearing on the game.
  9. Do not directly quote your role PM. If you do you will be modkilled. Messily.
  10. I am human. I make mistakes. If I do, tell me. Any in-thread queries should be prefaced with

TIMING & ACTIVITY
  1. Each day will have a deadline of 4 weeks.
  2. During the last week each player may request an extension. The deadline will be extended by 24 hours for each such request. One request per player per day.
  3. Each night will last for 5 days or until all night actions are in, whichever comes first.
  4. When the Soulshifter is killed the current phase will be extended by a maximum of 48 hours while they choose the second SK. If it is day the players will still be able to post. If it is night the thread will remain locked but any night-talking roles may carry on talking.
  5. If you don't post in 72 hours you will be prodded. If you don't resume posting within 48 hours of a prod I will begin looking for a replacement.
  6. Should you need a fourth prod in a single game day I will simply skip to looking for a replacement.
  7. If I need to go get a replacement the deadline will be extended by the amount of time it takes me to find one.



VOTING & LYNCHING
  1. Votes should be in their own line and follow the format:
    Vote: [playername]
    . (Colon and capitals are optional). [playername] doesn't need to be exact, but it does need to be unequivocally recognisable as only one of the players in the game.
  2. I do not require that you
    Unvote
    when changing votes, but it would be appreciated.
  3. A lynch is achieved when there are more living players voting for a single player than are not voting for that player. ie. A simple majority.
  4. Once someone is lynched they're dead (See general rule 4). No amount of unvoting will save them. The rest of the town is free to post until I lock the thread.
  5. If no one has enough votes to be lynched when the deadline is reached there will be NO LYNCH. I'm not lynching people for you, that's your job.
  6. You may, if you so desire, vote for there to be no lynch by making an ordinary vote with [playername] replaced by

Also, question: If a power role dies, will the role still function via the other member? ie does it require both people to work?

I would suggest that random voting is not going to gain us anything in a game like this because only masons have extra information. I'd argue the masons should mass claim. Let's narrow our focus while we can.

I know this risks them being nk'd but I think two factors will prevent this.
1) Power roles are robust - it takes two kills to stop them working.
2) An unknown mason pair could prove very dangerous after the shift.
3) Killing the soulshifter as fast as possible maximizes our chances of winning.

This is an absolutely horrible idea. The masons can claim if they're going to be lynched. There's no reason to claim them early; it messes up reactions and gives the scum info on who to kill.
