RULES OF PLAY

Game Setup

1. Players join by
/in
. After 48 hours of joining, the Moderator will randomly select 7 players.
2. The Moderator will randomize a 52-card deck (no joker).
3. Seven cards will be dealt and PMed to each player.
4. The first player will be the Dealer.

How to Play

The cards in the deck are worth their face value, with Jacks being 11 points, Queens 12, and Kings 13. Aces are low (1 point) except when used as Fielding cards, in which case they are worth 15. Deuces are also high in Fielding, and are then worth 14 points.

Play will consist of several rounds, or "tricks," each of which involves a pitch, a swing, and a catch. Each complete set of tricks is called an "inning." After the inning is over, the deal passes to the next player, and the game ends when each player was the Dealer for one inning.

Pitching

The trick begins with a Pitch. The Dealer pitches the first trick of each Inning, and subsequent pitches are thrown by whoever wound up with the last ball. The Pitcher plays one card from his hand. This card is the "ball."

Hitting

Starting with the player after the Pitcher, everyone but the Pitcher gets one chance to swing at the ball. They do this by playing a card that is equal to or lower than the value of the ball, but higher than any hits which have been played so far. For example, if the ball was a 7, and a 4 has been played, the only legal remaining swings are 5, 6, and 7. Taking a Swing is always optional, even if you have the card.

The closest swing, without going over, hits the ball. The ball is on the Hitter, and all of the Hit cards used are discarded. If the ball is never hit, it is a "Strike." In this case, the Pitcher keeps the ball for points, and pitches again immediately.

Important Rule:
If a player ever throws three strikes in a row, he wins the game!

Fielding

Once a ball has been hit, every player except the hitter gets one chance to catch the ball, starting with the player after the hitter's. Like swinging, Fielding is always optional.

To catch the ball, you must play the highest card, in much the same way as you did while hitting. The only difference is that, in fielding, higher is always better. The first fielding card must be equal to or higher than the value of the ball, and subsequent cards must be higher than the last catch played.

Note:
In Fielding, and only in Fielding, the Ace and 2 may be played as 15 and 14 points respectively.

If no one catches a ball that was hit, then the Hitter keeps the ball, and makes the next pitch. If the ball is caught, then the fielder keeps the ball, and throws the next pitch.

Ending the Inning

The inning continues until only one player has any cards left. In other words, when the next-to-last player plays his last card, this will be the last round of the inning. Every ball is now worth its base value in points. Scores are recorded and the deck is randomized for the next inning.

If the Pitch ever comes to a player who has no cards, it simply passes to the next player.

Note:
You will notice right away that there's not much incentive to swing at a ball. You will only do so to prevent the pitcher from getting another strike, or if you're taking a chance that no one will bother to catch it.

MODERATOR RULES

1) Although not requried, all moves should be bolded. At the least, your move should be obvious.
2) If players wish to table talk, it is invited at all times by all players.
3) Feel free to ask questions. Either PM me or precede the questions with "Mod".
4)
Dark Red
text is reserved for the Moderator.
5) Invisible or small text is allowed, but only minimally.
6) Your cards will be PMed to you. Each PM will give the seven cards that compromise your hand.
7) With each turn (and in the first post), I will announce whose turn it is, the status of that player, and their available plays. These plays will not be customized based on the player's cards, but a general list of plays the player may use. If an incorrect play is made, I will announce it and allow the player to play again. This does not extend the deadline.
8) Each player will have 2 days from my update to move. If a move is not made, the turn will be "passed". I will try to find a replacement for a player that deadlines 3 times in a row, but the game will not stall while waiting.
9) A standard deck of cards will be used to determine card order.
10) For any random information, random.org or the dice generator will be used.
11) If you are comfortable in the rules of the game and know that your turn is next, feel free to make the turn prior to my update. Remember, however, that if you do not realize the game status has changed, you may miss out on a better play.
12) If you see an error, please point it out as soon as possible.

Also, for people that think we're full with one more /in: We're not.

To play fair, I allow 48 hours for anyone to /in that wants to play. At the end of 48 hours, I will take the list of all the people that are /in and randomly select 7 using random.org. These 7 will play the game.

I realized I made in error in almightybob's possible moves. He has the chance to pass (not hit at all).

With that said, I will give him a chance to play his hand differently if he wishes. His time has been reset due to it being my error.
