What effects do avatars have on you?

ITT we post what effect the above player's avatars had or would have on you in a game where you were: a. town, b. scum, c. doctor, d. cop, e. tracker, and f. watcher.

a. Hmm..in the one game I was in with you where I was town, I can't honestly say exactly what extent your avatar had in my perception of you. I will say that I was not suspicious of you at all until you attacked me.
b. It's a power role. Night kill, ahoy!
c. Worth Protecting, obviously
d. The halo means you are clearly innocent, and should not be investigated!
e. Although I might be interested in seeing what you are up to, nonetheless
f. Worth Watching.

I don't think Goat's avatar would have any significant effect on my impression of him. At least not one that I can immediately identify.

I have however experienced other avatars to have affected my opinion on the players bearing them. And I have had people in many game comment that my avatar had an effect on them (usually they said that it was scary.)

Personally, I completely ignore avatars after the first-page randomness, no matter what my role.
I just find them really handy to identify whoever's posting by their avatar (Or lack of).

Claus's avatar creeps me out. It makes him seem less trustworthy.

I tend to view people with avatars with lots of motion, like mole, newer, so at the same time weaker. This is just from the fact that most people who have played for a while tend to know that avatars with lots of motion tend to be annoying, combine that with the fact that on average a new player is weaker then an experianced one, and motion avatars come off as weak players to me.

Xyl just confuses me with his, maybe given that I have no idea what show the pictures come from. When players confuse me in game, I tend to trust them less as at times I have used OTT information saturation, or purposful poor wording as a way to look town as scum. So I would assume that subconciously any type of avatar that is confusing would give me a little of the same reaction, even though it would be much harder to prove then my reaction to moving avatars.

I'm sort of in the same boat as Llama as far as judging someone's experience goes; if I see someone with an avatar that strikes me as childish I'm more likely to read them as slightly more inexperienced than I might otherwise. I tend not to go any further into it than that, though.

Llama's looks shifty on the surface, but something about it also suggests confidence in his ability. The darkness of the colours, maybe?

Llama's avatar has an opposite effect for me. I loved "The emperor's new groove", and his initial avatar (and to an extent this one), made me feel more agreeable to him ("this guy has a cool avatar, he must be a fun and reasonable person"). I don't know if it helped, or was helped by the fact that I liked his playstyle.

Cyberbob's and adel's avatars do not influence me that much. Cyberbob because I've known him for a while, and adel because I read her posts a lot. I guess the influence of avatars diminish with time.

I'm a bit surprised that my avatar makes me untrustworthy. This is interesting. The fun thing about Xyl's avatar is that it stays in one picture for just long enough that I register that one picture as static. In my last game with him, it had the effect that I would read two of his posts, and in my head they would be from two different people until I re-read them again carefully.

In other news, I find this topic fascinating.

Same.

I think Llama's current avatar is good. It gives off the impression of confidence.

Claus's avatar seems like it would be a good source for a random vote. (Vote Claus. Your avatar is scary as hell, hence I have proven without a doubt you are scum...). I don't know how it would affect me at later stages of the game.

If anything, Goats would make me listen to him more. It looks like a smart avatar. It also looks pretty cool.

a magic the gathering card, goat?

Avy's sometimes effect me effect me. They can tell me if someone is male or female should the gender thing be off. in rare cases I get opinions or think people's avy fits them. I got a impression Xtoxm is a young kid in his teens. I got a feeling Shaft.ed is a burly old guy and so is goat revolt. Llama fluff also makes me think of a younger kid because of his disney lion. Adel is a strong women. DGB is spontaneous and crazy. Korlash is a vanilla or a miller always with how I get mixed reads on him. Roflcopter is a bunny with fierce spunk. CES is nibbler. guardian is a cat

I probably trust people more whose avatars I recognize, such as Cyberbob's.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads-up anyway, I'll change it to a static one. :P
Whilst I'm certainly not new to the site (Been here since late 2006), I haven't played much - and I only recently switched to this avatar.

My avy was made by vis maior in Brandi's art thread. He kicks ass for hooking me up with it. It suit my name and self very well

Claus looks like he should have starred in the funny good film Bad Santa. Molestar's avy reminds me of tajo's avy with a different pearl/gem and a town sign

Pearl / Jem?
It's a mole.

But if it's like someone else's, I'll change it again.

And I imagine this avvy might shape people's responses to me in a game. It isn't meant to be serious though.

It doesn't really look too similar to me, I'll probably keep this.
I can kind of see where you're coming from, though.

Thanks for the heads-up anyway.

Anyway, I'll try to stop derailing the thread.
The only avatar in this thread so far that might have a chance of influencing me would be Claus', and only for a joke Day 1 vote because it looks evil.

EDIT:

I'm vaguely curious what effect people think my avatar has on others.
I replaced into Chess Mafia for 6 months, and all I got was a win and this lousy sig.
