I don't remember that being there, but it clearly is now.Brutal Assassin wrote:The official rules page says that you may bid from your starting 100 energy.
Here is what I'll do. I'll come up with a random order for the items StD voted on. I'll take the bids in order throwing out new ones if it would make the total bids greater than 100. After that I'll reassign the powers that he didn't win based on the already submitted bids.
I don't have time now, I'll do this tonight.-

I've always interpreted it to mean that your bid, if successful, comes out of your energy; not that you can't overbid. More interesting this way, because you are able to make higher bids, but with the risk of successfully bidding so much that you can't win.
Either way, I don't think it's at all fair to StD to randomly throw out bids. Overbidding did occur in the first two games (at least, I didn't check the others).-

7 out of 8 of us interpreted the same way and didn't bid over 100....I really think that is the way it is supposed to be.
Don't mean to complain, but hell, he got 5 powers because he did it that way lol. The rest of us got 1 or 2.Looking at all the chosen Powers, each Hero may bid an amount of Energy(from their initial 100)for each. These bids are made in secret, then revealed simultaneously - the highest bidder for each Power gets that Power and loses Energy equal to their bid for it (losing bidders get to keep their Energy). The highest bid for a Power is known as that Power's Power Strength, and is a general measure of its potency.-

He got 5 powers, but he also only has 18 energy.
That's not necessarily true; some of the others may have just been playing it safe. (And, as I said, other players and mods have interpreted it in favor of overbidding in earlier games). Irrelevant though; my main point is that if there is an alternative interpretation, it is unfair to punish someone for using that interpretation. Even if you disagree with my interpretation, the only fair thing to do is go back and rebid (if not start over entirely; the bids will be affected by everyone knowing what was bid the first time, but at least this isn't unfair on any single player).7 out of 8 of us interpreted the same way and didn't bid over 100....I really think that is the way it is supposed to be.
And I read the part you quoted. Here's how I would place the emphasis:
If I bid 99 on each of two powers, I am bidding an amount from my original 100 for each; that those amounts overlap is irrelevant.Looking at all the chosen Powers, each Hero maybid(an amount of Energy from their initial 100)for each. These bids are made in secret, then revealed simultaneously - the highest bidder for each Power gets that Power and loses Energy equal to their bid for it (losing bidders get to keep their Energy). The highest bid for a Power is known as that Power's Power Strength, and is a general measure of its potency.-

Yeah, I can see how it can be interpreted both ways. But to have it even possible to kill yourself in the bidding stage is silly. I could say "Such and such makes you INVINCIBLE FOREVER!!!!!" and then bit 10000000000000000 energy on it. Or perhaps a 5 piece set, in which owning all 5 makes you live even if you have 0 health, bidding 99 on each (To fit what you're saying)-

No, it's not; it adds to the game, IMO. See above. But to have it even possible to kill yourself in the bidding stage is silly.
Flavorwise, it's like getting too much power and burning out or something.
I disagree with those particular examples (you would be dead before you were able to use the first, and you only submit two powers for the second), but even if you were able to submit a power such that a player could submit too much and not lose, why would you? The goal in submitting powers is not to submit the most powerful thing you can think of anyway, because there's no guarantee you'll get it; it's to submit interesting powers that hopefully other players with overvalue or undervalue. It's a game, and what's the fun in breaking it like that?I could say "Such and such makes you INVINCIBLE FOREVER!!!!!" and then bit 10000000000000000 energy on it. Or perhaps a 5 piece set, in which owning all 5 makes you live even if you have 0 health, bidding 99 on each (To fit what you're saying)
I'd agree that it's silly if there were any incentive for a player to deliberately break the game; but there's not.
Anyway, the same thing could happen with your intrepretation: if there was a power where whoever got it won, even with 0 energy, everyone would just bid 100 on it.-

I don't think we should change StD's powers. We haven't done that before and I don't see why we should start now.
Neither of which happened this game, so we don't have to worry about it. If it's too much of a problem for you, we can just change the rules for the next game.Brutal Assassin wrote:I could say "Such and such makes you INVINCIBLE FOREVER!!!!!" and then bit 10000000000000000 energy on it. I'm kind of favoring mith's suggestion of just going with it as is. That was my interpretation from the beginning. I don't think that comment about "from your original energy" was in the rules page when I read it months ago. I'm at a loss of how to handle this fairly.
I don't want to be swayed completely by mith because he isn't in the game, but if someone wants to endorse what he is saying, I'll consider it more heavily.-
