I feel like the only way people are going to be able to kill other pokemon is by teaming-up, especially with such high energy things.

Well, disable stops you using a specific move in the

next

turn, so you wouldn't be able to use it in the first place. With Thunder Wave, which is essentially a same-turn disable, you'd pay the cost.
