I had read Ashiok was doing some work in the control mirror on Twitter yesterday (which is kinda where I figured it would fit) but not much else.

It's a 2/1 for 1 that can make itself bigger to be semi-relevant later in the game.

Because it reminds older players of a card that was actually good when creatures mostly sucked.

Basically? The threshold for being good at 1 mana is way lower than at 2 or 3 or w/e. You play this turn 1, turn 2 you can probably hit for 2 before your opponent can really get on the board. Even doom blade costs 2 mana. Fill your deck with enough 1 and 2 drops and you can run people over. 2 power means that it hits for a relevant amount (halves the clock compared to 1 drop) and firebreathing keeps it good if it goes longer.

The drawback is less relevant because generally your life total doesnt matter - you never end up racing them, you just end up dying if they blunt your early assault.

I just see a lot more incentive to block/kill it, because not only do they lose a creature, it hurts them too.
Opposite of Goblin Arsonist, seems to me.

you already have a big incentive to block/kill it.... not dying

its draw back is only really relevant in the mirror

They already have a strong incentive to kill it, just so that it doesn't kill them. The drawback against a lot of decks is going to be irrelevant. You probably don't want them in the mirror though.

... I don't want to talk about that deck. I faced it in the Last round and I lost to it because I was Mana Screwed. Had I not been I would have won... But he still drew with me.

Ajani seems legitimately good in this format. Its very very very hard to kill and just wins the game when it sticks around.

I was actually brainstorming something similar to that deck, but in more of a WUR Beatdown form. I really like Ajani and Boros Reckoner, so any excuse to play both of them in the same deck is way tempting.

Master of Waves would be so much better if the tokens were 1/1s...

ty ty

depending on the other results I think I can draw in, but I think it requires the paired down x-1 to win.
