I threw in gender because that was what was in the OP. I don't think the same applies to gender. I don't think humans really have the capacity to "segregate" men from women as hard as they may try. Reason for this is that if you segregate men and women, there's no way to procreate, which kinda goes against the whole premise of evolution. In post 23, Who wrote:I get that there could be some kind of attempt at an argument about race (I am NOT saying the argument is valid, I'm just saying I could believe that someone could attempt to make one and I'm too lazy to evaluate the argument), but you said that the same applies to gender. Evolution only happens when people of different genders "intermingle".* Evolution is very strongly biased in favor of intermingling with other genders. In post 21, Quick wrote:I didn't say that.In post 19, Who wrote:Evolution prevents us from intermingling with other genders? You could say we are cautiously optimistic towards other races. This goes across the board IMO. I mean, is extreme inequality/segregation a good thing? Absolutely not! But that's not what I am claiming. All I am claiming is that people have a preference for their kin, essentially.
*Or well technically there are some people who are exceptions but there aren't enough of them to continue the human race at its current population.
(trigger warning) Which do you notice first?

I'm saying it's a problem with the way we are wired, not that it is good. It's just that when it get's dogmatic (which is a countermeasure to the alternative) things get really fucked up and you end up with hitler. In post 26, Davsto wrote:

I mean to be honest, skin color is skin color. We're all God's children, so why does it matter? It's just hereditary traits that are pretty much based on how long a certain group of people spent time in the sun over the last 8000 years."Do I have permission to....refute some of the bs that Inferno just spewed out?"--TywinL

People are biased and are not rational. Why shouldn't this apply to race?In post 29, Porkens wrote:That’s not true! “Race” is a product of racism, and is not part of our “wiring” at all.-

I think this is something that I don't have enough knowledge of to say one way or another. In post 36, Porkens wrote:Of course it does. But that bias is not hardwired, but learned.-

From a biology stand point, wouldn't it make more sense for nature to prefer gene diversification rather than segregation? This is my life now

When it comes to gender, just take it from a purely biological point: Species need to reproduce in order to survive. That is at least one of multiple reasons why people notice people from the other gender more often than from the same gender, at least that's what I think we're arguing about. In post 41, Porkens wrote:While the polling shows gender is noticed more than race, no one is talking about gender.
In other words, noticing gender is probably something in our genes of reproducing as a species. It's just a known fact that people generally are more excited about ones from the other gender too. That's biological and afaik mutual too, so there's not much wrong with noticing more people of the other gender really.
What would be the case with people of a different skin color, I don't know. Although, lately I've read a book that also included slavery. When two black people came to Europe, it says in the book 'everyone was surprised to see the two black princes as they'd never seen black people before'. Which would confirm that we notice different races more often. It was also the other way round, as in, when the Europeans came to their colonies, they were also 'strangers' in company of all the black people.
I think the reason that there's a lot of anger around all of this, is because for gender, men have been more powerful than women in the past and thus women complain about being abused sexually and stuff all that, and for race, white people have been more powerful. That doesn't mean that it's NECESSARILY bad that men have certain thoughts when it comes to women, and that white people have certain thoughts about black people - afaik, it works the same way the other way. It's just that men and white people have been more powerful in the past than women and black people respectively because of what happened in the past. Now, the women and black people speak up about it because they realize that the 'other side' is more powerful. That's why there are a lot of discussions about this.
Again, doesn't mean it's NECESSARILY bad that we occasionally 'judge people by their cover'. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. It's natural and it's the way nature works that we 'notice the ones from the other side' first, not that bad.hi-
