Self-voting on page 1 makes the game about your ego rather than scumhunting. It's the most valuable page of the game and you turn it into a giant WIFOM contest; benefits only scum. This should be a policy lynch.

Hi guys!

Darn you for Newbie 1319, TAM. Are you scum again this time?

VOTE: Reek

policy lynch for self-vote is not cool. It's not standard, but reactions to self-votes can be as telling as normal RVS.

No, it causes too much theory debate and agonising over "would Bulbazak do this as town". It also doesn't even pretend to put any pressure on other players, which is the point of the vote and sorely needed early on. It gives scum the opportunity to explicitly avoid the "do I vote one of my buddies or not" decision at the start of the game, which is a BAD THING because that is a really important psychological situation which is different for scum than it is for town. It needs to be killed stone dead.

Still, why labeling it as policy lynch?

Because town do also do it sometimes "for the lols" or "for reactions, derp". Which is why scum feel that they can get away with it and why it needs to be forcibly eradicated. I don't mind whether you call it a policy lynch or just a lynch if that makes you feel better but it is a pro-scum move that should be punished with a lynch.

I'm not sure what to make of this. Some clarification would be nice.

A hydra is a slot made up of more than one player. A town block is when a group of townies vote together.

Hydras are always town. It is known. Ergo it makes sense that we should band together.

I'm really not sure what to make of your needing clarification for what is obviously and could only be a joke. But couple that with your earlier posts and I'll have to agree with my other head that you should go ahead and claim your partners. And I don't agree with reek reek rhymes with meek that you should be policy lynched for voting yourself. People do it, and it's really nothing remarkable, but I don't like that it wasn't the first thing you did. Your first post was meh in that it tried to make a joke and comment about me being a Waller. It wasn't until your next post that you voted for yourself, which makes your self vote look like a self conscious attempt to not vote someone else. Couple that with the gratuitous "discuss" and it falls flat. Seriously, doing something to get reactions and then asking for reactions is just as bad as voting for someone and in the same post admitting its just for pressure. And here I am reacting to it, so I'm probably just as lame. But then I look at your start date, and unless you're an alt, maybe all of this is a product of inexperience.

It's not as horribly anti-town as you're making it out to be. Are you one of those players that go "PL PL" over something meh like this instead of useless and/or consistently anti-town play as a whole?

^I don't understand - your post reads sort of as though you're disagreeing with the Bulba lynch, yet you vote him.

Reek, the self vote wouldn't necessarily lead to theory discussion, had you not initiated it. Regardless, I think calling for a policy lynch is excessive.

In post 44, BT wrote:My next question was going to be how you expect scum to react to a town self-vote.

Couple of things:

1.) I'd expect scum to be drawn to it in certain ways. The most obvious would be to vote in the hopes of an easy lynch. Another way would be to cast suspicion on the vote without actually voting for the person who self-voted. In fact, drawing a lot of attention to the self vote would be ideal for scum, whether they are on the wagon or not. That's why a self vote can be a good way to judge reactions.

Let's take you, for instance. Your voting habits thus far have been very opportunistic. You jumped on the first wagon available without much of a reason of your own. Then when my self vote starts garnering a lot of attention, you choose that opportunity to vote, after criticizing others' reasons for doing so. In other words, you tried to have your cake and eat it too. You can't join a wagon and distance yourself from it at the same time. It doesn't work like that.

Regardless, this was something new that I wanted to try, and I got quite a few leads from it. 4 people bit, and I believe 1-2 of those are town. Going to start with the scummiest and work my way from there, starting with BT.

2.) "A town self-vote"? Sounds like you're in the know, which you shouldn't be, unless you're scum.
