Yeah I have to agree with vonflare here and say that this event in particular doesn't strike me as a fun one and it just devalues the worth of titles in the first place.
Wow you're so good at avoiding death and killing slots that are not part of the informed minority. Wow how are you so good at playing this game.
the event appeals to the masses and those who aren't interesting enough to get one through the official channel

Titles aren't permanent from this event. If you feel strongly against the titles given from the event, you can go anti-nom them.
The point of the events afaik was to be more inclusive than exclusive and build a stronger sense of community and attract more involvement in the titling process.
"I give up on trying to read you. You're unimaginably scummy, with a dose of ultra-Town thrown in for spice."
I don't think titles should ever be about exclusivity. I don't really see them as being an issue like that. The last person to imply that was Nero Cain, but he also does not want to be in events, so ???.
For some people the right title doesn't happen to exist yet and it's fine
"Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"
"Well, I..."
"What? Nothing? You would make the prince suffer over... nothing?"
I mean, its explicitly against the rules for users to self-nom titles.
since users will get to vote on the titles at the end of the event, this event is basically just a removal of that rule for a month
why even have the rule in the first place if these 'events' are going to bypass it

The events are limited time things. If a user wants a permanent title, others have to agree with it once the event ends (in which case, you aren't really bypassing the process; the process was just done in a different order), or they go through the normal titling process. I think popsofctown has the right perspective here. (It's not like you can request a title
all year long
; it's a special privilege for a single month.)

eeeeeh
I'd prefer if people went to nominate the titles in the main title thread right after they were removed and restored them that way, rather than modifying the process in a way that I think causes some inflation with the American Idolish voting.
But like I understand some of the thinking behind events.

I don't like permanent titles being assigned outside the main thread. temporary, sure, but it strikes me as a bit annoying that someone can get a title that'll last the life of the site and people unwilling to egopost in multiple title threads won't hear a peep about it
Eight titles were granted last year, I'd be a bit surprised if this year's selfnoms are nine times as bad.

"What? Nothing? You would make the prince suffer over... nothing?"
there were a few that might be better with an explanation, but overall it seemed like the majority were pretty general and could apply to a large number of users or were name/avatar jokes
from some combination of rating last years' lower and rating this years' higher I firmly disagree.

There are rules in place to help mitigate that for precisely this reason; the events do not allow for total bypass of the restriction, but yes--I feel like having occasional partial bypasses of the rules in the title fairy thread is a good thing,
in moderation
, to offer opportunities worth exploring that would otherwise never exist.

Normally, I do announce the titles from title events in the title thread--you can blame the lack of this on me falling behind and procrastinating endlessly; the OP of the title fairy thread is hopelessly out of date and that is entirely my fault. (I'll get to it. I'm just a horrible procrastinator.)
Imo this was a very low quality event. I think the titles that had support would have benefited from further discussion from the normal process. I also think multiple of the ones with the most support seem to fall under multiple aspects of "which titles should I not nominate?" It's also been delayed from finishing for two weeks at this point.
What is that Smash Mouth banner and how do I get it?
Also, what is NM doing? Worst play I’ve ever seen.
I can't remember the last N_M post that wasn't bland, unimaginative and lame. Some shitposters are at least somewhat funny. You are the epitomy of the type of poster that nobody would miss if you were to suddenly disappear. You never add anything of value.
I'm guessing you haven't read the game and probably never will? Why even sign up to play?
