TBH! Now I'm certain you're scum.
Nitpicky, but I'm not insisting MM is Mafia; he is one of my top suspects, but I'm not certain of anything yet. Your defense is noted, though.
There are exceptions like Lloyd, who will self-vote frequently whatever their role. What I have been saying (and I have no stats on this) is that non-Lloyd players are more likely to self-vote as scum. This is just from my personal experience and from considering what motivation might be behind such a vote.
But what bothers me specifically about MM is that he claimed a motivation (to see how people react), and his follow-up doesn't appear consistent with that motivation.
Can we get some prods/replacements/cookies?-

What are you terming follow-up? One might do something to gauge a reaction but not actually post what one's thoughts on the reactions are- just a mental note of sort- not being an experienced enough player to realize that's what required....mith wrote:But what bothers me specifically about MM is that he claimed a motivation (to see how people react), and his follow-up doesn't appear consistent with that motivation.
However, usually when I see someone saying they're gauging reactions, it's a reaction to criticism-- and in those cases I see it more as a quick cover for a mis-step.
:shrug:When I hear any man talk of an unalterable law, the only effect it produces upon me is to convince me that he is an unalterable fool.-

I should have responded to this earlier, apologies for my tardiness. I will admit that I have been neglecting this game: it has pretty much ceased to ping anywhere on my 'interest' level for the last few pages, due to non-posting and no debates I am interested in.
Random voting is not scummy. Random voting when you have reasons to suspect peopleM4yhem wrote:PetroleumJelly:
1)How is random voting scummy? What does it achieve for me if I'm scum?isscummy. If you think somebody is town, you shouldn't vote for them: if you think somebody might be scum, that's where your vote ought to be. Your post detailed your suspicions, postulated a scum-group, but your vote was outside of your proposed scum-group. If you thought those three people were scum, that's where your vote should have been, instead of randomly being on mith.
If you are too afraid to 'upset' people, you will not get far in mafia. My point was that you were much too acquiescent: why did you vote him if you were going to unvote at the merest suggestion? Votes which are immediately retracted have no qualities of pressure at all. If you wanted your vote to be of any use, you should have put it elsewhere with actual reasoning.M4yhem wrote:2) It was a random vote. How long was I supposed to have kept it on?And I don't have any wish to upset mith; is that some sort of problem?
Granted. Reaching can help find scum. Reaching also helps scum lynch town. I consider this a moot point.M4yhem wrote:3)So I'm reaching. So are lot's of people. That's how we find scum, isn't it?
Teehee. You really should play with me more. I am probably one of the more indecisive players on mafia scum, but most people would never guess it since I often come across as forceful, especially to newer players.M4yhem wrote:4)I change my mind alot. This does not make me scum; it makes me indecisive. What's wrong with thinking about all the possibilities?
Fact is, you didn't have a mind to change: you said who you thought scum were, and voted mith, who was not in your proposed scum group. Since he was not in your proposed scum group, from my perspective, you did not think he was scum, which means there would be no reason for you to "change your mind" in the first place.
See my response to #1. It doesn't have to be a "good tactic for scum", but your vote was inconsistent with your own stated suspicions.M4yhem wrote:5) What's wrong with random voting on page five? Does it hurt the town in some way I'm unaware of? I had just replaced in so it was like page one to me, and I wanted to have a little fun. And I'm sick and tired of talking about it. Explain how late random voting is a good tactic for scum, and then you'll have a case against me.
Confirm Vote: M4yhem.
A few questions, hopefully this should (directly or indirectly) bring people back to the game.
Al_Ko: You have been giving your opinions on arguments lately, but not stating who you think is most likely scum. Could you please tell us who yoususpectinstead of whodon'tsuspect, possibly in the form of a vote?
LML: You have been missing for quite a while (the same can be said of me to an extent), and I am wondering if you are purposely avoiding the game at this point. What is your take on the M-M/mith debate, as well as M4yhem's entrance?
Pooks: You're making Jelly sad. Won't you come play with us? What do you think about M4yhem? Is he flailing scum, or silly townsperson? I have a hard time reading newbies, think I might need a little huggle power.
Rosso: Do you have an opinion on anybody other than me?
Tyfo: Are you still playing? It's been sixteen days since your last post, and that was a random vote during a time where we were clearly past random votes."Logic? I call that flapdoodle."-

It's an incredibly difficult task to read the difference between flailing scum and silly townsperson, especially when they're newbies and could easily just be making a plethora of newbie mistakes.
I've actually been thinking about this for quite a while and have been compiling a questionnaire designed to give us a better idea of what we're dealing with.
Of course I'd like it if M4yhem didn't get too much time to prepare his answers to this questionnaire and as a result I'd like for him to give me a time when he will definitely be able to get on and answer these questions.
I will attempt to post the questionnaire at that time and he will have a reasonable amount of time to answer them.(like 5-10 minutes?)Show"I hope one day I can openly play as wolfy as Pooky and get zero pressure for it grumble grumble."

First of all, don't expect too much from me for the rest of this week. I'm busy with college for the most part from 6 in the morning to 11 at night. So ya, I'm cutting deeply into sleeping time here.PJ wrote:Al_Ko: You have been giving your opinions on arguments lately, but not stating who you think is most likely scum. Anyways, I've been focussing a lot on M4yhem lately, I want to review any previous games he's been in before passing judgement. He really looks like terrible scum right now, but I am trying to figure out if he is just 'a silly townie.' Apparently he's new, so I don't know how many games he's played in before.
LML is questionable, but I'm leaning towards town.
Pooky I haven't heard much from. We miss you Pooky.
Mith is looking a little suspicious, but he's mostly just on my watch list for now.
CES I lean a little more towards town, but he's still on the watch list as he could easily swing the other way.
Rosso I'm finding suspicious in his actions.
I still don't feel I'm ready to place a vote, but if I did, it'd be for M4yhem. If I decided otherwise, my vote would most likely go to Rosso.AIM account: DolusDeceit [s]not al_kohaulec[/s]-

Mith- What’s wrong with TBH? Is there some taboo I’m unaware of breaking?
And I wasn’t ‘defending’ M-Mafia; I was giving you my opinions on him, and trying to work out if your case against him is worth a vote. Which I don’t think it is a present; your judgement doesn’t seem that trustworthy from my perspective.
Thoth- Any reasoning behind that vote?
PJ- Just because I’m suspicious of one set of people doesn’t mean I think other people are townies. And none of the suspisions in my intial post were solid enough for a vote. Not without having heard their reactions, anyway. As for the proposed scum group, I wasn’t that sure about it. And I really, really like to random vote.
I got his reaction, and noted it for later. That’s pretty much all I want to achieve from a *sigh* random vote.petroleumjelly wrote: Votes which are immediately retracted have no qualities of pressure at all. Pooky- I’ll probably be around at about this time tomorrow. And I know I’m new, but can I have huggles as well? Please?
Rosso- You should know how I play as town, which is exactly like this. I take back my earlier defense of you; you’re playingnothing likethe way you played in our game together. Therefore, unvote, Vote:Rosso Carne
Al_Kohaulec- I’ve finished two games on this site; both newbies. My side lost in both games. I’m currently in seven others (I think) and have just signed up to play my eighth.
You can see me as scum in mini 362. (I’ve died there but the games still going; it’s alright to mention it, right?) You can see me as town in newbie 260.-

May be lifted if it becomes more active.
At deadline, I will simply drag away the person with the most votes and kill him, because Im bloodthristy, unless no-lynch has the majority behind it.
I expect a reasonable amount of activity. In a week, try to post at least thrice.
Those who have not posted in a week will be proded
This time round, LML and Tyfo have been prodded.

Ok, thank you very much for this. It doesn't hurt at all just saying you're dead in some games, but still don't talk about it until the game ends. I'll probably look at them, but won't reference them directly (The last game I played had a claimed serial killer get lynched and turn up town, based on what he said outside of the game, you can see how that may affect the in game scenario. Also, basing stuff on that can be difficult for the reason that one may look at that's how the said player plays as town, when he was in fact scum.). I will look over some of those games when I get a chance. Thank you.M4yhem wrote:Al_Kohaulec- I’ve finished two games on this site; both newbies. My side lost in both games. 1. I'm so sorry. I do know the difference between you, really I do.
2. *Sigh* I know you know what I meant, but I'll play along anyway: "And what is the reason for your vote, Thok? Would you mind telling me?"
I also got scared by the muhahahas. When I saw the title had changed, I thought someone had been quicklynched or something.
Mod, can we have an extension; pretty please? I loved you cookies, really I did. I like them chewy. And the black bits add such a nice smoky flavour.
Al- Well how could I resist an opportunity to pimp myself? Enjoy your reading.
It's far too quiet round here. Maybe if I accuse more people, things will liven up.
LML is a lurker!
Pooky may be cuddly but he's planning to kill us in the night!
Rosso needs replacing!

Mod-I am currently voting for CES, not Pooky
My reasons are the obvious ones (he hasn't posted much, he hasn't jumped from my bandwagon onto more active bandwagons, which his normal day 1 MO). It's also got a touch of bandwagoning in it; I'd like to see something start hapening today.M4yhem wrote:2. *Sigh* I know you know what I meant, but I'll play along anyway: "And what is the reason for your vote, Thok? I also wanted to see how CES reacted to my vote (and see if he'd make any comment on it, or call it OMGUS, for example). But, you know if I have to explain all of these reasons, then I lose some of the effect of just making a vote and seeing CES's reactions. Not everything has to be a sledge hammer of "Why, why ,why???" You can slow play things and learn some info from seeing reactions.I replaced into Chess Mafia for 6 months, and all I got was a win and this lousy sig.-

Elaborate? I'm curious if you can convince me that thisM4yhem wrote:You should know how I play as town, which is exactly like this.isn'ta ridiculous statement.
How is Rosso playing differently?
Ameliaslay: It's certainly notrequiredthat he post his thoughts on the reactions. My problem is that some of his comments suggest that hedidn't have anythoughts on it. It seemed to me more like he was confused that anyone reacted at all (and later retreated to a different excuse, when one might expect the attack on him would cause him to post some "thoughts").
(And I'm *still* waiting for him to say something of substance.)
Curious to see what Pooky's put together.-

ModI'm currently voting for Rosso and not for Al_Kohaulec. *Chokes on plastic* mmm, life threatening.
Thok- Thanks. I like to know the reasons for everything; that's how I play. But your way is interesting too and I'll certainly think about it.
Mith- I doubt I can convince you of anything you don't want to be convinced of but I try; the statement means exactly what it says. When I played with Rosso before as town, I played exactly like this.
As for how he's acting differently, firstly, he's a lot quieter than he was. Secondly, he's nowhere near as aggressive at finding scum as he was, in fact he just seems to be following after the rest of you and not giving any suspicions of his own. Lastly, he reacted differently when you accused him, making excuses and sounding defensive and almost hurt in some of the things he was saying; in the other game, he reacted to attack by accusing and attacking right back.
Of course, there could be a million different reasons for his change of behaviour. It could be the fact that lots of other players are aggressively looking for scum, so he feels he doesn't need to. Or he just doesn't have enough time. I just find it slightly odd.
@Rosso- Hey! I didn't mean it personally; there's no need for that kind of talk.
unvote, Vote:Cogito Ergo Sum
