Newbie 458: (Game over)

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Tue Aug 28, 2007 11:31 am

Post by bird1111 »

Alive, bold unconfirmed:
dybeck, replacing doubleturk
MadCrawdad
zazq
curiouskarmadog
lionden_56, replacing vampcorn
Aimee
Brutal Assassin

Dead:
No one

Status: Game over, status on page 11

Rules:
0. This is a game. Have fun. Don’t let things get personal.
1. The game will start with a Day Start once all confirms are in.
2. During Day, you may vote for one player at a time. Votes must be bold or they will not be counted. Unvoting is optional.
3. Whenever a player has more than half of the people alive voting for him/her, that player will be lynched, and his or her role will be revealed, and Night will begin.
4. If discussion lags or Day goes on for too long, a deadline may be set, most likely a retractable deadline, but if I feel it is necessary it will be non-retractable. At deadline, there will always be a no lynch.
5. Do not talk outside the thread unless your role allows it.
6. If you’re dead, you get one ‘bah’ post with no game-related content.
7. If you have any question, complaint, or comment, PM me.
8. Confirm by PM.
9. Feel free to correct me if I make a mistake, but be nice about it.
10. I will try my best to get a vote count near or at the top of every page or at least every few days.
11. If you do not post for 72 hours or if a player requests I do so, I will prod you by PM, and then if you still do not post, you may be replaced or prodded again. Absences that are posted in thread, noted in your sig and/or posted in VLA are exceptions to this rule, though if I feel it is necessary, I might temporarily replace you.
12. Red is the offical mod color, no one but me may post in it.
13. I reserve the right to edit these rules as I see fit.

This game will have one of the following setups:
2 Mafia
3 Townies
1 Cop
1 Doc

2 Mafia
4 Townies
1 Cop

2 Mafia
4 Townies
1 Doc

2 Mafia
5 Townies

Roles:
Two people recieved:
You are Mafia with (XXX), each night you may disscuss the game, and also send me the name of a player. That player will die. You may disscuss during the confirmation stage. You win when the number of mafia is the same as the number of pro-town people.

Three to five people recieved:
You are a Townie, you have nothing but your vote so put it to good use. You win when all Mafia are dead.

Zero or one person recieved:
You are a Cop, each night you may send me the name of a player. I will tell you whether or not that player is innocent. You win when all the Mafia are dead.

Zero or one person recived:
You are a Doc, each night you may send me the name of a player. If the Mafia try to kill that player, they will survive instead. You win when all the Mafia are dead.

Two members of a local mafia have been taking over your small Sicillean town for a while. Most of the residents have left, but the seven of you have decided to lynch one person per day until you have lynched both of the mafia.

Day 1 begins, with 7 alive, it is 4 to lynch.

Let's get this started. Hi, I'm zazq. This is my 3rd game, and I've discovered that there are many people out there who are better at this then I am. Both games so far there has been someone who is absurdly productive and can practically remember everything that happens and which post it was in. I have a hard time just keeping who's voting for who straight... A gimmic I found last game that serves me quite well is making a "scumdar". This not only helps other people know where I stand, but also reminds me of who I am suspicious of.

Question to all you newbies: (lionden_56 and MadCrawdad) Being new to this, what shall be your tactic to scum catching.

Question to all you ICs: (we have 4? dybeck, curiouskarmadog, Aimee, Brutal Assassin) What is the point of a newbie game with so many non newbies in it?

And an example scumdar.

---===SCUMDAR===---
02% curiouskarmadog
(OMGUS!)
01% Aimee
01% Brutal Assassin
01% dybeck
01% lionden_56
01% MadCrawdad

00% zazq

[quote="zazq"]Question to all you ICs: (we have 4? dybeck, curiouskarmadog, Aimee, Brutal Assassin) What is the point of a newbie game with so many non newbies in it?[quote]

The point of all newbie games is to educate newbies. Even though the number of ICs (or similarly experienced) is very high, newbies still learn.

In my opinion, the best number of ICs to have in a game is 3, since that guarantees at least 1 IC to be pro-town.

So, overall, I wouldn't see this as a pointless game. If anything, I would see it as even more fruitful to play with more experienced players.

It also shows that even ICs fail with their quote tags.

The point of my question is to get newbies to start thinking. This same question was asked in my first game, and thinking about it long and hard has helped me tremendously. I guess I'm just passing on the good vibes. Feel free to not answer if you believe it will hamper your tactics.

1) I've not been around for a while. It's possible that the mod didn't notice my join date or title before he took me as a replacement.
2) I'm a replacement too. New players should probably experience a full game from beginning to end - replacing into a game wouldn't provide the whole experience.
3) Joining a game after a spell means reading through a whole load of pages to catch up. I guess some new players might be daunted by that. Although admittedly this game wasn't very far through and most players wouldn't have a problem with four pages of random votes :)
Eeny. Meeny. Miney. Vote.
