I've read a lot about the trainer AI being a lot better in battles and often using more complex strategies including setting up for future moves and generally being a bit tougher - is this true? I hope so, because I breezed so much through X and OR that it wasn't even funny.
I swear the odds are rigged I've been running around Brooklet Hill for like 15 minutes and haven't seen a single Dewpider and I want one of them dammit
Also doing no-Exp. Share and Set rules run after the doddles of Y and OR. This is a lot harder than anticipated, but I'm just about pulling through without grinding a significant amount.
In terms of new Pokémon, I love this generation and I really liked the last - I'm liking their strategy of creating a relatively small amount of Pokémon each generation (60-90) and concentrating on making most of them great, unlike Gen V which tried too hard to make as many new ones as possible with 156, resulting in a lot of mediocre designs.
It really works during the Totem battles, and I enjoy it then considerably.
It's kinda irritating during wild battles, but usually if I'm wild battling then I'm either trying to level up (in which case it's just exp), or I'm trying to catch a Pokémon or run through the area so clicking the "Run" option generally isn't a huge deal. So while it is just a minor irritation rather than a big huge problem with the game, it is an irritation which I find myself trying to work around.
Just gone onto the third island, turned the Exp. Share on because I was severely under-leveled. Will turn off once I get to be 1-2 levels above the natives, but they're all at 28-30 while I'm at 25-27 so yeah
Fun fact - I've done pretty well throughout that game, but the fight against the Teacher was my first slap in the face as to how this game wouldn't be a piss-easy thing like Y, even if it was the only time all my Pokémon fainted
Even if the main reason it screwed me was because I didn't have a single team member which didn't have a disadvantage against Magnemite
I believe that on the online battles and in stuff like the battle tower thing in previous games that the super big legendaries are banned, but that's about it.
It's always seemed odd that they've seemed to downgrade it
Emerald had like 7 or 8 different games, D/P just had the one Tower but Platinum had 5 different ones iirc, Black/White just had the Subway and now it's been removed completely it seems. Shame.
After the last two gens, the design of the E4 rooms was really disappointing tbh, totally out of line with how pretty the rest of the game has been
Like, B/W had those nicely themed rooms where you get gradually taken to the battle, X/Y had those pretty rooms where fire or water or whatever rains down, ORAS had rather dull rooms but a nice bridge leading towards the room
And then this just has rooms with coloured rocks and dull holograms surrounding a ring

Like your response would make sense if I'd gone "The E4 were awful in every way compared to last gen because the rooms were crap"
But all I said was "the room design was disappointing compared to both previous gens and the rest of the game's appearance"
All other factors of the E4 and league are great, and I in no way knocked them or implied that the disappointing design ruined the experience in any way so idk what the deal with your response was
Other than the real subjectivity of that, I think it's pretty odd to deny that they are definitely at least underwhelming compared to the room design from BW and XY.
Is it just me or is Tapu Fini hard as hell to catch?
Misty Terrain preventing status for first five turns, followed by Aqua Ring healing each turn (plus the classic legendary low catch rate) is just the worst
I keep my Master Balls for something which I can't afford not to catch like a shiny, not something that's difficult to catch but I can reset however many times until I manage it.
Yeah, I've only blacked out twice, and that was at the Teacher because I wasn't prepared to fight a Magnemite, and post-game with that battle with Anabel to start catching the Ultra Beasts because fuck me I wasn't expected level 61 Pokémon and my team was underleveled for the League (53-ish) and I went there straight afterwards and got absolutely slaughtered.
On the other hand, they weren't easy fights and I was regularly losing Pokémon during the tougher battles (Totems, Kahunas and League) and getting those "fuck me I only just made it" moments all the time, unlike Y where I rarely had a Pokémon faint the entire game, and then the Elite Four had the nerve to not even level up or gain Pokémon during the rematches.
Got my first shiny! Was Ditto-hunting (aim is to get one Ditto of each nature to make breeding for natures infinitely quicker through Everstone use), randomly got a shiny Fearow. With Jolly (+Spd -Sp Atk) nature too!
Gen I is impressive in terms of the scale of the game for such a tiny cartridge - it was an amazing feat of efficiency and compression to fit all that they did onto it.
As a game, it's a good game, but incredibly glitchy and unbalanced (which is why people who played it as a kid but not as much recently love it - you don't notice that when you're a child). I admire its legacy, but as an actual game, gen I is the worst.
Also, was B2W2 much better than BW? Because I'm trying to figure why I hold 5 so much lower than everyone else (I never got B2W2 because I have limited money and BW I didn't enjoy a huge amount)
It does seem like they designed a Fire/Fighting but remembered everyone was sick of Fire/Fighting so just used the exact same Pokémon but made it dark.
had a cycle in their secondary typings (fighting/dark/psychic, ghost/fairy/dark), and I neither expect nor want the main typings to be anything other than grass/fire/water. No particular reason, it's just a nice tradition.
I know you can't breed Ditto but if anyone happens to have a Ditto with a Rash or Relaxed nature I would really appreciate it because I have a Ditto with every other useful nature apart from those two and yet since I reached that point I haven't found a single Ditto of those natures in the last 30 Ditto.
You can get a second Cosmog by visiting the Altar of the Sunne/Moone with your version's main legendary, travelling through the wormhole and then going to the thing on the Lake of the Moone/Sunne with it still in your party. Level it up and then trade it to someone with the other game so they can evolve it, and then trade it back.
Pretty much covers everything (I think the only missed detail is that in SuMo the "daycare" is the Nursery on Paniola Ranch).
Also, there's a really good spot for running around for breeding - just in front of the nursery there's an enclosed area with a bunch of bales of hay and a gap in the wooden fence. Walk into that area and summon Tauros, and you can just run around in circles so you can see as soon as a new egg is in the nursery.
I'm breeding for competitive with semi-comprehensive boosts (best nature possible and will fully EV train, but for IVs I'm not going for perfect, just a quite strong set) and mostly got each Pokémon done within about 10 minutes thanks to my Ditto selection plus Everstones making breeding for natures wonderfully quick
But fuck me was getting a strong Salandit an absolute pain in the ass because I swear every single time I finally got a female it seemed to have really crap IVs
Ooh, just curious, I know the first time I got a dish (I think it was the ninja dish or something) in the Sushi High Roller on one of the islands I got 4 heart scales and it cost just P4000, much quicker and easier than stealing them from wild Luvdisc. Is that a thing that happens each time, or was that just a first time bonus?
Anyone got any good locations to defence EV train? I can't find a single one which isn't infuriating in some way. Right now making do with Roggenrola in Ten Carat Hill even though the Sturdy ability is a pain, because Torkoal have burns and Geodude keep self-destructing and Sandygast keep sand tombing and ech
Isn't that really slow? I can generally get a stat fully EV trained in about 10 minutes through battles
I did find a solution - I have been using the power items for the EVs and I realised that I was getting most of the actual EVs from them, so I just had it hold that EV item while the battles were against the Pokémon which boosted the EVs of the other stat for the Pokémon.
Do shiny Pokémon automatically have one max IV? The Fearow I caught a week or so ago had a maxed attack IV, and I just caught a Zubat with max Sp. Def, so I don't think it's coincidence.
There's 18 including events and Cosmog/Cosmoem, and there seems like even more than usual as they are really bunched together at the end whereas usually they're at least spread out a little during the main story
I think that's around the same number as Gen IV? Let me count
Gen I - 5
Gen II - 6
Gen III - 10
Gen IV - 13/14 (depending whether or not you include Phione)
Gen V - 13
Gen VI - 6
