Mini 536: Heroes Smalltown. Game Over!

"What's going on? Is she safe?"

"There's not much we know, Mohinder" said the man in in the horn-rimmed glasses, "but the one thing I know is - Claire's safe. What I don't know, however, is what she's safe
from.
"

The gathering looked around somberly. Far from allies, they'd had to put their differences aside when they realised what a dead Candice (minus half her skull) meant. Everyone had their own agenda - be it loyalty, ambition, or just a naive desire to save the world - but all of that was secondary to dealing with the threat that was no doubt among them.

Or should that be threats? Sylar wasn't the only danger. The bullet in Nikki's head was evidence of something sinister, and disturbingly traditional, going on. Even the Primatech representatives were talking about shadowy organisations and conspiracies, as if life wasn't complicated enough.

Well then. No two ways about it, this can only end one way.

Violence.

Which is good for ratings.

PREGAME RULES:

[1] Pregame is defined as the period of time up to the point where all roles are drafted and the thread is locked.
[2] The pregame draft phase consists of each player drafting a role from the predetermined role list in turn until each player has a role. To draft, you post in the thread and state which role you would like. No player may draft a role that has previously been drafted, i.e. duplicates are not permitted. Please note there are more roles than players so at no point will any player be left without a choice about their role.
[3] No player may draft a role until all players prior to them on the role draft list have drafted their roles. There is one exception to this: if it is the turn of the player prior to them to draft, and 12 hours have passed since the previous draft, then in the interests of alacrity that player may "jump the queue". This may only be done by the player immediately after the active player on the draft list. After this point the draft continues as normal other than that the "jumped" player may draft a role at any time.
[4] Once all players have drafted a role, alignments will be distributed.
No player will be aware of their alignment prior to choosing their role.
At this point the pregame will be over and the game will start (in day).
[5] If you wish to discuss strategy during the pregame phase, I have no problems with that.

GAME RULES (please note these apply only once roles are drafted):

how to play:

[1] day lasts until one of the following happens: a player has a majority of votes, no lynch has a majority of votes, or a deadline comes. days have an automatic two week deadline. this is not revokable under any circumstances including the need to find replacements. please note that the deadline is a limit, not a target.
[2] voting is required to be in the format
vote: Seol
. the bolding is important, i make no guarantees i even read unbolded comments. quoting votes is not voting.
[3] once a player or no lynch hits a majority, it is twilight. no amount of unvoting will make any difference. you may continue to talk until i lock the thread. once I have locked the thread, you may not post - even if you have mod privileges.
[4] if deadline passes and more votes are made before i post, those votes will be counted (unless lynch majority is passed in the interim). there will be no twilight - the game will go straight to night when I return.
[5] it is not necessary to unvote, unless you wish to be voting for nobody. you're welcome to do so if you choose.
[6] once I have locked the thread, it is night. at this point, if your role allows it, you may talk to people via PM or any discussion groups i may have set up for your benefit. i will declare the deadline for night-choice submissions when i lock the thread, this will generally be of the order of 48 hours. if you do not declare your night-choice, i will choose it for you. i make no guarantees that you would like my choice. please submit night-choices.
[7] day will restart as soon after deadline as i am available, or earlier if i have received all choices.

what is considered "bad" and should not be done:

[8] do not quote anything about to the game from outside the thread. that includes PMs or parts of PMS from me, PMs from people you can talk to at night, or random observations third parties make in general discussion.
[9] do not talk about this game outside the game, unless your role permits. if your role permits, you may only talk when it is night.
[10] do not be mean. it's not nice. be civil while killing each other, or i'll get cross. just because you're bad doesn't mean you have to act like it.
[11] do not edit your posts. at all.
[12] if you're not going to be available for more than 48 hours, let me know. if you're not going to be available for more than a week, i reserve the right to find a replacement.
[13] i am of the opinion that lurking is something the town should regulate. i will prod only when requested and replace only when people have failed to respond to prods. fyi, when i prod i allow 48 hours for a response.
[14] once you're dead, you're dead. you may not talk. not even a "bah!" post.

ROLES: (Grey roles have not been chosen for this game)

Peter Petrelli, Role Absorber (Adele)
Whenever you are targeted by a Power, you will gain that Power and will be able to use it on subsequent nights. I will inform you of what powers you have gained as the following day starts. Each night, you can use one power which you have learned.

Nathan Petrelli, Motivator. (shatf.ed)
You can fly, which means you can get from A to B very quickly. You can carry someone whilst you fly, which means you can help someone else get to two places in a given night. Each night, you may target a player, and they will be able to use their Power twice on that night.

HRG, Jailkeeper (curiouskarmadog)
You might not have a Power, but that doesn't mean you can't do anything. The rooms below can keep someone locked up for a night. For their own good, of course - protective custody. Each nigt you can target a player, and they will be both untargetable by other players' actions and unable to use any abilities that night (note: does not restrict players from using day abilities the following day. One-shot or sacrificial abilities are not used up).

The Haitian - Dampener (DrippingGoofball, replacing JDodge)
You're a walking field of pure, distilled anti-consequences-of-evolution. You can repress the gene that lets people fly, bend time or turn invisible just by being there. As such, you can't be targetted by Powers. Furthermore, each night you can target a player and escort them, which will make them both immune to being targetted by Powers for the night and incapable of using their own Power. Note that this damps Peter's ability to learn abilities, so Peter cannot learn it, but Sylar can gain it.

Ted Sprague, Walking Bomb (mathcam)
You're radioactive, man. You're a loose cannon and you know it. You've finally got your power under control, but you've also got a bit of an explosive temper. At any point during the game - day or night - you may go nuclear, target a player and kill them in the blast. Only downside is that this will also kill you.

Hiro, Timebender
You have control over the realms of time and space. Sort of. Well, you can influence them, but you're kind of... unreliable at best. It's still really impressive though! Seriously. You have two abilities - a one-shot nightskip and a one-shot dayskip. The dayskip is a nightchoice, and will result in the night it is used on being followed immediately by another night with no day in between. The nightskip is a day choice (I must be PM'd with a request to use this prior to posting the lynch scene) which will result in the day being followed immediately by another day with no night in between. Each of these abilities can be used only once during the game.

Ando, Enthusiastic Sidekick (Cogito Ergo Sum, replacing Thestatusquo)
You're Ando, the Luigi to Hiro's Mario! And you're not particularly good at anything! Yay! You have no abilities whatsoever.

Mohinder Suresh - Networker (Cicero, replacing Zindaras)
You've been following up your late father's research, and whilst you don't have anything solid yet, you do have an irrepressible urge to discuss it with people. Each night you may target a player and invite them for discussion. From that point onwards, they will be able to talk to you at night (but not to each other).

Eden - Subliminal Influencer (Oman)
You've got a seductive glance and hypnotic genes. You can make anyone do anything you want - within reason. Each night, you may target a player and name another player. If the player you targetted chose to use a Power, they will use that Power on the named player instead. You cannot make a player target themselves.

Matt Parkman - Tracker (ZONEACE)
You can read minds. Well, you can hear thoughts - bits of them, fractured and incomprehensible. You can't get at all the details but you can certainly get something. Each night you can target a player, and you should be able to at least make out who, if anyone, they are targetting that night. Note - if you target Sylar, you will get there too late to pick up anything about the kill, and only hear about who, if anyone, he targetted with his regular ability.

Claude - Watcher (YvonneSeer)
You're invisible, when you want to be. A useful skill. The things people do when they don't think anyone's watching are the sort of things that you need to know, so it's definitely come in handy once or twice. Each night you can target a player and just, you know, hang around them a bit. You should be able to see who comes to visit them, even if you don't get a decent look at what they're doing.

DL Hawkins - Insubstantiator (Gorgon)
You can phase out. Or become spectral. Or do something, but whatever it is, it allows you to walk through walls. Which means when you want to not be somewhere, you can not be there. At night, you may choose to not be there - this will mean you cannot be targetted by any abilities. However, you can't do this indefinitely - if you phase out one night, you cannot phase out the following night.

Linderman - Doctor (The Fonz, replacing davidangelsummers)
You have a unique gift, a healing touch. You can undo all sorts of harm by the merest laying on of hands. With all the carnage going on around, this will surely be of invaluable assistance. Each night, you may target a player other than yourself, and if they have suffered a fatal injury, you can return them back to the land of the living. That is, as long as there's something to return - the damage that Sylar does to a corpse is too great for your ability to undo.

Micah - Doublevoter
You have a knack for technology. You can make computers do things they weren't meant to do. Which is particularly useful when computers are being used to track who's next to be executed via this bizarre mob rule. Each day, once per day only, you may PM me with an additional vote. Please note that once cast, this additional vote may not be altered or revoked.

ALIGNMENTS:

Town (8): You are Town. You win when there is nobody alive who is not Town and at least one Town player is left alive, even if you are dead.

Mafia (3): You are Mafia with X and Y. You may talk with them during night and night only. Each night one of you (and only one of you) may target a player and kill them. If you do, you may not use any other night or day choice your role would normally allow you to use until the following night. You win when there is nobody alive who is not Mafia and at least one Mafia player is left alive, even if you are dead.

SK (1): Despite appearances, you are Sylar. You've already eaten the brains of Candice and [X], and now you've assumed the form of [X]. Each night you may target a player and kill them and eat their brains. Doing so will mean you gain their Powers1. Furthermore, each night cycle you can use one of your abilities as well - either that of [X] or any abilites you have gained through your kills. Note that using a nightchoice (other than your kill, which is separate) will leave you unable to use any daychoices the following day.

NOTE RE: POWERS

Various roles refer to Powers. Not all night choices are Powers - specifically, the Mafia kill, Mohinder's recruit, HRG's jailkeeping and (for balance rather than flavour reasons) Sylar's kill. Certain roles interact with Powers as opposed to nightchoices - specifically, Sylar's brain-eating, Peter's absorption, Nathan's motivation, the Haitian's dampening and Eden's redirection.

So that means Sylar can't steal Mohinder's ability by killing him - however, if Mohinder (or HRG) is Sylar, then he does keep the ability (flavourwise - because the ability is dependent on them actually being Mohinder or HRG, and Sylar has already convinced the other people in the game he is them, but once it starts the dead body would be a dead giveaway it wasn't actually the real Mohinder/HRG).

Role Priority:

1) HRG's jailkeeping and DL's hiding
2) Haitian's dampening
3) Eden's redirecting
4) Nathan's motivation
5) All killing roles simultaneously
6) All other roles apart from Linderman
7) Linderman

Modus Operandi:

A lynch is described as "a lynch".
A Mafia kill is described as "shot".
A Syler/SK kill is described as "had the top of their head cut off and brains eaten".
A Ted Sprague kill is described as "killed by radiation burns".
Ted's suicide is described as "exploded".
Any action which causes a role-blocking of any sort (eg HRG, Haitian) will not notify the blocked party,
unless
that role is investigative, in which case I will deliver a "no result". I will
not
elaborate further.

Please feel free to ask questions about roles at any time, either via PM or in the thread. I will respond in the manner in which a question was asked (ie, via PM if you asked by PM, in the thread if you asked in the thread, or over Christmas dinner if you asked over Christmas dinner [realistically, the latter only applies to Adele]).

Dude, nice cast list! I'll enjoy playing with several of you a great deal!

I found this a
really
tough choice, but I'd like to go for... Peter Petrelli.

I'd be grateful if as many folk as possible target me tonight :D.

One point to make that I neglected to mention earlier - once all roles are drafted, the game will
start in Day
. Feel free to discuss picks and strategy now, but you will have an opportunity to discuss once you have your alignment before the first night.

Seol I have a few questions.

-I remember you saying that Nathan's ability will not effect Hiro, but I couldn't recall if it will give Ted a double kill. I realize this makes no sense so I'm guessing it won't. I'm guessing the people that will be effected by Nathan are: HRG, Mohinder, Eden, Matt Parkman, Claude, Linderman and any such roles absorbed/taken by Peter/Sylar.

-If Nathan targets Peter, will Peter be able to self target his motivation ability?

-If Nathan/Sylar and Peter both have the Motivating ability, can they use it to create an infinant loop of motivation or will the number of extra night actions be capped at 2?

-If Sylar kills Peter, will Sylar gain all the powers Peter has absorbed, Peter's power of absorption, or both?

-

Just want to make sure that this means if Linderman is killed his healing has no effect.

-Can Hiro still night skip if he is taken into custody by HRG?

And thanks in advance for the game. The set up looks great. Get drafting everyone!

Another Nathan question.

If Nathan targets Peter/Sylar can he only use one type of ability he has gained?
*In case you hadn't noticed I'd like to be Nathan.

Also is everyone aware that the drafting phase has begun? With the speed of sign ups, I'm surprised that there isn't more activity here.

Correct. He can't explode if he's already exploded.
I'm guessing the people that will be effected by Nathan are: HRG, Mohinder,
Not these two - Nathan motivates Powers, and their abilities aren't powers.
Eden, Matt Parkman, Claude, Linderman and any such roles absorbed/taken by Peter/Sylar.
Yep. Note that as a special case, if Eden is motivated she cannot use her second redirect targetting Nathan, for reasons of preventing logical paradoxes.
-If Nathan targets Peter, will Peter be able to self target his motivation ability?
No. Nobody can self-motivate.
-If Nathan/Sylar and Peter both have the Motivating ability, can they use it to create an infinant loop of motivation or will the number of extra night actions be capped at 2?
Again, no. It would be a waste of time anyway.
-If Sylar kills Peter, will Sylar gain all the powers Peter has absorbed, Peter's power of absorption, or both?
Just the power of absorption. Flavourwise, Sylar absorbs abilities on the genetic level, whereas Peter's absorbed powers are a form of memory. Plus, it's too easy for Sylar to "max out" if he could steal learned powers.

This is correct.
-Can Hiro still night skip if he is taken into custody by HRG?
Yes. The night skip is a day choice and stops the game going to night at all. He cannot dayskip however, as he is not released from custody until the day has already begun.

Do you mean do they have to reuse the same ability on a different target (to which the answer is no), or does a motivation only allow them one additional nightchoice which can be anything from their suite of powers (to which the answer is yes - although if it's Sylar, it can't be his kill).
Also is everyone aware that the drafting phase has begun? With the speed of sign ups, I'm surprised that there isn't more activity here.
I'll PM everyone to ensure they're aware.

You pick the role you want. It's only one role per player, I'm afraid. Otherwise things could get
awfully
confusing.

Believe me, Jdodge will help us lynch Oman, but ZONEFACE is the first bandwagon.

I'm going to pick Mohinder Suresh. Because I know how things work. You guys can pick the roles with targets on their heads, I'll survive. Because I'm a survivor. *insert cockroach here*
