Zac is fine mid for that reason. Can build light ap on him, mostly tank and he'll do a lot of damage that honestly will work well. Lots of talons wont roam

Running exhaust isn't a bad shout, try to play someone who can deal damage from range and has some kind of mobility or self peel
Lissandra is great against melee assassins and still has excellent waveclear if you max E second.
Generally, you want to stay away from long range waveclear champions (Lux, Ziggs, Viktor, Anivia, Vel'Koz, etc.) against assassins, though. They are definitely viable against them if you really know what you're doing (aka can time your situational defensive spell against them properly), but otherwise you're just begging to be snowballed on. Most other mages fare better against them.

anivia fucks assassins in the bum bum
And what do you do if you miss your Q?
You dont need to hit your q. R > E and you chunk them easily all laning phase post 6 as they try to farm in melee range.
Here are some things..
They cant all.in when they are poked low.
Anivia has strong wave clear to prevent roams
This same.wave clear provides an extremely safe laning phase with shoving and backing off to turret
An egg to prevent getting dove
And the list goes on.
Anivia counters assassins
yeah karthus destroys talon pre 6 (in fact even post 6 because by then you would've already got some form of tankiness via catalyst AND you should've gotten a lot further than him in lane early levels). for reference i've faced some of the best talons (yiguo, ryoh, scrumm) and have destroyed them all in lane.
vezokpiraka: If you are playing on EUNE we can duo.
chesskid3: I play on NA because i enjoy my freedom.
