There was a forest, with 9 trees. And sometimes these trees would fall down and become tree stumps. Can they avoid the dastardly lumberjacks?

Rules: Influenced and possibly even adjusted from people like MeMe, Dragon Phoenix, and SaveTheDragons.

[1] Each day you may try to lynch somebody. A lynch requires a total number of votes that is strictly more than half the people alive. A normal lynch is irrevocable. If necessary, I will install a deadline; a deadline lynch requires either half the number of votes of a normal lynch rounded up or 2 votes, whichever is greater. If multiple people are tied for the lead at deadline, nobody will be lynched. If there are 4 or less people alive, a full majority is required to lynch.

[2] Please bold your votes and unvotes as in

. I would appreciate it if you include the name of any person you unvote, but I do not require it. I would prefer that you unvote before voting, but I do not require it.

[3] No talking to other people outside the thread during the day. You may only talk to other people outside the thread at night if it is part of your role.

[4] Do not edit your posts. Do not use code=black tags or size=normal tags. Because jeep hacked into mafiascum's php code in order to install invistext or spoiler tags, I must remind you that you are not allowed to use invistext or spoiler tags.

[5] Do not quote the mod. Do not fakequote the mod.

[6] Once you are dead, you are dead. You may post a simple "Bah!" post, but no game related content. However, see the rules about Tree Stumps in this game.

[7] Try to be relatively civil to each other. I know you're trying to kill each other, but that's no reason to insult somebody's mother.

[8] I am the mod, but I do occasionally make mistakes. (Shock! Dismay!) If you think I have made a mistake, please send me a PM.

[9] I will try to put up a vote count each page or so. If you feel that I have gone too long without putting up a vote count, please either ask for a votecount in thread or PM me to let me know.

[10] I will not being doing activity checks. If you feel a person has gone too long without posting (say 3 days) please either PM me with a request for prods, or make a statement in thread of the form Please Prod LurkerMclurk. If a person goes two days (where a weekend counts as one day) without responding to a prod, I will replace them.

[11] I reserve the right to use any form of punishment (up to and including modkills) at my discretion. I don't plan on using this unless something strange happens.

2. I will appreciate it if any person who is attempting to become a Tree Stump sends me a PM. This is not necessary, but it would make my life easier.

3. If you want to know how something will affect you, please send me a PM.

4. We will have a day start. There will be a 48 hour pregame period for people to confirm/discuss some strategy/give mafia some time to talk outside the thread. No votes will be counted during this period.

All roles are obvious: Mafia was Quagmire, MOS, Adele.

First an apology to the Mafia about the whole Glork replacing in thing. Not for him actually joining the game as a tree stump (if I had required him to replace d3sisted , town still would have won IMHO), but for not deciding before the game started how to handle the tree stump replacement issue and then being wishy-washy about the issue in thread.

(For reference, both MOS and Adele separately sent me PM's complaining about replacing tree stumps and specifically about having Glork replace into that position.)

The game mostly went how I anticipated it would go. I didn't expect Quagmire to self destruct immediately day 1, and I didn't quite anticipate Korlash. But I suspected that Tree Stumps would hurt town as much as they helped, mainly because stumping removes the cooling down effect of night. I'll note that the most useful Tree Stump was the one who replaced into the game.

For what it's worth, part of the reason for running this game was as a Beta test. I'd suggest cross-referencing some of the set up discussion with the Open Game discussion thread.

Another relevant data point is 4-8 Nightless (of which town has won several, although both cases I know of involved fairly strong town play.)

3-9 was chosen as a halfway point between 2-10 Mountainous and 4-8 Nightless. When I made the setup I was deciding between 3-9 and 2-10; the fact that others wanted 4-8 when I discussed this made me decide towards 3-9. (I remember Shadowlurker arguing for either 4-8 or a night start, for example.)
