In theory, you should have specified your status (Newbie, SE or IC; more information can be found in the first post of this thread). In practice, since you joined the forum two days ago, the List Mod may assume that you're a Newbie.
OK thanks for explaining that. I have heard that it takes ~1-3 days to get a newbie game going and was just wondering when my first game was going to start. I haven't heard anything about the game starting even though I've seen plenty of people sign up for a game. I chose not to try and get in in as a replacement because I wanted to be able to play my first game from the beginning. I guess the next thing to ask is where the cut off point is for each game signup so I could determine how many more people we need before a game starts. I do have a question though. Does it always take this long to get into a game or is it just because this is a newbie game?

As for Newbies, it depends on how "balanced" the queues are. You've already been added by the ListMod, Mina. You'll join the second Newbie started from now. Right now there are plenty of Mods, enough SEs and ICs too. (The latter will appear on Page1 as soon as Mina updates the queues.) After that, the Mod needs to get the game, send the Role PMs, get the confirmations, etc... I think your game will be started next week.
Ok, so iirc, I cannot sign up for another game until I am finished from the first game I have signed up for. Seeing as how long it takes to get a game going, I suspect it will be a while before I am able to constantly be playing a game or two. But also I can sign up for a replacement as soon as I am finished with a game... that means I could just sign up for those until another game I want to play from the beginning opens up. After that I suppose I will have played in enough games to always have a game I am playing. How many game would people recommend I play before I get out of the newbie games? I am seeing that the natural progression is to play as newbie and then Se and then if I choose IC. I would really like to be able to play more complicated setups but I am guessing it will be a while.
Spoiler: Long answer which has nothing to do with queuing
Actually it is
not
forbidden to sign up for another game while (or even before) you're still in your first Newbie (except for another Newbie). But,
(1) do that at your own risk! Some Setups are complicated or totally unknown for the players or both. And in certain games the playerlist consists of players with a lot of experience (many players are much more experienced than eg. me!)... you may end up in terrible situations too easily.
(2) some Mods (and games) have extra requirements to join their game (eg. you need at least 3 finished games on the site if you want to join). Therefore, if you wish to join another game it's best to PM the Mod before doing so. (I did the same: while I was in my first Newbie I joined another game, but I had PMed to the Mod before joining whether I could come.)
SE and IC works in a bit different way than you think. Check out the first post of this thread! In short: After finishing
two
Newbie games you're not a Newbie anymore, you're a SE (Semi-experienced). But, for joining as a SE you need
three
played games, and one of them can't be a Newbie. (Yes, that means, you need a non-Newbie game too!)
IC is a voluntary position. For being an IC you need more games (at least 5) and you need to be on the site for at least 3 months. But, even if you fulfill these requirements, you can still join a Newbie as an SE. (Or, as always, you can join any other games.) Some players (eg. Goodmorning, Thor, Malakitty) IC a lot, others are never doing that. Being an IC is not a direct sign of being experienced and/or a good player.
Ok, thanks sooo much for letting me understand more about how this site work. It is really nice of you to share this info willingly. I will go back and reread the OP. Thanks for pointing out that I can play a game that is not a newbie game. I have played mafia on another forum before. thanks again for being so helpful.
Sorry, I wanted to review ICs before starting the next game. The next 1-2 games will be launched tonight when I get home from work and have access to a computer.
Newbie 1604 needs a replacement for MarioManiac4. This is a Newbie slot, so anyone who has completed their first game can join. Please PM me if you are interested.
Hi would love to join the game but as you stated, I cannot because I have not finished a single game yet, but this is not about your comment. I just thought I would comment on it.
What I really wanted to say is I have seen some really cool sigies and I like yours a lot too. So true, so powerful.

There's generally a longer wait to SE. However, this was actually my fault--I should have put you into an earlier game, but for some reason, your name wasn't in the queue. Sorry for the wait!
Depends on what game you are assigned to. Someone else can give you better specifics.
To get into a newbie game, all you need to do is type: "/in for newbie" and you will be added to the list of games coming up. During that time waiting for your game to start, you can read the original post for the games semi-open setup information as well as helpful links to aid your learning process. If you have questions, PM Mina.

thanks!!
I signed up, I shall wait for game start.
Alternatively, if you cannot choose to wait, there is always the option of replacing into an already started game. You will have to cancel your "/in for newbie" before you choose to play your first game as a replacement, which replacements happen frequently and open up faster than a game is started generally.
I suppose I should ask
@Mina
right now if "/in for replacement" is considered a valid approach to getting into your first game...

While you are certainly free to replace into a Newbie game for your first game, posting '/in for replacement' is not the way to do it. Newbie game mods will post here when they are publicly looking for a replacement, and any players wanting to replace in should contact that mod via PM.
I understand. Sorry to make things unnecessarily complicated. I apologize.
For the triple post, a colossal thanks to Ether for taking the initiative to redo the Newbie wiki archives.
Not only is the Newbie Game/History page completely up-to-date right now, but she went through every single completed game from 1500 onward and added role and flip information. For those of you who haven't tried combing through a game to find out what someone claimed because the mod never updated the OP past D3, doing this for a hundred games is an INCREDIBLE amount of work--there's a reason people switched to posting only the player list and outcome. She deserves a ton of appreciation.
Oiy, that does look like a gobton of work. Thanks go out to Ether and Mina for telling us!

I posted this in MD, but just letting people know that ICs may now request a confessional PT where they post thoughts about the game as it's ongong, so it can be revealed at the end for newbies to learn from it. This is completely optional.
Keep in mind that the confessional exists solely to be revealed at the end of the game. This should be a no-brainer, but you should not try to metagame the confessional for an in-game advantage, and cheap tricks like quoting the confessional or paraphrasing every single post in it to confirm yourself will get you modkilled.
This seems like an excellent idea Mina!

If you sign up now as a newbie, I just guessing here, but I'd say you'd prolly start playing in like 5 days or something.

You qualify as SE now. That means a slower Queue for you, but it also means you know enough about the game that you will (hopefully) not be making really bad newb mistakes.

It says I need one completed game outside road to rome
Hmm.. I really have no idea why they do it like that. To be qualified for SE they want you in a game that is not a beginner game I suppose. Only one thing left to do, I think you know what. I suggest you enter into a mini and a micro at the same time, then go back to Newbie if you want or if you feel ready, take on a bigger/more complex setup. Just FYI, I don't think there is anything wrong with hitting up the newbie queue for a while, but you really should see what else is out there.

Playing in more (different) setups will make you a more well rounded player. I don't really like role madness games myself, but I play them anyways because I know that it is a different kind of game that can help me with the games I
do
like. Besides, IDK how many different games you have played and you might find your niche by branching out and trying new stuff. Don't stay stagnant. In everything you have to keep moving to go forward.

There is a procedure. You have to have other games modded if you are to mod a newbie game. I suggest you head over to the normal queue and mod a game or two there before doing a newbie. I am unsure of rules for alts that have a previous account where you would be qualified to mod a newbie game. In any case, modding a newbie game is a bit like being an IC in that it is somewhat considered a service to mod a newbie game and as such, you should both have the qualifications met and have them shown if you are going to mod a newbie game.

Are you sure it's not an alt
No, I am not, which is why I said all that stuff about alts and modding a newbie game. I could be wrong; I don't know the particulars of alts modding newbie games, but I guess I just see no reason for and alt to even want to mod a newbie game since there are some stipulations to modding newbie games and it is generally known that most people who mod newbies do so with their main accounts. Perhaps I should not have said anything. I just thought if it was not known to the mod in question about the stipulations for modding newbie games that they would get an answer sooner rather than later. I do know people who might do this thinking they would be qualified without knowing the specific qualifications for this site since they would be and experienced player/modder who comes from another site(s). What I know of this site is that the meta here is not as flexible as some other sites when it comes to bending rules. This is fine as long as it is known that this is the system by which things are run here. Ofc I wouldn't want the mod in question to feel embarrassed, but I feel them knowing sooner rather than later that the system here is more set than adaptive wouldn't hurt.

FWIW, I have a feeling I know who being is and they may know who I am. I was actually thinking of a specific person when I said "some people would /in to mod a newbie without knowing the requirements" and I think this is that very person. IIRC the person in question has 15+ years experience playing Mafia. That said, if exceptions are going to be made, it should be made for this person, if it is in fact who I think it is. this will likely go unsettled since Being will likely no longer have an interest in Modding for the newbie queue once it is known that they can't do it at this time.
Anyways,

Just thinking outside the box here, and I don't know if you can do this or not, but I suppose you could try and PM the mod just as the game starts and tell them you will take a spot as replacement??? Just a weird suggestion, you will have to run this by Mina.
