Problem making accounts?

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Mon Apr 30, 2007 4:58 pm

I was telling some people on another forum to consider joining games here, and one person responded:
I would but every time I set up an account it makes it and then just doesn't work, so that is out for me
I remember there being a global announcement or something for this, but I couldn't find it; I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong place.

What should he do to activate his account?

They also have to put some text in the "note to admin" field... It says so in the registration process, but some people don't read things when they sign up.

And yes, they need to wait for activation, which I generally do several times per day and I think mith tries to do it occasionally too.

I've got a friend trying to join up, and the "note to admin" field no longer seems to be on the form. He's also getting this error.

Check Talk:Main_Page#Help for a user having problems (possibly two different users)

Actually, he says he's still having trouble. JEEP can you take a look? User says the name he's attempting to register is BigTrosk109.

I have a friend who is trying to register for MafiaScum, but he keeps getting the following error:
Could not select Administrators

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 2006 MySQL server has gone away

SELECT user_email, user_lang FROM phpbb_users WHERE user_level = 1

Line : 884

File : usercp_register.php
He said that he has tried several times and keeps getting the same error.

Help?

EDIT: Well, it seems to have worked for him now, but I'll leave this up, as the error may still be relevant. *shrug*

Thanks JEEP and Mr. Flay.

JEEP, "Atheo" is a dup.

So I just confirmed that the problem is NOT because of the code. The raw install of phpBB fails. The code from several months ago fails.

It has to be something related to either the database (unlikely, since the SQL works) or the hosting... :(

Weird, so the SQL works if you do that query itself, but doesn't work from the registration page? Are there any variables in the failed query that might be getting set weirdly?

And thanks for activating me!

The error displays the exact SQL... it's losing connection to the SQL server. We also (coincidentally) got a new interface to the control panel... and they changed the bandwidth and disk space available for our plan... I'm pretty sure they just changed something. I'll play to see if I can make it work.
