The version where the power of the town role has to live for the town to win is just horroble for the rest of the town, because you could hypothetically get a shit player in that 1 slot and utterly torpedo the town.

I think that if you make the role be a town aligned survivor- has to be alive to win, but town doesnt need it alive to win nicely sidesteps the issue. But that ends up relying rather a lot on the "play to win" rule and the "dont be a jerk" implict contract.

Giving scum x vengekills is pretty brutal though. Lets say a 9p game with 2 scum? Assume d1 mislynch then d2 correct lynch- thats 5 dead guys by d3 starting. Chances the PoT player is alive for that? Not that great, espically if he had any sort of a hand in the correct lynch.

Given this, i'd think the optimal play is as a survivor and just try and lurk the day away
