I agree that poker is harder. But, where poker has more hand options, it also has only 3 actions that can be taken. Mafia has many more actions available.

Where they become similar is in the human element. This is what is required to be
great
. We're just now getting to where a computer can read a sentence out loud with some success. (Most of them still mispronounce quite a few words). The ability to decipher the meaning of that sentence
and
the underlying subtleties is, IMO, not happening without some major breakthroughs in the field of AI.

That being said, I do think that a
good
mafia strategy is possible. Just not necessarily the
Optimal
Strategy.

A question of terms here, Mathcam: What exactly does 'rational' mean in this case? That the person plays perfectly?
