i have a confession to make: I have never played either of the Baldur's Gate games. I'm kind of in the mood for something really statsy, so I'm looking at the enhanced versions on steam.

1. Interface is incredibly important to me. I have fond memories of games I used to play that I've tried playing now and the interfaces keep me from enjoying it. Will I be annoyed at the presumably still pretty old game despite "enhancements"?
2. Do I need to play 1 to Play 2?
3. Worth my time and money?

I couldn't get into the original BG, the interface was too annoying and I couldn't get the resolution mod to work. Just go for the EE.

I guess it depends on whether or not you enjoy old games. It's worth it to try at least.

Of course if you want something REALLY statsy Daggerfall's free to download...
I'll explain it to you. You have to get someone else to understand it for you.

I really love the Baldur's Gate games; BG1 is good, but BG2 is probably the best DnD RPG ever made (whether it's 1 or 2 depends on your opinion of Planescape: Torment). The Enhanced Editions are nice, since they have the tweak pack and fix pack mods preinstalled, which makes them a lot easier to use (though if you're like me, you'll still want to adjust the game speed up). They also come with bonus NPCs and the Black Pits, which are varying degrees of alright. There's even a new modding community updating all the old stuff. I strongly recommend, if you're into DnD and can stomach the 2ed rules.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

i mean, i played Sim City 2000 a bunch back in the day, but when I tried it from GoG, I couldn't stand the interface. Just because I was okay about it back then doesn't mean I'm okay with it now.

also, i wish I could set steam to never show me (a) Early Access games or (b) blocky 8-bit games. I will never buy either. Except by accident. Because I apparently already own Monaco.

I think BG should be OK as long as you either play the Enhanced Edition or mod the original aggressively.

Also, BG2 is a much more polished product.

humblebundle isn't associated with steam afaik, so that might be why both individual companies ran a sale on it at the same time

BG2 is undoubtedly the better game, but be aware that it completely spoils the plot of BG1 in the first 5 minutes.

Yeah, there's a big WHOAA moment about 3/4 of the way through BG that is casually spoiled super early in BG2. Also, you can import your BG character into BG2. I'd only start at BG2 if you know you don't want to bother with BG.

I meant it in the sense of, don't give up if it seems kind of aimless.

I've played the Dark Alliance Baldur's gates on the PS2.

Never got into the PC games. I think my time to play them passed years ago and they just look too old and outdated now.

a) bought Fire Emblem Awakening now that I have a bigger SD card. game's fuuuuun.
b) Bravely Default is getting slightly boring (beginning of chapter 4)
c) Super Smash Bros 3DS is coming in the summer, Wii-U in the winter. also Greninja is apparently a new character. here's hoping the online isn't as shitty as Brawl so I can play with people

The Wolf Among Us Episode 3
:
Spoiler:
Okay, wow, that was fucking great. Though I will admit it feels like a cop out with the way they've misdirected us so far ("It was the Huntsman! Haha, just kidding, it was Crane! Haha, just kidding, it wasn't Crane at all!") and I'm hoping the next episode doesn't wait to give us some actual fucking answers.

But wow. I didn't visit Crane's apartment... I visited Dee/Dum's first, figured Bluebeard had already contaminated the crime scene and went to Holly's bar. I really like Holly/Gren, they're the characters I'll always try to have scenes with if possible.

Snow is getting pretty awful though. At the end I murdered the SHIT out of Dee, didn't even hesitate. Bloody Mary was amazing, I loved her character, can't wait to see more. Crane is a little shit.

Yeah if there was one drawback of the Fables books, it was they spent it all following Snow, who was the designated "straight woman" for a cast of lunatics. But they'd have been better off following the lunatics.

You're starting to sell me on buying that even though I typically hate visual novels.

yes sir it is

Okay guys, so like I said, I'm working from my office a ton more now (mostly thanks to me having my own private office now, woo-hoo!) and I get bored very easily. I want to play something that I can play a little each day and have some progress, not like a one-and-done thing. Sort of like if I could actually play an MMO at work, but I can't play any MMOs at work because the work computer I use was made ages ago. Any suggestions?
