I find it really interesting that people thought Ken Levine was doing a sendup of Tea Party people and fundamentalist Christians. This game clearly is a version of American society that embraced a Soviet-esque national religion.

I'm not really seeing all that much that's "lol this is a right wing society"

So I actually got the flagship in FTL after ages of having the game, and then the 2nd stage of it absolutely tore me apart.

Didn't help that I tried to take on that form with missiles. Drone control defense systems are the worst.

Don't have a 3DS either, so I second this question.
Games I Own That I'd Recommend

New Zelda is pretty damn good, but really short. There's a Hero mode to do and a bunch of things to find/collect and you can upgrade your weapons I guess, but it runs out of steam after that.

Pushmo is a little eShop puzzle game that is really fun and actually pretty damn challenging. I think it's like $5.

Kid Icarus is really fun once you get used to the wonky controls.

Pokemon X/Y are easily the best games in the series IMO and well worth a purchase.

Super Mario 3D Land is a damn good Mario game, although it's also a bit "short" if you want to say that. The levels are little five minute blasts so it's fun to go back through and collect all the big coin stars or try to beat your best time, but that's about it.

Animal Crossing is fun to pop in every day for about ten minutes or fifteen minutes. Kinda peaceful, really.

I picked up Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D during Black Friday and it's super good, but literally no different from the Wii version. If you haven't played the Wii version, definitely pick it up.

Games I Don't Own

Supposedly, the new Fire Emblem is fantastic. Also heard really good things about Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and also heard the multiplayer is fun. Also Shin Megami Tensei IV is out and got pretty good reviews if that kind of RPG is your thing. There are a lot of free demos you can fuck around with if you just want to try stuff out. For example, I considered purchasing Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, but I played the demo and absolutely hated it.

I've never beaten the flagship in FTL. I feel like I'm a failure.

Also... anyone here play A Link Between Worlds yet? I really liked it but damn it went by fast. I feel like it's
maybe
a ten hour game, probably more like six. No dungeon took me longer than 30-45mins to beat, and there are only ten of them.

Hero Mode has some pretty cool shit and is harder. Granted the cool shit isn't really cool until you find it but there are some differences.

I really did not enjoy this game much. It felt like galaxy without any of the parts that made galaxy interesting.
Also done with AA5 now. I liked it a lot ('')b
Don't know if I'd call it the best in the series (probably not) but it's better overall than 2 and 4 (though 2-4 still OWNS MY SOUL, just that 2-3 is not cool.)
It probably has the least weak "weakest" case of all the games in the series, if nothing else. 3-3 is the only thing I'd say is any competition in that regard.
Some changes I didn't like, some I did, but still felt like the same series to me. Maybe I'm easy to please but yeah cool game. Will get the DLC probably after school's done for the semester.

Felt a lot like SMB3 to me with the pacing and the level variety. I'll admit some of the levels felt derivative but there seemed to always be enough variety between them that each one felt like a brand new experience. The design & setting of each level was unique.

Should I play AC3? I played 1, 2, Brotherhood, (maybe) Revelations... I want to keep playing because I find the story intriguing but I heard such bad things about AC3... is there just a story summary online I could watch, or is it worth playing?

No.

Are you referring to the long-term story involving Desmond, or the story involving Connor?

Spoiler: A summary of Desmond's story:
He gets to the place where Those Who Came Before may have left a solution to the end of the world, but it's locked. He plays through Connor's story to find the key, then unlocks it and finds that there is no solution, one of TWCB was EVIL and survived the end of the world somehow and caused all of the templar-assassin fights so that you would be too busy fighting to solve the end of the world and would have no choice but to free her. Desmond is faced with a choice: A) Live while all the rest of society dies, become Jesus, and let the cycle repeat or B) Free the evil one, she saves the world, but then she's free. He chooses B and dies. Yay. Oh and some templars die in the process of getting batteries, Vidic, I think Cross, and possibly a few others. And some stuff involving Desmond and his daddy issues happens but that doesn't matter because Desmond died.

Spoiler: A summary of Connor's story:
The templars have a plan to ease tensions between England and America before a war starts but then Connor starts murdering them. Then they have a plan to end the war quickly but Connor keeps murdering them. Meanwhile George Washington goes around ordering Native American villages burned. And Connor sides with and continues to side with America because propaganda. And then we realize that the entire thing is an aesop about not having sex with random people because otherwise they might have a kid who kills you and your friends and causes a massive war.
Who said that?
Chamber. It's all a conspiracy.
Or is it?

I don't think it's possible to truly like that story.

There is nothing likable about Connor and killing off Haytham was the biggest crime of the game.

Maybe.
But Haytham still dies after finding out this cause, which he thought was the correct one, was flawed anyway due to Lee's actions. They killed his character once Connor revealed that Templars were being dicks and he realized he was being a dick but did nothing about it because...well because

But yes. Skip AC3. You can learn everything you need to learn about AC3 online.

Spoiler: From the POV of someone who liked the story
Haytham is against freedom, and wants the Templars to have complete control over the colonies/the world under a fake government headed by the man, Lee, who personally led the attack on Conner's village (and is an all around asshole). Conner tries to kill Lee, but gets attacked by Haytham. Haytham fights to the death with Conner in order to defend his conviction, same with Conner. Conner didn't want to kill his father, but he knew he had to in order to protect his people, and later, to protect the colonies. If Haytham only gave in, gave up his convictions, he would have been spared.

Which is why I liked his death speech, "Don't think I have any intention of caressing your cheek and saying I was wrong. I will not weep and wonder what might have been. I'm sure you understand. Still, I'm proud of you in a way. You have shown great conviction. Strength. Courage. All noble qualities... I should have killed you long ago."

They are both very similar, both strong, courageous, and have great conviction. The only difference is Haytham believed in order that came from a controlled society over the chaos of freedom, whereas Connor believed that everyone should be free, and that no one should have control over another.

I really like the story. It had a lot of murkiness when it comes to right and wrong, ends justifying the means and what have you. Both sides of the Revolution were wrong to the Native Americans, both sides enslaved and tried to control others. Conner and his tribe also were stuck between preemptive action to defend themselves, but not being able to withstand a counterattack (thus stuck between action and inaction). Connor was betrayed, and misled many times; but he still kept fighting for his cause, because he knew it was right. He knew he had to push forward and protect his people and everyone else who's freedom was at risk.

Holy shit good? I've been getting into the Fables comics, and if the game is good, that'd be awesome.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.
