Is vanilla at this point fully stable? If it's active again, I may give that a try - I never bothered switching from modded to vanilla before because it was dead as dicks when I left.

Are you still using most recent snapshots or are we now on most recent stable release?

EDIT: Also, what difficulty?

OP doesn't tell me if you plan to update to screenshots as new ones come out, since last I checked, 1.6.1 was the latest released version, period (although I don't follow it closely, so I could be wrong).

It also doesn't tell me the difficulty of the server.

Also, for the record, the reason why I didn't do this a few days ago is because I thought vanilla was deserted still 'cause the bots in IRC said no players. I thought one of the bots was for Vanilla. Connection to IRC is important.

I play Minecraft in full screen, so. :(

And yea, I know the mods won't work when updates occur, but in such situations I would likely just wait for a stable release with at the very least IRC capability before continuing to play. It's no fun when you can't talk to people.

I need Rob13_ to be white-listed, please.

Maestro - I don't care about cutting edge. Revert to before hunger and I'd be pretty happy, actually. :P

I understand that's not the consensus, though, and it's not a big deal if we use "cutting edge" stuff.

Maruchan - can you give us an estimate of how much it would cost to make it worth your while for your hosting company to script us an IRC coded into the server (i.e. resistant to update-changes)? I would 100% be willing to contribute to that, and it's the best fix for everyone I think (cause it gets Maru's hosting company some money too, which they totally deserve for all they've done for us over the many months)

Yes, I know. I'm asking them what dollar amount would make it worthwhile for them to provide the initial implementation of this one feature (and no future support of it), and make that implementation profitable.

Maestro - IRC will never be an easy, cheap, consistent feature unless it is put in through the server, because things get updated and if we're all for the latest and greatest snapshots, that means vanilla will be disconnected from the community for weeks (months?) at a time on a fairly consistent basis. That's a bad idea.

And I'm not asking Maru or his company to implement this for free. I'm saying, realistically, what would it cost them to implement this (paying for man-hours and everything). If that total is $1,000 realistically, I want that number (even if it's unobtainable to raise the money for). This is just to get an idea of whether it would be feasible. I don't know about you, but I would pay substantial money to be connected to the rest of the community on a vanilla server.

Hey folks. I'm introducing an FTB Unleashed server. It'll hopefully be online within the next few days, but I'm still working to get it up and running.

Disabled? What does that mean? I enabled everything. Should we be choosing between EBXL and BoP? If we need to make a choice, cast votes here people - I don't care which we go with.

As for updates, I can make this promise. I will not consider any update that would result in a world restart until a full 6 months have passed.

Recommended version of the FTB Unleashed pack. Download and launch through the FTB Launcher. Once you download, you MUST go into the mod list in the FTB launcher and enable all the mods that are disabled by default.

Again, white-list in effect, so tell me your username here (slower) or on IRC (faster) to get your name added to the list.

There doesn't appear (to my knowledge) that EBXL is in the server pack that I have. Maybe it is and it just has a weird file name, but looking in the mods and coremods directories yielded no names that look like EBXL in any way. World has been generated with BOP.

You're added izak.

We have DynMap!

Full render should be done within an hour, but expect lag/unplayable conditions until then. I did it in the middle of the day so most/all people won't be affected cause you're at school/working/etc.

You're added Rhinox.

Back-ups are being automatically performed and then manually downloaded to my computer once a week. I will also perform a manual back-up whenever any update occurs.

Whether or not we update at ALL is an issue that will be left for another day - I really don't see a need to update for minor changes, and any major changes have the potential to break the world generally, so we'll see if any update comes along that anyone thinks they HAVE to have. My goal is a stable world above all else - as stable as we can get in modded, anyway.

If we do decide to update for a non-world breaking thing, then we'll lag behind the general release of FTB Unleashed by around a month, to ensure that any immediate bugs are worked out. I can't promise no technical issues, of course - it's still modded. I'm trying to keep it as stable as possible, though.

It's probably a good idea to have a second OP on the Unleashed server. This person would not be an admin, persay, but they would be responsible for helping players as applicable. Hopefully, that will rarely happen. If this is something anyone is interested in, please PM me. If no one PMs me, I will
hold the server hostage until M agrees to stay on in the position
just go it alone, not a big deal.

There are already several people who have volunteered, Klaz/M, so don't worry about it - I wouldn't have wanted either of you as OP anyway because I know you both don't really want the position this time around.

Maestro, it is default TE - it's a very new update to the mod. And I do believe it's annoying, and I plan to take it out at the next world restart (which, again, hopefully won't be for a very, very long time).

ATTENTION: Server Downtime starts now for the upgrade to Bukkit. This requires a type of implement that only the server host has access to do, so downtime will persist until they answer my support ticket. I'm unable to bring the server back online until that time. They are incredibly fast, generally, and I hope to have the server up tomorrow morning before I go to school. Sorry for any inconvenience.

The new OP on the modded server is Blake - congratulations, etc.

Thanks to everyone who put their hat in. Considering past inabilities to get volunteers to step forward and run things, the amount of volunteers surprised me in a good way. Thanks for being awesome everyone! It was a very tough choice.

Could you give some examples? Looked mostly like bug fixes to me when I perused through, but maybe I missed stuff.

By popular demand, /afk is now available on RobCraft. Also, please note that I will close Survey #1 on Friday evening - please complete it by then if you have not already. Most people have already completed it, and I <3 you all.

Survey #1 is now closed and some of the results have been collected in the aggregate below. Big thanks to everyone who responded - we got 10 responses, which is great considering the size of the server. We do have a few follow-up questions we want to ask and proposals we want an official vote on based upon these results, so keep on the look out for the next survey, likely going up in 2-4 weeks. I'm going to try to avoid being spammy with the surveys so as to encourage people to care about them when they do come along, but feel free to give me feedback at any time by PM/IRC/whatever.

Average Ratings (1-10):

Does anyone have an age they've created that they would like designated as the official Wither-fighting age (i.e. you don't plan to use it due to [INSERT REASON HERE])? If so, please let me know.

Robcraft Survey #2 is a go: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TKXHHTS

Please note that this one is time-sensitive, because of a particular item on it that is being put to a vote. That's why it's coming so soon after the last survey. Surveys will NOT normally be this frequent. After having two so close together, don't expect another for a month, I'd say.

Currently investigating an instance of griefing/theft on the RobCraft server. In the meantime, no-one but OPs are on the whitelist. If you have any applicable info, please hop on IRC and ping me.

Over the past few days, I've put in quite a bit of time and effort to try to find whatever d-bag thought it would be a good idea to steal/grief in RobCraft. I have a pretty narrow list at this point as to who could have been involved. This is basically a list of every person who I couldn't explicitly verify as NOT able to commit the deed based on completely objective criteria. The people on the list quite frankly disappoint me. There was no-one online and able to do this except regulars - people I've known for nearly a year now, and who I would have expected much better from.

I do not enjoy doing this. I do not enjoy it at all. The only reason I'm running a server is so that people I enjoy hanging out with and myself can have fun. Being griefed is not fun, so here is my solution. If you lost anything, hit me up with item IDs and quantities and I will spawn it back in. Be generous with your quantities - if you think you lost 15-20 of something, just say 20. Fuck it, who cares. If this ever happens again, everyone on that list, minus anyone who was not online whatsoever during the window of the second instance of griefing, will be permanently banned with no appeal, regardless of who you are. There are no people on that list who I would expect this from, and I'm deeply disappointed that whoever it is felt it necessary to put myself and the rest of the server in a position where something like this had to be said.

I'm running this server because I want to allow people to have fun, and I'm willing to do a hell of a lot to help out, but I'm not going to jump through hoops and play Detective Rob because some asshole wants to be an asshole. In conclusion, a big "fuck you" to whoever did this.

As a side note, Bukkit has been tripping errors like no tomorrow and is slowly killing the server. It has already destroyed the OPs ability to use any and all TP commands, everyone's ability to use commands such as msg (which is in vanilla), and it's spamming around 30 lines of errors in the console every single time a user places a block. I've looked online and have conferred with various people, and no solution has been found. As a result, Bukkit is being removed. This means no more /afk. I apologize, but this is 100% necessary if we don't want to have a world restart within a month. That is how severe of a server strain the errors is causing.

Fine, no list, no banning, no motivation not to do it again. We'll see how that plays out, I guess.

Blake hit the nail on the head - no-one's fault that it happened, we weren't clear enough about the rules. Funnily enough, this was actually a subject of discussion last night pre-dewatering, but I just never got around to throwing up rules. If anyone is to blame, it's probably me.

Modded Server Rules:

1. If you created a Mystcraft age and no longer need it, you MUST PM or otherwise notify one of the OPs in order to have it deleted on a continuous basis. If this rule is not followed, we'll have to implement a spreadsheet for claiming ages and set a max number of ages per player - something no-one wants. Please be courteous; it only takes a minute to do this.

2. If you add water to a quarry, you may never remove that water. Consider that a quarry's water doesn't just have one stream of water down - removing the water causes the server to have to render ALL of the blocks of water in the middle as well as they fall. This is server-killing.

Also, as a general update, our Dynmap will be updated shortly (possibly today?) to remove Mystcraft ages. I did not consider Mystcraft thoroughly enough when adding Dynmap, and the amount of files that it adds and strain on the server is staggering. Right now it isn't really an issue, but as a matter of scaling, it's unsustainable going forward. I'd rather nip it in the bud now than allow server errors to pop up as a result of the strain. Dynmap will remain, but it will only include the overworld, nether, end, twilight forest, and the promised land.

IF you have a long-term age that you plan to do a serious amount of work/living/exploring in and would like it added to dynmap, PM me or Blake and we'll discuss it. We'd likely have fairly strict requirements regarding what defines a long-term age (i.e. been around for a month, have a major build/structure within it, only one per person, etc.), but such things have not been ironed out yet (nor will they be until someone asks, most likely).

I'm going to post a URL for donations to help pay for RobCraft server costs. This is NOT something anyone should feel obligated to do, but understand that hosting the server does cost money ($24/month). I'm perfectly fine with paying all server costs myself, and wouldn't have created RobCraft at all if that weren't the case. Donations are always helpful, though. Notably, anything donated will be set aside by me to go only towards server costs.

Donation Link

As an aside, I am looking into options for community events and potentially purchasing a second server (vanilla, this time - so it costs much less) to host events and other things. This is in response to the last poll, which seemed to favor more community events.
Nevermind, dav's server will cover this. Also, an enderdragon run on the RobCraft server is likely going to occur after I get my computer back. It will be scheduled in advance for a time when the most amount of people are able to do it.

...No it isn't, and I'd prefer if you posted actual information instead of sensationalist statements that make other server users come panicking into IRC thinking they've lost all progress.

Everything is fixed now. The culprit was Klaz's cow grinder - the block that triggered the error was a Redstone Transfer Conduit (or something similarly named) or a Liquiduct based on the item ID. I broke the relevant blocks and can replace them at a later time.

Due to concerns about server lag, the following rules are being put in place regarding soul shards. If a player is found to break these rules, you risk losing your soul shards/spawners altogether.

Soul Shard Rules:

1. There are no rules/regulations on Tier 1-2 soul shards.
2. Tier 3-4 soul shards are BANNED entirely. They may not be used, as they cannot be turned off through the use of redstone.
3. Each player is allowed to use a maximum of one Tier 5 soul shard at a time. You can possess/set up more than one soul shard, but only one may be active at any given time.
4. Each player must hook up a wireless redstone kill switch to their Tier 5 soul shards. The frequency of the kill switch should be sent to me by PM (on mafiascum or IRC). This is just so that any server issues caused by soul shards can be quickly and easily addressed.

I don't think anyone currently has more than one Tier 5 soul shard active, but in the interests of fairness, if anyone DOES then they have a full week to comply with that limit. Kill switches are needed immediately, though, because of the importance of being able to address any server issues that pop up.

FTB Server Announcement:

Using the Alkahest in any type of automated fashion (i.e. in an Advanced Crafting Table, etc.) causes server errors that crash the server and require MCEdit to be used to remove the automating block. Due to this, using the Alkahest in an automated fashion is now against the rules for obvious reasons. You can still use it manually to your heart's content.

You cannot automate either, because they are extremely likely to cause the same issue again. Sorry, I should have been more clear on that.

Important Announcement about RobCraft:

This is something I did not want to have to announce, but there's really no getting around it. I am having some financial difficulties. I was denied an expected promotion at work, which means less pay than expected and less hours than expected. Additionally, I have a tax bill coming this year that is going to be absurdly high. I am lucky in that I earned a lot of scholarships, but they are all taxed and aren't being withheld on. Due to this, I'm going to have difficulties continuing to pay for the server. I've already essentially cut out all luxury items from my budget, but it's looking like saving up for this tax bill is going to take every penny I can spare.

If there is anyone who would consider taking over RobCraft in its entirety (i.e. both admin/mod and financial obligations), please approach me. I'd really like to provide a seamless transition from me to another user who is willing to take over - one that doesn't result in a world restart and doesn't majorly affect any of our regular players.

Sorry about this - I've really tried to push off this announcement as long as possible in the hopes that I could pull some magic to make things work on my end, but it's just not happening.

RobCraft will be shutting down on Sunday, December 8th. The final save will be at Saturday, December 7th at roughly 6PM EST. The world files will be preserved and passed along to a potential future server owner to do with them as they wish. Any questions, ask me in IRC.

I strongly encourage any hold-outs that haven't gotten involved in vanilla again in the past few weeks to do so. The community is very strong there at the moment, and it's better than modded as a result.

I can pay for another month so that you have longer to find another owner. Just tell me how
I already have the person who I'm passing files along to - the reason the server is shutting down at the moment is because of lack of interest, for the most part. Vanilla is running full steam at the moment and no one has stepped foot on modded in a while. It's up to the person with the files when they decide to bring RobCraft back up (probably with a new name >.> ), but the idea was floated that it could possibly be when Forge is updated to 1.7.
