Here's why I hate GregTech, izak/Blake - you ready?

This is in GregTech "Easy Mode
TM
", provided by the FTB Universal config pack, downloadable online to check against what I have here.
Keep in mind, the end result of all this is to get the means to create a single Basic Solar Panel.

(
AND
this does not even take into consideration the varied means of powering these different machines
OR
the basic IC2 Machines needed...)

Spoiler: Rolling Machine (for the Cupronickel Heating Coil & the Mixed Metal Ingots)
4 Pistons (16 Cobblestone, 12 Wood Planks, 4 Iron Ingots, 4 Redstone)
4 Iron Ingots
1 Crafting Table (4 Wood Planks)

Spoiler: Pulverizer (for the Ferrous Dust/Ingots)
2 Copper Ingots
2 Flint
1 Piston (4 Cobblestone, 3 Wood Planks, 1 Iron Ingots, 1 Redstone)
1 Machine Frame (4 Iron Ingots, 4 Glass, 1 Gold Ingot)
1 Redstone Reception Coil (2 Redstone, 1 Gold Ingot)

Spoiler: Industrial Centrifuge (for the Silicon Cells, via centrifuging Redstone)
4 Refined Iron
2 Advanced Machine Blocks
4 Advanced Alloys (6 Refined Iron, 6 Bronze Ingots, 6 Zinc Ingots ->
ROLLING MACHINE
-> 4 Mixed Metal Ingots ->
COMPRESSOR
)
4 Carbon Plates (32 Coal ->
MACERATOR
-> 32 Coal Dust -> 8 Raw Carbon Fiber -> 4 Raw Carbon Mesh ->
COMPRESSOR
)
2 Machine Blocks (16 Refined Iron)
2 Advanced Circuits
8 Redstone
4 Glowstone Dust
4 Lapis Lazuli
2 Electronic Circuit
12 Copper Cables (6 Copper Ingots, 12 Rubber/Rubber Bars)
4 Redstone
2 Refined Iron
1 Extractor
4 Treetaps (20 Wood Planks)
1 Machine Block (8 Refined Iron)
1 Electronic Circuit
6 Copper Cables (3 Copper Ingots, 6 Rubber/Rubber Bars)
2 Redstone
1 Refined Iron

Spoiler: Industrial Blast Furnace (for Silicon Plates, via blasting Silicon Cells)
4 Cupronickel Heating Coils (4 Copper Ingots, 4 Ferrous Ingots ->
ROLLING MACHINE
)
2 Induction Furnaces
14 Copper Ingots
2 Advanced Machine Blocks
4 Advanced Alloys (6 Refined Iron, 6 Bronze Ingots, 6 Zinc Ingots ->
ROLLING MACHINE
-> 4 Mixed Metal Ingots ->
COMPRESSOR
)
4 Carbon Plates (32 Coal ->
MACERATOR
-> 32 Coal Dust -> 8 Raw Carbon Fiber -> 4 Raw Carbon Mesh ->
COMPRESSOR
)
2 Machine Blocks (16 Refined Iron)
2 Electric Furnaces
4 Redstone
2 Electronic Circuits
12 Copper Cables (6 Copper Ingots, 12 Rubber/Rubber Bars)
4 Redstone
2 Refined Iron
2 Iron Furnaces (1 Furnace [8 Cobblestone], 5 Iron Ingots)
2 Electronic Circuits
12 Copper Cables (6 Copper Ingots, 12 Rubber/Rubber Bars)
4 Redstone
2 Refined Iron
1 Advanced Machine Block
2 Advanced Alloys (3 Refined Iron, 3 Bronze Ingots, 3 Zinc Ingots ->
ROLLING MACHINE

COMPRESSOR
)
2 Carbon Plates (16 Coal ->
MACERATOR
-> 16 Coal Dust -> 4 Raw Carbon Fiber -> 2 Raw Carbon Mesh ->
COMPRESSOR
)
1 Machine Block (8 Refined Iron)

After you have
ALL OF THAT
, the following is the actual recipe for GregTech "Easy Mode's
TM
" Basic Solar Panel:
3 Glass Panes
2 Electronic Circuits
12 Copper Cables (6 Copper Ingots, 12 Rubber/Rubber Bars)
4 Redstone
2 Refined Iron
2 Silicon Plates (2 Silicon Cells [Redstone ->
INDUSTRIAL CENTRIFUGE
] ->
INDUSTRIAL BLAST FURNACE
)
1 Carbon Plate (8 Coal ->
MACERATOR
-> 8 Coal Dust -> 2 Raw Carbon Fiber -> 1 Raw Carbon Mesh ->
COMPRESSOR
)
1 Generator
1 RE-Battery
4 Tin Ingots
2 Redstone
1 Copper Cable (
1
/
3
Copper Ingots,
1
/
6
Rubber/Rubber Bars)
1 Machine Block (8 Refined Iron)
1 Furnace (8 Cobblestone)

In post 13120, blake5135 wrote:Yes because I want more active admins in-game. Not ones that have to log on when a member complains about something wrong or something.

more reasons in irc.
I understand this, and I know Rob will rebut by saying that we are "not taking responsibility for the decision we make", but the fact is that I would never have stopped playing if the Modpack and world hadn't become increasingly unstable and (personally) unplayable, do more to a terrible internet connection than anything else. (The fact that Klazam also stopped playing around this time had a lot to do with the fact we do much of our activities in Minecraft together, but it also had to do with personal motives, I'm sure.) I have always fully intended on returning to the server when 1) my school and work schedule were more permitting, 2) my personal internet connection allowed it, and 3) the Modpack was improved upon. As anybody with basic reading comprehension can understand, the process to improve the Modpack has been ongoing for the past few weeks/months, and I'm anticipating many saying it shouldn't've taken even this long, and my only response would be to challenge that person to do better.

I will not speak for izak, and Maruchan cannot even come under consideration in my opinion. Removing him as Admin would result in me personally recommending to him that he pull all pretense of attempting to host an FTB Server for an ungrateful community such as this one. From day 1 (or almost day 1) this Modded Server has been completely hosted by Maruchan and Corin's hosting service, without asking for donations every minute or even every day AS WOULD BE THE CASE IN ANY OTHER SERVER OUT THERE. This hosting service has been growing into a business venture between partners that I hear is soon to be incorporated. The fact that Maruchan chooses to spend his time working on his studies, his business, and his military training does not give anyone the right (least of all you, Blake) to call him out and demand a new Admin in his stead.

P-Edit: With regards to Rob's correct assertions about what went on during our conversation in the IRC today: it was documented and sent to the rest of the Admin Team - every word - and while I regret any personal insult that was meant, my original understanding was that he was not upset to have a discussion about a Mod which (to his knowledge) was still under consideration and was still being discussed. It is my belief that my own playstyle or opinion shouldn't matter to any member of this server, insofar as preferred style of play is utilized in-game. That you took whatever I said about the differences between our playstyles seriously, or that you were offended by it is unfortunate and was not intended.

However, I will add that my opinions about the functionality of the different Mods and their effects on the gameplay dynamic provided by a server are EXACTLY WHAT AN ADMIN IS SUPPOSED TO PROVIDE. If you do not like my opinion that IndustrialCraft 2 is an oversimplified, overpowered, handicapping Mod that should not become the backbone of a Minecraft experience, and if you do not like the fact that I will push that opinion to the rest of the Admin Team (which herein agreed with the opinion), then this is what the current poll is for - to remove Admins you do not think represent your opinion as players.

Speaking of which, please note the current anonymous poll that has been posted including every possible combination of Admin removals that could be considered. As I already said, I don't think Maruchan should even be on the list, and in my opinion removing him as Admin would allow him to (within every right) remove his hosting support from the Modded Server. That such an ungrateful community as this one exists is appalling to me, that it exists here is shocking, without even mentioning his and Corin's timeless hours spent getting this service available to this playerbase.

Posting this now to respond to Rob's thoughts on GregTech...

In post 13136, blake5135 wrote:Lag is bad only a few days, crashes happen eh maybe every thirty minutes or 45? with the everynow and then server restart.
And I find this unplayably bad, and the other Admins agree - you all deserve a better experience and we have been attempting to give you one. The fact that we have not been playing in the mean time reflects on our decisions as players, not as Admins. Given the current "active" players on the server, define and defend who would become Admins and please name 3 people who would not...I would have a hard time, since the active playerbase right now is only about 5 people, probably less. Turning any of these players into Admins defeats the purpose of having a team to administrate a server - why is one needed when they outnumber the playerbase?

@Rob: I am an Admin because I was the first to be involved with Maruchan in discussions about a Modded Server. Ever. And the fact that this community has grown to be so ungrateful to him for the services he has provided has happened in the meantime, and was not something I recognized until Blake, a friend of Maruchan's that is not even a full-fledged member of the MafiaScum community, suggested Maruchan's removal as Admin.

If your goal, Rob, is to force out the entire Admin team, I would have to ask where your playerbase is at that point. 4 people...out of a server that has never had more than 10 active members...offers a saddening vision for the future of the Modded Server (if any future is to be had).

I will echo Klazam's thoughts, and add that I too am perfectly willing to step down if that is what everybody wants.

@Rob: What makes me a bad Admin in your view Rob? Serious question.

...how is that different from his current status on the Server?

In post 13137, Rob14 wrote:M created his own Ultimate server last night because he likes playing with the stuff on Ultimate, including GregTech. In fact, he specifically mentioned GregTech as something he wanted to play with. You guys have worked to create the "perfect modpack", and yet have members of your own ranks going on separate servers specifically to play mods not included in this pack. This would all be very lol-worthy if it didn't destroy my ability to play because I'm NOT going to split time between multiple servers just to get the experience I wanted in the first place - what we have RIGHT NOW, minus lag. Take DW20 and disable Mystcraft and Thaumcraft. This would be an improvement.
I start my own servers from time to time off my laptop, yes.
They have always been made public for anybody watching/wanting to join from IRC or wherever we're talking, yes.

And in my opinion, they are ABSOLUTELY no different from your little pet project, that Events Server, because NONE of the "servers" have ever stayed active for more than a week and half tops, and NONE of them offered anything to me or the other players that a multiplayer experience couldn't offer. Not to mention that my internet connection up until 24 hours ago caused such a horrendous amount of lag for anybody else that the "servers" you talk about were actually close to 50% single-player. To rebut even further, Rhinox, EspeciallyTheLies, and davroe have ALL expressed interest in joining one of these temporary "funloltimez" servers with myself and Klaz - AND THEY'VE BEEN ALLOWED TO JOIN WITHOUT HESITATION.

The fact that these temporary, personal worlds were NEVER offered as an alternative to the "Main" server, and the fact that they were never exclusive to ANYONE is something you fail to mention, and something which was NEVER brought up as an issue in the moment - you're only mentioning it now as a low-based dig against my character or some other such personal attack.

SECONDLY - it is YOUR CHOICE to not divide your time between servers, and to be perfectly frank, the REASON I joined Aperture's FTB Server (I can't speak for Klaz), is that I wanted a completely hassle-free experience where I didn't have to be the Admin. I wanted to be able to simply PLAY without worrying about getting server lag down or helping out noobs to Mods or resisting the temptation to NEI in anything my heart desired. I JUST WANTED TO PLAY SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR A CHANGe, which is and never will be a crime. As I player, I have every right to do that, Rob, and you saying otherwise makes me even more sure of what I called you this evening. This is also something none of the players here ever consider when they think about removing us from our "positions of power". (loled at that phrase btw - I'm a fucking 19-year-old Admin for a Modded Minecraft Server off a forum website...if you think that's power then oi...)

The Admins want to be players too. We don't want to HAVE to worry about getting the Modpack fixed or helping you all out every time there's lag or something gets lost or destroyed, but we do because it's what we're supposed to do. And I personally never had a problem with it till this outcry of resentment over this issue.

Blake, do you have anything else to say against me as an Admin other than my inactivity over the past few weeks?

I'd actually be very interested in hearing it, I consider you a voice of reason in this discussion and I want to know what else I've done wrong, if anything, to warrant removal - in your opinion. Same with izak. And since Klazam seems to be exempt from this opinion, I'd ask why that as well.

In post 13139, Maestro wrote:Posting this now to respond to Rob's thoughts on GregTech...
Shit, never did this...and it's less serious and definitely less related to the issue at hand but here goes...

Basically yeah, I am semi-in tolerant of GregTech since I've been using its "Normal Mode" on Aperture FTB in the FTB Ultimate Pack. To be completely honest, izak and Blake's inability to directly articulate what was so cool about it may have contributed (OMG SEMIFLUID GENERATOR WTF GUYS?!?), but the main issue at stake for me RE: GregTech is my slow realization that in one thing GregoriusT is exactly correct: IndustrialCraft is unbalanced.

So unbalanced, in fact, that if the Mod author's themselves will not change it overpowered armor, oversimplified machines, or quick endgame pathway, somebody sure as hell should do it. And though that somebody turned out to be an arrogant little shithead (c'mon izak, even you gotta agree Greg is a dick), the Mod has taken me in and I would just like to apologize for any ranting I ever did about GregTech.

That being said, my contribution to the IC2 discussion doesn't change - Rob and others would still have a problem with IC2 + GregTech, which is the only way I'd want it in. Having to "relearn" Modded Minecraft with or without IndustrialCraft 2 is one of Rob's main opposition points anyway, and GregTech would influence this just as much as the removal of IC2 would (or almost as much anyway...).

P.S. Things I like about GregTech: SemiFluid Generators - A USE FOR ALL THAT FUCKING CREOSOTE!!! Advanced Machines (Rotary Macerator, Singularity Compressor, Centrifuge Extractor) - very well done machines. why was the Induction Furnace so special in the first place anyway? These should be in Vanilla IC2! (this technically isn't GT but whatever, just realized this...) Industrial Blast Furnaces - even though they're expensive as fuck, I love Multiblock structures of all kinds. the more realistic "temperature" gauge and requirement is interesting too. Yeah...bet y'all are back to arguing so I'll P-Edit now I guess...

P-Edit: Huh. Because it's something that I as a player would say. So if you disagree with that, I guess I understand. Admins aren't allowed to have abrasive/rude opinions...interesting thought. Answer me this though - since we both lapsed in playing, how much more often has Klaz been on the server than I have?

Serious question, because I'm not 100% sure. If you are, definitely say so.

And I'm done for the night I think.

I just want to know where we stand Rob, since I've apologized and I don't know what else to do at this point

or if it was about what I said today...seriously? I've explained the situation, which everybody only heard about from Rob when were both very upset at eachother, didn't have any context for, etc. and I've apologized...I just don't understand how seemingly everything I like about being here in this Modded Server could get fucked up so wonderfully in this short span of time, and I don't really honestly understand how it all seemingly became my fault that it's fucked up as much as it is at this point

dappyscroo, the reason the decision was made to nix RedPower2 was not because of ANY fault in its content. The fault lies with the Mod author, who is unreliable and has not released a build for 1.5.2 at this point in time. With the timetable drawing ever nearer, and the server issues as they were/are getting worse, we can't and shouldn't wait on a single MOd to have a stable server experience. It's as simple as that.

I'll talk to Corin about it this week, hopefully he'll be online

izak, you really need to get on IRC or PM us before doing things like this...or at least look at the Google Doc.
I've had a working MultiMC instance for about 36 hours now and we're waiting on Maru since doing all the work to get the Mod permissions a second time is ridiculously foolish :P

Anyway, almost all the modmakers we might otherwise need to contact have explicitly granted permission for private FTB packs - have a look at this.

Anyway, I'll PM you what I've got, in the format they want it. The ones marked ">>>NEED PERMISSION" should be the only ones we still need explicit permission from the modmakers for.

RESTART - Rhinox, Andy, Maru, Tierce
NO RESTART - Rob13, Klazam

Sorry, no I won't create a poll for this. Mainly because a poll can include people who just brush by the thread and say "lol a poll, ok I'll do it" but also mainly because this is a community and a community doesn't need anonymous votes for something like this. I have no opinion, I just want to know what the majority thinks should happen at this point - not even saying it'll go down if we get some kind of majority.

but know this:

1) world files will be saved until the end of time, I'd be against public distribution mainly because I'm hoping we can implement the files for some kind of recurring event...though if people rage at me about not having their favorite build in an outdated Vanilla world I'll probably cave and put up a dl link
2) we'll be getting all KINDS of new crap in 1.6 (HORSES ANYBODAY?!) so if some decision is reached it can wait till then, in the meantime Bukkit will be going up as soon as MafiaCraft shenanigans are completed and running smoothly
3) sorry if this offends anybody, but RE - community and shiz I kinda feel like I have to look at the opinions of older members as something of particular consideration, also I'm gonna ask (specifically) Claus and jmj and some of the other old-timers to weigh in on this if they'd be willing

I'm living out of the Blacksmith, Maruchan and davroe are in the Church, Rob is in a Library, and Klaz is in the Butcher's shop. davroe got 12 diamonds since the last update, which he used to make a Diamond Pick and an Enchanting Table (since Rob & Klaz were already offline at that point waiting till morning had to happen anyway...) the farms I've kindof upgraded to be more efficient, I was barely done harvesting half of them when I had 2 stacks of Wheat after a VERY successful mining trip (which yielded 1.5 stacks of Iron - davroe and I are decked out now too)

dav's currently working on the Enchanting Library on top of the blacksmith (lol, not my idea but whatev) so I think we'll need to find some cows soon gents - if anybody wants to get on that...? EDIT: Sugar Cane is nearby across the river IIRC. I can just tweak one of the existing farms for Cane and that should be fine

a short P.S. for anybody wishing to join: COMMUNAL living means we're pooling EVERYTHING we find in a bunch of double chests on the second floor of the church. don't be a dick, be fair about what you take and if you die and lose shit...well you'll be banned already so it'll be your own damn fault 2x over

Agge, I just manually checked the MafiaCraft pack folder downloaded from a fresh install of v1.0.3 from the FTB Launcher - it didn't even download a "mods" folder for the supposed Forge to interact with. The download itself is borked, and this is not some simple fix.

Apparently enough people have been having success downloading the pack SOMEHOW that Maru had some people on that temp server earlier - you should definitely turn to them for answers whilst we work things out with the FTB Team. Sorry for all the shit guys, you know we're just as eager to have a Modded server back as you all... :?

Huh? what goes? the Ender registry? meh

I'm ambivalent - and if there's any kind of registry it should be exact combinations, not "herp derp I want everything that starts with Blue/Blue" or some such

Maruchan - there's no way to remove the "Edited by" tag IF IT'S EDITED AFTER SOMEBODY ELSE POSTS
If somebody else hasn't posted yet and you edit, it's NEVER going to show the tag, you dolt

EDIT: Oh, see what M did? he edited his post...

EDIT x2: Still no tag? JEEZ DAT'S WEIRD

EDIT x3: HUH WASSAT THING DOWN THERE :down:

jesus dav, try and spoil that shit

also, YES DAV AND I CONQUERED A DARK TOWER MWAHAHAHAHA BE JEALOUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS *boom* in other news, izak and I have agreed (and we expect Klaz will have no problem with the decision) that all participants in a Twilight Forest Boss Battle will receive the appropriate Boss Trophy as long as all participants are satisfied with everybody's individual effort, etc. basically, they're just decorative, so if you helped kill it (within reason, shooting one arrow don't count) then you get a copy of the Trophy - just ask the nearest Admin and have somebody else from the group corroborate or some shit.

I saw the exact error we're having in that thread, Rhino - the Mod author responded to the issue saying it's caused by the fuel slot being empty while the furnace is smelting, which is bullshit because it's not empty so I have no idea what to do. we're working on it

Rei's Minimap can be installed easily, by the individual user - it wouldn't work with the newest snapshot or anything though
I like Rhino's idea of having the newest version THAT COULD STILL HAVE all the IRC features that we've come to enjoy

P.S. though, Maru, I don't have FTP access or anything to either non-Modded server that seems to be up...I keep getting an error when trying to log in

^ quoted for my own reference, unfortunately CameraCraft, Xeno's, WR-CBE, and Runic Dust have all not been updated to 1.5.1 at this time

this just means they probably won't be added to this upcoming edition of the pack - we do need to get the update sorted out AT LEAST for Traincraft's new update and fix
I can look over the already-included Mods for 1.5.1 content updates so we stop getting those textwalls when we log in, but if they're for 1.5.2 there'll be nothing for it

also, yes davroe, Doggy Treats looks cool and we'll probably at least look into it (I honestly don't see why not, izak, other than clutter? at this point most people don't use Dogs/Wolves anyway)

@T-Bone, if you need help with the Traincraft temp fix that izak cooked up, I believe he left instructions on the previous page, but davroe looks to have it covered. Let us know if you have any other problems but understand that temp fix will only be necessary till this Thursday (if the FTB Team has their shit together now, that is)

ah Maru, always overreacting and such, etc.

the left is Oso, who can tell you he prefers 9,000 block Overworld journeys by sea to 1,000 block Nether journeys of doom and peril. the right is myself, and yes, I tped there. to prove a point, dav, ETL and I have all just journeyed there 100% legitimately and /spawned back to the main island in the overworld within 30-40 minutes without dying once (dav and I also got a considerable amount of Manyullyn out of it, among other things)

yes it was nerve-wracking having to cross 2-3 oceans of lava between A and B, but it wasn't otherwise too much work. so I say that you over-exaggerate. this specific situation also had 3 of us looking out for eachother and getting in eachothers' way and losing eachother from time to time...so I imagine with just 1 it would be even faster/easier but it would depend on the person.

the middle one I assume is izak's and he can speak for himself, but if you thought for a second you'd remember that 1) Klaz and I are co-Emperors and would share a Nether Pump, and 2) that Klaz hasn't had anything near reliable computer access since the new server started

shame on YOU, sir

I'll probably do what you suggested dav, I might even throw down a Magmatic for each pump...they should autorefill from the pips coming out of the pump itself - that would work nicely

why would it be a waste of Lava? I'm sure they can power the pump for much more than they require to run, don't you think?

thanks to Maru we know that Forge's auto-allocation of Item ID's apparently didn't work the same in clients as it did on server so that won't fix the ID mismatch people get when logging into the server if they've downloaded 1.0.4. I'll make the server's Traincraft config a public download tonight for those who want/know how to make the 1.0.4 update work, but for now let's talk about the pack update for this Thursday - both the server and the clients should be updating then and it'll make it all easier.

P.S. check out the Plugins for Forestry thing, I talked to the Mod author and it seems like it'd be an awesome compat mod to add. any other suggestions should be discussed now.

The new Vanilla Server is up on the following IP address:
46.105.234.0:25567

At this time the server is running Minecraft Weekly Snapshot #13w22b

Click the link to find the Mojang.com post which will provide a
download link for the new Development Snapshot Launcher

I'll post in-thread reminding you all to update your Development Clients to new Snapshots as they become available, since the server will always be run off the most recent snapshot. If any world-breaking circumstances occur between snapshots, or if we decide to keep this up all the way to 1.6 and the world breaks then,
EVERYTHING
that players have accumulated on this server will be provided so as to ensure a consistent experience.

P.S. OP updates are being discussed, all this information and more will be put in the OP tonight or tomorrow at some point...

shit I did today that dav saw some of:

finished the farm plateau I had started yesterday (Macchu Picchu-style) that comes right off the Keep, even added support beams :D
it almost hit the road, so I expanded the road right by that one location a little to the left - it's all good now

because Tierce had a little trouble yesterday getting in, I attached our basement to the road via a tunnel through the mountain...which Maru got creepered on...
it's rather obnoxiously lit up now, but you'll all be safe near the mouth of it forever more.

dav and I went on a mining trip into a small mine he'd set up...that eventually opened up into a MASSIVE cave system that must've stretched all the way to spawn because dav eventually found some Gold he couldn't break and that I could XD I pretty much mined the damn thing to hell, and we are pretty well set on everything...EXCEPT FUCKING DIAMONDS

which dav and I have yet to find a single one of
I think Tierce took them already :evil:

so I went to the Nether, mined about 4 stacks of GS Dust, 2 stacks of Quartz (I'll probably just use it for building...) and some Netherrack, killed two Ghasts before I ran out of Arrows (no Tears, damn fuckers) and then got stuck in a Soul Sand meadow while being attacked by a third

oddly enough, the idiot flew down to within Sword's reach so I just whacked him once and he got ded. twas fun. I like the Nether 10x more without the light-red creepy harbingers of death and the semi-uncooperative exploding Ores

I think you a word there, Rhino <3

in other news, Rhino saw the WIP model as it rose from the ground in the middle of the community on the new Vanilla server, but there is now a fully operational 100% pretty, clean, simple, easy-to-use automatic crop farm here!

the reason it wasn't is because Mojang hadn't pushed the snapshot for servers the last time I checked for an update - it was only out for clients. Now it's out for both so I'm updating to weekly snapshot 13w23b - everybody update your Dev clients!

ALSO THERE WILL BE AN OP UPDATE SOME TIME TODAY AFTER I GET MY NEXT MODDED GAME UP AND RUNNING <3

For those who do not know, the above Mod "VoxelMap" is in every way equivalent to Zan's Minimap, which is in turn superior in every way to Rei's Minimap. (at least IMHO)

Zan's Minimap function operates properly in the Nether, its cave mapping is superior, and its entity radar shows not only Mod alignment (neutral/hostile) but also the EXACT type of Mob you may encounter. of course all of these things are configurable, and if you think these features are overpowered or unbalanced that is a separate issue - but we've had them enabled on the server for a little while now and since nobody has complained I would assume that Zan's (since it is superior in its handling of all these functions) would also be the better choice for the server as a Minimap Mod.

Also, for those who frequent the IRC, the second developer of the Zan's Minimap mod actually frequents our IRC, and has offered comment on the modding history between Rei's and Zan's Minimap. You're perfectly free to corroborate this story with lahwran on the IRC on your own time, but it is my understanding that Rei's stole all of his original code early on from the developing Zan's Minimap, which has since only seen a resurgence in popularity after it was adopted by the Voxel guys and included in their packs.

I'd much rather support the original than a hackneyed, unsupported, badly-ripped off carbon-copy, but we wanted you all to have input on this. :D

Why yes, they still can...for about as long as it takes you to physically put a bunch of blocks back together. As long as they don't destroy something like a full Redstone Energy Cell, their overall danger is completely nullified by this Mod and this
IS
severely nerfing their purpose in Minecraft.
The Minecraft Wiki wrote:A Creeper is a hostile mob that makes use of a suicide-style attack: It approaches players and then explodes, causing damage to players as well as surrounding blocks and entities.

In post 13978, Rhinox wrote:For that I guess I am against adding pointless things that only serve to bloat the modpack.
Actually, I like this point more than any other. The whole point of designing our own pack was to focus on the content-filled, fun-to-use Mods that we all liked, whether from experience in Mindcrack/DW20 or from personal experience. (Tinker's got added this way, and I don't know a single person on server
WITHOUT
a Tinker's tool or weapon except
MAYBE
Clammy or Rhino. I'm sure they have plans for getting one or more in the near future...)

The whole point of making our own pack rather than switching to (say) Ultimate, or just staying with DW20 and eliminating the problem Mods (Mystcraft, Thaumcraft, etc.) was that we DIDN'T want little things like this making their way in just because they were already in the pack or everybody had no opinion on them.

P-Edit:
ACTUALLY
, just so everyone knows, I'm almost positive this Mod theoretically nerfs
ALL
explosions that occur, allowing for Vanilla TNT, Nitro Creepers, and even Withers to now be used as excessively profitable mining tools - and yes, even in the Nether. It doesn't and can't modify
JUST
what the Creeper does, since the Creeper's effects are 100% based off the generated javascript for how the game handles explosions. All this Mod does is change the way the game handles explosions and tells it that something can still explode, it will just drop all the blocks effected by said explosion, instead of destroying them.

The Mod Author's Minecraftforum thread wrote:Creeper Collateral exposes the rate at which explosions drop block items in a config file. Vanilla minecraft is 0.3. This mod sets the default to 1.0 so no block is ever completely destroyed by a Creeper.
...but yes, I'm right, because he's has no way of preventing this config change from effecting
EVERY SINGLE EXPLOSION IN THE GAME
- it's not just Creepers, folks.

Well we've been told we need to take community more often, ESPECIALLY with regard to things that the Admin team doesn't want at all and would nix on principle.

There's also something to be said for the fact that the Yay's are mostly those players whose presence has increased on the Modded Server, while the Nay's are mainly the ones who've been around since and played/play frequently on Vanilla.

P-Edit: WHAT KLAZ SAID. NO MORE DRAMALLAMAZ.

In post 14006, EspeciallyTheLies wrote:This is not even a major "content" mod, as you guys say (like IC2 was). I don't understand why it was even posed, tbh. I voted because I could, but I don't really care. It's not going to break the game either way and in all honesty, it doesn't add anything to our existing mods, or anything really game-changing. I'm surprised it wasn't nixed out the gate.
To be quite honest in return, it was posed because certain supportive members of the community may've flipped out if we'd nixxed it purely based on our own judgement - but it's good to know the rest of you think we should be handling things a little more internally. Glad we had this whole discussion though. :P

Either way izak, it looks like more people had more to say then you think, so yes, I think this was necessary.

Nobody's angry, nobody's leaving, we gained insight into what the community thinks we should do for future situations akin to this one.

It's not an issue izak, it never was. You're the only one who's making it seem like one ATM.

...wut? we added a whole new dimension...?

if you mean Twilight forest, we added that WHEN THE WORLD ORIGINALLY STARTED
we can't and won't add Natura or anything else that has that much worldgen now that the world already exists

Well the main thing about re-adding IC2 would be that Klaz and I would most likely give izak every single opportunity to compat the fuck out of it with GregTech configs (e.g. we wouldn't allow IC2 to be re-added without AT LEAST adding GregTech on Normal Mode).

P-Edit: Blake, that's not even English...what are you trying to say?

Just so you guys know, a lovely old-timer has returned to the Vanilla Server!

chesskid PMed Klaz a few minutes ago, and Klaz studiously forwarded him to me. :)
I've given him time to go build a Creeper Farm, and then he's going to TNT the entire server.

Yay! <3

Gotcha, well I don't even remember Natura being brought up until after the world was already started, by which point any and all worldgen Mods were 100% out of the question for future additions to the Modpack
UNLESS
the entire community wanted a world restart at that point. Since the community has voted and said they do
NOT
want such a restart any time in the server's near future, we've dismissed the need to even discuss adding Natura and one or two other worldgen-heavy Mods that have been brought up.

Even I would like to add a worldgen Mod - and I think I have Klaz convinced already - but I'm having to hold off because of the community's decision to keep a more stable world. Which is awesome and fine! This is why we ask these things, and this is why we want input. :)

P-Edit: Indeed izak, but your original configs for GregTech had you forcing it into an almost nonexistent presence on-server. It was only there to add its content, not its limitations. I'm saying given the Admin Team's frustration with IC2's lack of balance and overpowered nature, I'd push for you to ditch the Easy Mode and do whatever you want to make IC2 as hard as you thought it should be. Starting with every UUM nerf you can think of (INCLUDING IRIDIUM). :P

P-Edit: Agreed, Oso. I love IC2 as well, but it's a ridiculously overpowered and unbalanced Mod, and even we have to admit this and account for its effect on server gameplay.

WE HERE AT THE NEW MODDED SERVER PROMISE TO GIVE YOU BETTER THAN THIS OBVIOUS OVERSIGHT UNDER THE OLD REGIME, THE MARUCHAN REGIME!

P-Edit: And by the time Maru "gave it to us and we allowed it to go on" we were at the point where we LITERALLY NEEDED to update the server. You all remember how much
EVERYBODY
was whining about crashes and lag near the end of DW20, and you say you would've wanted us to
WAIT
for community input on a single Mod that is (in one of it's supporters own words) "just about aesthetics"?

No, that's unacceptable. If you want a world restart JUST for Natura, go ahead and convince everybody - I'll have my own little pet Mod to introduce to discussion if that becomes a possibility.

THIS

P-Edit @izak: we do now XD

I don't have the whitelist or the ban list form the ld server, obviously, but if you could put together a list that'd be awesome

All this Mod does is change the way the game handles explosions and tells it that something can still explode, it will just drop all the blocks effected by said explosion, instead of destroying them.
you need to learn forge. I'm 99.999999% sure the mod can only affect creepers, and will download and test this weekend to prove.
admit you were wrong about all kinds of things in this rude post and I'll consider that Bukkit plugin for about 3 seconds than sssssay nope <3

We did have a backup, but they apparently blew up too - you can blame Maruchan if you want though.

Corin's still looking into the possibility of external backups on his own server, but 1) he's a ghost, and 2) people shouldn't hold their breaths. :(

SOME INSTRUCTIONS FOR MODDED SERVER FOLKS:

Before the server goes live with the MafiaCraft v1.1.0 update sometime soon
TM
, you
MUST
remove all Forestry machines from all inventories, including your own player inventory. They
MUST
be placed in the world when the server updates to the new version of Forestry, or they
WILL
be lost and we will not replace them because you have now officially been given ample warning to counteract this issue.

For proof that I'm not just fucking with you look here right under the downloads box.

Forestry machines which
MUST
be removed from any inventory and placed in the world in block form:
  • Carpenters
  • Thermionic Fabricators
  • Moisteners
  • Squeezers
  • MultiFarm-related Blocks (though I doubt this is an issue)
  • Biogas Engines
  • Peat-fired Engines
  • Clockwork Engines
  • Fermenters
  • Stills
  • Bee Houses
  • Apiaries
  • Alveary-related Blocks (ditto MultiFarms)
If you would like an Admin to perform the required legwork because of V/LA to the FTB Modded Server (@ETL?) just PM me, Klaz, or izak (or preferably all three) with the coordinates of your respective storage system(s) and we'll steal your shit and place it in fun places all around your base(s). <3

IMO, the server shouldn't update until a significant amount of people have been able to take the steps to solve the above problem, plus during all the Modpack/Mod authorship discussions of late, compiling the server-side pack from an MCPC perspective got pushed to the wayside.

I'm gonna remedy this tonight before and after work (shouldn't take long, I already have everything and I just need to make sure it doesn't blow up) but in the mean time I'd say around 24 hours too, depending on how many people can log on and take the steps described above.

ALSO ON THE SUBJECT OF MODERATOR BIZNIZ - THE VANILLA SERVER IS UPDATING TO WEEKLY SNAPSHOT 13W24B SOONISH SO I DUN WANNA HEAR NO COMPLAININ' CUZ PPL DIDN'T READ THE THREAD, K?

P.S. Rhinox - it's actually not a weird occurrence at all considering the changes taking place in this update to Forestry and its API.
You'll see more in my "Things to Expect" post. :D

Basically means texture packs are now "resource packs" and can have sounds and music and other cool stuff. It's kind of a step towards the mod API.

Also, Mojang made a tool to automatically update your texture packs.
(I know all about that I was just being funny and giving people a link to the bugfix log thingy all in one! yay!)

Erm, you downgraded...server is on 13w23b, not 24...
I HAD WORK, FAK U, doing this soonish

Server's down until further notice while I fix the world files after dav's little adventure with a Ghost Block. Before anybody (Maru) comes in and asks why I'm leaving the server down rather than just getting the files now and putting them back up on server during a momentary restart later, I'm doing it this way because I can't and won't try to figure out exactly which region file is effected, and even then I don't know if I can edit the file directly without the rest of the world, and since I can't localize the download and the edit I would rather do this than risk people derping online while I'm fixing it and doing work that will just be gone later.

So this way, server's down for a little while and nobody loses anything.

Also, while it's down I'll be running final tests on the Bukkit plugins we use and updating the server to MafiaCraft v1.1.0 (and Minecraft 1.5.2) if things look good.

Consider this your notification that we may've updated by the time you next log on to the Modded Server. If you get on and it says 1.5.1, it probably means tests didn't work out and the Admins need to look over plugin issues.

I mean, use common sense? You're not just gonna be adding things all willy nilly right? I would assume one of you would at least add the mod to your own pack and play around with it for a few minutes to make sure nothing is obviously broken. Maybe even read a few message boards or visit IRC channels to hear what others are saying. If thats not happening because :effort: then
why are you admining a server?
don't add things that aren't tested. simple.
This actually makes me VERY angry, especially if you're implying (like it REALLY LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE) that ANY error in Mod interaction is IN ANY WAY the fault of the Admins. You guys realize that we've been trying to keep the special server jarfile, the Bukkit plugins, and not to even mention the fucking Mods updated to their most stable versions, all while keeping up with all the Doggy Treats shit and the Aether II spam, ALL WHILE jumping through hoops for the FTB guys?

Yes, we test shit. Our testing is exactly why Ars Magica didn't make it into the pack. But we can't, won't, and don't have time test every little interaction between ever little Mod's individual blocks. That's impossible. And dav's just now said the error is not replicable, so WTF would we (or even the Mod author) be able to do?

In post 14186, Rhinox wrote:I mean maybe instead of trying to accommodate everybody's individual request for new content, you guys should implement a 2/3 majority rule for adding new mods - only even begin to consider a mod if 2/3 of the community even wants it. Or at least 50%+1. Don't even waste time looking into a mod until the threshold is met. Is it even worth it to spend effort and energy testing and getting permissions and going through the whole update process for a mod maybe only 1 user even wants?

Its just frustrating pretty sure at this point still you guys spent more time in advance talking in private about this modpack selling it as the be all end all perfect mafiascum modpack and now you guys are like welp its not perfect and never will be wanna do something else entirely? I mean really. Can't we just all play the game for a while? Get it to a mostly stable working version and then never update again for all I care. Go to monthly updates. Go to bugfixes only. Go to major feature updates only after a few months of playing. Anything to take stress off of you guys and spend more time playing.
I like all these ideas; sorry we misunderstood/communicated badly there.

To be honest I would be more than willing to go back to blank slate and just say "50% majority vote for inclusion and Admins have no right to veto but can change configs however they want within reason and then Modpack will only update those Mods, nothing else gets added" or something but that's just more talking and less playing.

In other news I feel like crap and several last-ditch efforts to retrieve SOMETHING from the ClamCastle ME Drive forced me to restore the backup from just after I fixed the chunk error the other day - apologies if you've done anything immensely important since then, please PM me and I'll help rebuild or recapture or reaquire.

SO which of the players on Vanilla Creepered my fucking tunnel and didn't say anything?
I thank you for putting torches up, but seriously? it's Nether Quartz. I'm gonna notice.

I'll count the blocks that are missing so you know how much you owe me for the replacement - it was perfectly well lit and there's really no excuse that it wasn't already fixed
