OH MY GOD BENMAGE IS SO SCUM IT HURTS. There is just no way he's town with the way he came in here, tried to control everyone, and 'break' the set-up when it was pretty obvious from his first sentence that his plan wouldn't even be valid.

Fun fact: I accused Benmage before even looking at this thread. You may all sheep me now.

In a game where little things like that can be swallowed by a flood of posting in an instant, I think the scum can afford to be ballsy. I know pre-game I felt like at least one scum member will lurk-a-durk their way through the game, and at some point we might switch focus onto lurker players.

But Benmage-scum early posting works because he can have a body of work posting to fall back onto, and the rate in which posts are probably going to be made, I think a majority of people will ignore obvious scummy things, so if someone makes em, like you Kid A they'll pretty much write it off.

Our volume of posting is really going to hurt the game. The first three pages are dominated by only 5 players.

Because of the way this game is set up, I think it's extremely important you don't just shit all over your keyboard and call it a post. Let's say the scum are the few players who haven't posted yet? Guess what if the game ended right now they won, because no one suspects them.

I like the conclusion Kid A made in #366, but then you go and ruin it with terrible posting right after.

Anyway, here is my train of thought on that front, and this is based partly on what I did. I logged onto MS, saw I had a PM. Read it, read the part where it mentions "you can accuse here starting now" and did so. Then I started posting in the thread. Honestly I didn't read the sample PMs until after I had checked in.

So BB logs into MS, sees he has a PM. Receives his scum role PM, which also mentions that you can accuse, but the scum PM does not point out that you can do it right away. Then BBscum turns his attention to the game and doesn't even think to check about such a minor detail when he asks "hey can I prechoose DGB for tomorrow?"

Though I admit, when I went to go fact check to see when BB made that post, it was well into the game so that theory is a stretch. But whatever.

Conclusion: It bothers me for the same thing Benmage bothers me, and that this implies a small lack of town mindset. I expect a miscue like that could come from scum legitimately not knowing because his role PM says something a little different and he assumed the town PM would be worded the same. I feel Benmage's opening posts also lack a town mindset, with the added effect that he's also trying to start manipulating people.

Our job in post-Day 1 is two things. One, accuse the right player. Two, make sure no one accuses you. And that's why this plan is bad. I oppose any plan that has people accuse me. I think I've played a very townie game this game, and I want to win.

If you accuse the wrong player you lose. If you get accused the most you lose. My goal to prevent both things and it baffles me that I'm the only one. Now I understand a bit why DGB is pushing this plan, because without it, it's very likely he loses with how many people have expressed interest in voting him. I don't understand why anyone else is pushing it though.

Reasons why I don't want to break the set-up is a discussion for the discussion forums. But you can check my history. I never have and never will support anyone who tries to intentionally break the set-up. I don't like it.
