General Queue Information
Forum Rules and Guidelines

New players will probably want to start playing one game here before playing elsewhere on the site.

Reply in this thread indicating that you'd like to play ("/in for next" is a standard way of doing so).

You will get a PM from your game moderator when your game is about to begin.

Your name should be added to the first post within 24-48 hours. The waiting time for a game to start is currently 4-5 days, on average. Upcoming games will be full when there is one Inexperience-Challenged (IC) player, two Semi-Experienced (SE) player(s), and six Newbie players available. More/less ICs and SEs may be used in any given game to relieve a backlog on those specific areas of the Queue.

Player Game Limits:

Newer Players

Brand new players may only play in
one
Newbie Game.
Brand new players may either play a Newbie game from scratch or replace into an existing Newbie game for your first game.
Once you are out of your first Newbie game (by lynch, night kill, or the end of the game) you may sign up for a second Newbie game.
Players with one finished game anywhere on site may also replace into as many Newbie games as you can handle.
Taking on too many Newbie games at one time, getting overloaded, and replacing out of those games can get you banned from the Newbie Queue!

SEs

When you finish your second game anywhere on this site, you are then considered a Semi-Experienced (SE) player and will occupy one of the SE playing spots.
Replacing out of a game will count as a finished game if there was an acceptable level of participation.
SE players may play in as many Newbie games as they can handle.

ICs

First and formost, the IC slot is a VOLUNTARY TEACHING position. If you don't want to be required to explain how the game works to the Newer players, you should sign up to be an SE. More information can be found in the wiki: IC.
A player that completes 5 games anywhere on-site and has at least 3 months on-site may apply to be an Inexperience Challenged (IC) player.
Send the ListMod a PM with links to your 5 most-recent completed games
when you /in to IC
.
All Potential ICs MUST also read Being a good IC.

For purposes of Player Game Limits:

A
finished
game is one in which you are out of the game (by lynch or night kill) but the game is still being played by others.
A
completed
game is a game in which a winning side has been declared and the game is over.

Players that qualify for SE or IC status may not enter an Alt into the Queue as a Newer Player.

Moderator Requirements:

Potential moderators must have one completed game on this site as a Moderator. See the Modding Requirements wiki article for exact details.
Potential moderators MUST visit the Newbie_Game#Moderators wiki page to see what is required of Newbie game Mods.
Potential moderators must include links to their completed games
when they make the request to be added to the modding rotation
. If you have more than two games as a Mod, please link the latest two.

Replacements:

If you want to replace into a specific game you should send a PM directly to the Mod instead of posting here.
Unless specified, all requested replacements are newbie replacements.
Moderators are welcome to replace with a player of greater skill level if they wish (ICs may replace SEs or Newbies, for example. Newbies may NOT replace into an SE or IC spot).
Please notify the ListMod if you notice a player replace out who then signs up to play another Newbie game within the next 14 days. Replacing due to boredom or any other similarly selfish reason is NOT acceptable and the offender will be suspended from placement into the Queue for a period of two weeks.

The queue is updated through post 110. As you can see, the SE list is quite long, so if any of you qualify to be ICs, that's one way you can jump the queue a bit.

New games are going up soon, starting with Newbie 1221. Again, if you have 2/3 of your original playerlist (and can find replacements for the rest), and have a cashe of your game, feel free to restart your game in the queue. We will not automatically add you to the queue if your game is abandoned, but if you wish to re-/in as a mod, you will be placed at the head of the queue in compensation.

Thank you to everyone who's worked so hard to salvage whatever you can. and for everyone's patience in the getting the queue rebooted.

Also, if you've just received a game and someone doesn't pick up their PM, please pull from the SE list instead of the Newbie Player list. This will help reduce the surplus of SEs and keep the queue going at a reasonable pace. Please do not just take them as a replacement without asking.

I apologize if I mistake anyone's status when signing up for games. So many posts/games were lost in the crash that if someone joined before a certain date, I will assume they've completed more than one game. If you do not have "townsperson" under your name, I will also mostly likely assume you've played more than one game. I do not typically search through your post history to double-check your status.

chkflip already addressed this, but I wanted to be more clear: I will not put games up just because we have enough players for one game. Sometimes players flake, don't pick up their PMs, decide they don't want to play, etc, so we allow mods to replace from the queue if this happens. I will typically keep at least one game's worth in the queue for this reason. Thank you for your understanding.

As of now, the queue is updated through this post. I will give mods of the recovered games 24 hours from this post to PM me if they're going to continue with their games, or they will be officially called and no longer eligible to be played again. That will mark the end of the catch-up, so there should be no more hiccups from here on out. I understand it's taken longer than expected, so thank you again for your patience and willingness to accommodate getting back into the swing of things.

To clarify: If you are just now joining the site and signing up for your first game, the Newbie Queue will accept it as your only game. Should you wish to sign up for games elsewhere, you may do so as you please, but it is advised that you play one Newbie game first. This is different from other queues because this one is designed to foster a newer player's understanding of the game, and if someone takes on too much too fast too soon, it takes away from others' experiences.

It's noted in the OP that you can only play in one Newbie game, and warns against playing too many at once before you know you can handle it. If you're a first time player, and you /in to four different games at once, I will ask you to choose which one is your priority, as I will treat first time Newbie games the same across the queues. We want newer players to get the most out of their first experience here on the site. I apologize if that was a miscommunication on my part.

Hello everyone!

The Newbie Queue is officially back on track and updated again. I kept getting an "Internal Error 500" because the OP was too large, so I apologize for the wonkiness with Voidedmafia's game, updates, etc. The problem should be fixed now, and we'll be back on schedule in no time.

That being said, we are in serious need of mods, so if any of you are in recruitment mode, and/or are feeling venturous, it's quite easypeasylemonsqueazy to sign up and be approved. Same with ICing--I've been making a couple allowances lately due to having lost some games, so please don't shy away from it!

This is an example of vagueness I'd rather not sift through. Whether you think you're qualified for something or you're not, I need you make a decision one way or another. If you're not qualified for something, I'll know and deal with it accordingly; I just don't want to have to make the wrong choice and then you tell me that's not really what you wanted.

I'd also like to clarify something that's been ambiguous. The OP used to state that you may only play one game until you've completed your first game (Newbie or otherwise). It's since been decided and clarified that you may join other queues simultaneously, but you may only play one NEWBIE game as a Newbie, until you've completed your first game on the site. The OP has been updated to reflect this clarification; I apologize for my misunderstanding and any inconvenience this ambiguity has caused. If this has effected you and you'd still like to play a Newbie Game as a Newbie (as opposed to an SE, etc), let me know and you may be bumped to the head of the queue as compensation.

A note: experienced ICs will be placed with newer mods and vice versa. We try to keep the queue in order as much as possible but some exceptions are made to accommodate various situations.

I will also begin specifying the SEs and ICs when I post a game, since they're no longer specified in the OP. Backup mods can still be reference in the OP.

Because there's an influx of mods needing replacements, I'm going to hold off on putting up a new game until those have been satisfied to allow anyone the opportunity to replace into a game if they wish.

@Mods...please note in the thread when your replacements have been filled to avoid an overlap of placements.

If there is still a sufficient amount of players, a new game will be distributed by tomorrow afternoon.

This. I apologize if I was unclear before about my preference for taking directly from the queue. If a player has failed to pick up a PM and it is holding up the start of the game, feel free to take the next Newbie in line so as to keep the queue flowing. I want everyone to have an equal opportunity to play a new game from the start if they wish.

A couple announcements:

I've been sick for the past few days so I haven't had a lot of energy to do anything. The next game will be distributed in the next couple of hours. I'll put the second one up in 24 hours pending there are no MIAs from the first one.

Thank you everyone for keeping up with replacements and announcing when they're filled.

There will be some changes made to the queue soon, so I'll keep everyone posted on that. Right now, we're discussing new Newbie Game setup ideas/options, so as to not remain complacent with any one setup. This won't concern how you sign up/are placed into games, so continue to do that as normal.

The queue is updated through this post.

Some changes:

I've "spoilered" the "games in progress" section. This was to help keep it a reasonable length, and highlight the more important things for newer players to see.
The queue is now right at the bottom of the OP, as opposed to the middle where it's been in the past. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the confusion in finding it and it will no longer be missed while scrolling through the OP.
The games will no longer be updated by Day/lynches/night kills. The Newbie Queue was the only one that did that and it was deemed unnecessary. It will now be updated as far as "starting soon," "in progress." and "X win."
All backup mods and replacements will be noted in the "games in progress section."
The replacement list has been removed as it is outdated and obsolete due to mods doing such a great job of finding them themselves.

I'm reassessing a few other things as far as the queue goes. As always, I'm always up for suggestions. Thank you to everyone that's offered up theirs already; it's done loads to help!

As soon as you've completed your first Newbie game, you may sign up for another and replace into as many as you'd like. All of this still applies to the game limits that qualify you as an SE after your second completed game on the site.

I hope that clears up some of the confusion. I'm hoping to change this around in the near future so that it is less confusing and more applicable to today's Newbies/players.

I promise I'll get better at letting the Queue know when I won't have as much time, and why. My goal is to get a new game up every two-three days, because that seems to be the general flow of the queue. I should've posted an explanation sooner, as to why there wasn't going to be an update by last Friday like I had anticipated (I had an unexpected house guest this past week so my activity on the site as a whole was lacking more than usual).

Please forgive me, and we'll be back into the swing of things in no time!

As Nachomamma8 has explained, you may feel free to sign up in any other queue. The Newbie Queue is designed to give Newbies as normal a game as possible, and because hydras are not a normal mechanic, and do not function the same way, we do not allow them in this queue.

The one change I've made is to the IC section, where it now notates where I have received games and where I have not. If I have not received games to review, it is your responsibility to send them to me. Anyone who does not send me their qualifying IC games within two weeks of signing up in the queue will be removed.

For future reference, please send me the individual games you'd like reviewed. I would prefer not to sift through 10 games on your wiki if some were lost in the crash, ongoing, or non-existent. I want you to send me what YOU think qualifies you as an IC, and what shows YOUR best work as a player.

@Mods...please make sure that Newbies are not already placed into games before you allow them to "skip the queue" and replace into yours. When I put up games I try to make them a separate post so they're not lost in anything and are always noticeable.

@Newbies...please do NOT /in more than once, especially if you haven't already checked the queue to make sure you're there. I do not update the queue instantaneously, but always post when I do, so if you haven't seen a post by me saying that the queue has been updated after you've /inned, chances are I haven't missed it.

@everyone...if I DO happen to make a mistake and miss you in the queue, I've been very good about not delaying your placement into the next game possible, as soon as possible. Please PM me to let me know because that's the fasted way for me to be notified of a mistake. I cannot set the Newbie Queue to send me pop-up notifications like I can PMs.

I'm really sorry guys. This meet took up a lot more of my time and energy than I thought it would (silly me, cuz duh). I feel like half my posts in this thread are apologizing or giving excuses for why the queue isn't running quicker than it is, but as previously stated (I think), this was my last obligation "outside" of mafiascum.

Again, thank you all for your patience and support with all the changes lately and dealing with the last of my time commitments. The last car left today, and as soon as I can sleep off my sore feet and broken back, I will have the queue updated and the next two games up in no time.

Changes are being made soon to what types of setup we're using for the Newbie Queue. I know I've been saying that for ~month or two now, but at this point I am focusing on implementing those changes.

FOR ALL FIRST-TIME MAFIASCUMMERS AND/OR THOSE WHO HAVE RECENTLY JOINED:
Please take a look at this and post your feedback. It's set up to allow for anonymity, but obviously that's not a requirement. This would help me tremendously to continue keeping the Queue as up-to-date as possible, and better it for those who join in the future.

Hey guys. Just to update you, I've been semi-V/LA while attending meets and hanging out with scummers. Quadz08 has been wonderful in updating the queue thus far, but unfortunately will have to continue doing so for the time being. I really appreciate seeing the queue progress as normal, and everyone's patience as I'm encountering some unforeseen events in my life right now. Yeah, I know, I'm an impatient brat ;-;

Basically, it's because newbie games are there for learning, while other games are simply for playing. We're making sure that we're "spreading the wealth" in newbie games, which is not a concern in other queues.
