Mini 277 - Webcomic Mafia - Game Over!

Webcomics. What greater method to waste time exists than spending however long every day reading various webcomics? They are truly the third greatest use of the internet (PM me if you want to find out the other two, I want to keep this PG-13).

However, as time goes on, some of you have figured out that you're in a webcomic. Twelve of you, specifically. You naturally decide to meet up to discuss the implications, but when you arrive at the neutral destination (One over Zero's empty canvas, chosen for its acceptance of fourth-wall-breaking conversation), you realise that some of you have decided you don't like the idea of being webcomic characters, and have set out to destroy them by killing all their inhabitants!

The rest of you must gang together to find these dissenters and erase them before you get erased yourself...

Standard rules.

1. Bold your votes and unvotes please, this makes it easier for me. they should look like this

7. Once you’re dead, you’re dead, so stop posting. Unless you want to say something with no game effect or meaning - a "bah" is just fine.

8. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread. After a player has been absent for 48 hours without posting an alert, I will prod him; 24 hours after the prod, I will look for a replacement.

9. If you have a night choice to make, please get it to me as soon as you can. In extreme delays, I will impose a deadline and simultaneously prod everyone who hasn't yet submitted a night choice. Also please state WHAT ability you are using - it makes it much easier on me.

10. Executions will require a number of votes equal to the smallest number greater than half the number of living players. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded.

11. Once the final vote has been cast, we are in twilight. You may post freely, but votes and unvotes will be ignored.

12. If you are requesting a mod prod or vote count can you Bold your request so that I can see it more clearly.

13. No Swearing. First offence by ANYONE will be punished by a severe warning and an edited post which will make you look silly. Second offence in the game will result in a modkill.

SPECIAL RULES FOR THIS GAME

Firstly, note that

mod-quoting is allowed.

To prevent any abuse of this by the mafia's part, however, I have created a sample role PM below. All role PMs follow this basic setup.

You are Mega Man, the remarkably stupid droid from Bob and George. You may not be the brightest bulb in the box, being programmed to be stupid and all, but your heart is in the right place. Plus you have an awesome gun. You know that you have to rid the webcomics of the evil people trying to take it over, and you figure your special power to absorb abilities of things you kill could be helpful. Plus it gives you a great opportunity to better yourself! Each night, you can use any one of your night actions - initially, you only have the ability to kill, but whenever you kill anyone you gain any night abilities they may have. Note you can only use one ability each night.

Confirm by PM, along with your first night choice and any questions you may have.

Minor victory condition: Have the town win.
Major victory condition: Absorb at least two abilities.

Also, everyone has TWO win conditions - a Major, and a Minor. For the most part, the Minor win condition is the standard alignment-determining one. However, this is not the case for all roles. Also, it is not always true that the Major and Minor will help each other - in some cases, playing for the Minor might make the Major harder to achieve or vice versa!

It is theoretically possible for everyone to get some victory in the same game - but it's unlikely. I'm not gonna tell you how, of course

Anyone who gets both victory types has definitely "won", by standard definition. Anyone who fails to get either has definitely "lost". However, people who get one or the other still have partial bragging rights. In general, consider it a victory if you get at least one, and all the rest are super victories or whatever.

Some roles have victory conditions which refer to the "endgame". In this game, the endgame is considered the last day of playing before the final result is certain.

He obliges. What a morbid comic this is turning out to be.

Anyway, you quickly knot the noose and slip it around Bertrand's neck. You draw straws to see who pulls the lever - while you all accept you have to kill, none of you really want to do the act. Because of this squeamishness, you all look away as the lever gets pulled...

Swish, flip, k'tunk.

You look at where Bertrand's body hangs. Uh, should hang. Strange, looks like the rope got cut somehow. And Bertrand is standing among you, whistling innocently, apparently hiding a cardboard tube behind his back...

You all wake, and return to the One Over Zero canvas, fully expecting no deaths – you’re beginning to think that maybe the whole danger is overrated.

One of the first things you see is Diedraphoenix. Man, she has a sexy body.

Wait a second. She IS a sexy body. Well, aside from the large, gaping stab wound in her chest, of course.

Shame. You thought you had a good chance with her… After all,

As you try to figure out how this happened, one of you gives out a shout. A man is lying nearby, his cardboard tube by his side. You can’t see who it is though, his head seems to have been blasted off somehow. However, the distinctive Pac-Man T-shirt makes you think it is probably

, that lovable psychopath from Penny Arcade.

Shaken by the sudden death toll, you realise just how important it is to root out the evildoers. You speculate how good it is that the unpredictable Gabe is gone, but lament the hotness that was Jodie.

Despite the growing gang of people massing around VitaminR and getting angry at him, he still seems oblivious to the threat to his life.

In fact, as far as you can tell, he's happy he's so popular.

"Look at me, guys! I'm Fighter! C'mon, surely you guys know I'm protown. Hey, anyone wanna check out my sword-fu?" he says, smiling innocently at everyone while drawing his two broadswords. Whcih seem to have chains attached to the bottom, and more broadswords attached to those... A guy could do some serious damage with those.

You step back warily, mindful of the truly lethal weapons he's holding, disarmed by his smile.

Thok quickly steps forward, uttering the words you're all thinking.









"For God's sake, why is he still alive? He's bloody annoying. Seriously, what's with him? He won't shut up about his sword-chucks, and God knows he's not smart enough to be much help to the town here. Ass."








Hang on, that's not what you were thinking.

With that, Thok raises his arms, and a familiar blue glow appears...

Suddenly, one of you screams loudly and points up to the sky, where you see Pie_is_Good floating upwards, his beautiful angel wings spread wide as he ascends to the heavens...

Oh. Wait, that's not a problem. You recognize the rougish Rumisiel, apparently going for his morning fly to clear his head.

Calmed, you walk around the nearby hill, where you see Pie_is_Good's body.

"Well, DUH!" you hear him shout from the heavens. "Where do you think I got this HARP and HALO from? Seriously, who likes halos anyway? Give me an electric guitar any day..."

Well, that's Rumisiel for you, I guess. He must be pissed off at the idea of getting those disapproving glowers from his old bosses soon...

Then someone notices the black mask under his head.

As day breaks (well, as the Author wakes), you quickly bound to your feet, eager to find the scum.

You quickly come across a short man in a long, blue robe and tall, pointy straw hat talkting to a tall man with a tiny goatee.

"Are you sure you want this?" asks the short, ugly man, seemingly quite nervous.

"I'm sure. I don't want my death to be at the hands of those ruffians." says the tall, blond man.

The short, ugly, smelly man nods, dutifully, and draws his dagger as the tall, blond, attractive man draws his rapier. Slowly, the taller of the duo draws his rapier across his throat, while the shorter stabs him rather viciously in the guts.

, falls to the floor dead. Thok, also known as

Black Mage

stands somberly over him for a moment, before sheathing his dagger with the words "I guess it's just up to me now..."

He looks around, seeing the faces of his enemies all around him. He quickly starts to gather energy in his hands...

A blue flash blinds you all for a few seconds, a few horrible seconds while you wonder who's been the victim of the terrible Hadoken attack.

As your eyes clear, you see Thok's body, lying on the floor in front of you. His hat (and head, for that matter) are nowhere to be seen.

Fuldu grins apologetically at you, his eyes fading from their laserbeam-blue glow.

"I thought it best to get him before he got us."

And with that, the well-known Caption pops up.

Well done, guys. You've defeated the scum of the webcomic world, and as soon as you're all ready, I'll transport you back home.

You're pretty sure your brother isn't around, so you can safely claim to be Elan if you so choose.

Doctor X sends in the nightkills. Should he die, this burden shall fall to you.

What you've realised, and what no-one else seems to appreciate, is that enjoying life is more important than doing good things. And what you enjoy is sowing dischord. As such, your primary aim is to make things fun, and to an extent make sure the balance in the world will remain so you can carry on making things fun without boring people making it dull or evil people killing you. You also have cardboard-tube-samurai abilities, which will protect you the first time you would die for any reason and also give you the ability to kill someone, once during the game, at night.

You're completely unkillable, thanks to bizarre and unpredictable scenarios saving you at unrealistic times, but you don't care. You want to experience everything there is in life - even things like getting killed in various manners.

You're Rumisiel, the less-than-angelic angel from Misfile. Thankfully, you do have a slight advantage in how to do this - you can use your angelic powers to stop someone from doing something at night. You are, however, a tad overeager.

You're Jodie, the slutty yet somewhat nerdish bisexual teen girl in Loserz. Despite your... outgoing exterior, you're actually quite afraid that you might not fit in, and you want to prove yourself. Of course, your method for doing this is a tad misguided, and you've found yourself thought of as all body, no brains and, worst of all, your heart is all but ignored. You want to show your friends that you're actually smart and a good person, and you figure the best way to do this is to provide a voice of reason and balance.

Interesting. At the beginning, I predicted that the most likely scum pair would be Satan (Casey and Andy) with Satan (CRFH) and possibly Lucifer (Misfile).

I could have understood Satan (C&A) as a cop (each night you may check the Book of Iniquity for one person); how did you justify her as a doc?

You are Satan, the sexy, feminine personification of all evil in Casey and Andy. Actually, that's a little unfair - you're actually quite nice, when people get to know you, and you're not above pulling a few strings to help friends out.

Town seems a touch over powered, but given that the scum can sacrifice their minor victory condition for major victory (which two of us did) that's not so bad.

Plus a number of the pro-town roles were designed to prompt "bad play" - for example, the doc never once protected the claimed cop. If you'd decided to take a chance there, the game would have gone very differently, I think.

But yeah, Pie hitting you twice early was not good for you.
