The year is 2025. In the past decade, the field of neuroscience has become incredibly popular. Corporations have devoted billions of dollars in an attempt to understand how the human brain, continuousness, and condition work - and more importantly, how they can be manipulated. One of the largest players in the field is the Aridi Corporation, a business that exploded onto the scientific scene 2 years ago when it successfully developed the ability to successfully simulate a perfect reality. In other words, Aridi was able to create a virtual world so vividly real that individuals could literally think, feel, and be characters from their conscious.

Although the research was revolutionary, Aridi was not satisfied with this breakthrough. Its scientists believed it could take its virtual world one step further - they believed they could use the virtual world to analyze and control the way humans acted and thought in reality.

The sixteen of you have been selected to be in the subjects in a pilot clinical trial on this neuroscience research by Aridi. Your past identities will be placed aside and you will be placed into a virtual world under the alias of your choosing. You will be armed with a set of unique powers and be placed in a societal arena with a single mission: to go to war. This time, however, you will posess the ability to decide in whose name you will spill blood. Will you selflessly give up your life for the good of mankind, succumb to the temptations of evil, or abandon society altogether and act of your own accord?

[General Rules]

1) All site-wide rules apply.
2) Unless your role PM permits you to do so, do not discuss this game with any player outside the game thread.
3) Do not edit or delete posts.
4) Do not post in the thread when dead. A single "bah" post with no game-related content is permitted.
5) The use of smaller-than-normal text, invisible text, or encryption tools to hide information in your posts is prohibited.
6) Do not quote any communication you have with the moderator, including timestamps. Careful paraphrasing is acceptable. Please contact me first if you are unsure of whether a post will violate this rule.
7) Inactivity kills games. Please be considerate and play the game you signed up for. If you do not post every 72 hours, you will be prodded. If you receive 3 or more prods, you may be automatically replaced without warning at the moderator's discretion. Please notify me if you will be V/LA.

Blue

is the reserved moderator color. Do not use it. Black will also be used by the moderator. It, however, is not reserved.
9) Flavor is written for your enjoyment only and has absolutely no relation to in-game alignment. Analyze it at your own risk.

[Abilities & Effects]

10) This game is nightless. It will remain open nonstop until a faction fulfills its win condition. Any players with the ability to communicate privately may do so at any time.
11) There is no standardized action cycle. All game actions will be managed through V.A.T.S., a mathematically-based points system.
12) Each action in V.A.T.S. costs a certain number of AP (Action Points) to use. You may activate abilities at any time by paying their AP cost.
13) Each player begins the game with a certain amount of AP to spend. Players can gain additional AP in various ways throughout the game.
14) You are expected to keep tabs on your own AP - however, if you lose track, you may request an official number from the moderator.
15) To use an activated ability, simply PM me the ability you wish to use and any appropriate targets. Abilities will be resolved at midnight EST every real-life day. Ties will be broken using modified NAR.
16) Some abilities resolve immediately, whereas others last a certain number of days before expiring. You can still gain AP and activate abilities even while you have an ability in effect.
17) If a player is killed, any effects that would be caused by that player's abilities end immediately.
18) You cannot use more than 5 activated abilities per 24 hour period.

"Hey, know you were asking about killing earlier?"

"Are we finally gonna get some?"

"Oh yeah. Check it out."

MagnaofIllusion was bored. He could view almost the entire landscape simply by turning around a full 360 degrees, and exploring the few nooks and crannies he couldn't see didn't seem very appealing. No, MagnaofIllusion was interested in one thing at the moment: justice. And he was going to get that by stepping on anything that got in his way.

The first thing that happened to get in his way was this thing who was calling himself "Parama." MagnaofIllusion was so annoyed with it that he decided stepping on it wouldn't be enough. This creature had to suffer. For a long, long time. "A few puffs of his breath should do it," MagnaofIllusion thought to himself, before opening his mouth for a mighty roar. "Heh heh heh."

As MagnaofIllusion bent back up and gazed at his handiwork, a feeling of illness washed over himself. "The hell?" MagnaofIllusion thought to himself. He tried to roar, but it was more strained and resistant than his normal roar. With a crack, his knees buckled as he struggled to keep his weight standing.

"Justice…I…roaaaahhh…" MagnaofIllusion rasped as his mind faded into whiteness.

*BOOM*

The earth shook violently as the mighty MagnaofIllusion toppled to the ground.

…

It was the early afternoon and Andrius was meandering around the town square. He had been trying to rabble rouse the mob earlier with some words of wisdom, but none of them seemed interested in actually doing anything, so he figured he'd try and find some orcs himself.

He approached a small, wooden hut with a thatched roof and a beat-up looking door. "Perfect," Andrius thought to himself as he unsheathed his weapon and approached the door. With a gallant cry, he raising the sword above his head and charged the door, screaming "IN THE NAME OF GONDOR, SHOW YOURSELF ENEMIES!"

Andrius blasted through the front door of the hut only to find it entirely deserted. With a sigh, he returned his sword to its sheath. There were no orcs to kill … no maidens to protect … what was the point of being a warrior of Gondor if one couldn't do warrior-like things?

Andrius turned to exit the hut. As he did however, he felt as sudden sharp pain in his feet, followed by a jerk around his navel. He looked down … and screamed in horror as he saw his body dematerializing into individual molecules in front of his very eyes. He tried to run, but crumpled to the ground instead as the rest of his body disintegrated.

His last words were, "…Gondor."

After what seemed like an eternity since the simulation first began, the sun finally began to set upon the landscape. The fourteen remaining members, who had been bickering throughout the day, convened at the town square to make their final decisions. Someone had to hang … they had to!

Benmage had staked out a tactically sound position on top of a small mound at the square. The high ground, if you would.

"Listen here," he said, trying to take command of the crowd. "I have a plan."

But the crowd wasn't interested in his plan.

"You can't control us!" UncertainKitten yelled.

"I say we lynch him!" Parama seconded.

"What?" Benmage replied, sounding shocked. "But you haven't even heard the plan yet!"

"Yeah, well I don't like it already," Parama said sarcastically. "We've been talking for hours. Why shouldn't we just kill you and get it over with?"

"My plan is GOOD," Benmage promised.

"Well, hurry up and tell us, then," DemonHybrid yawned. "I'm getting tired of waiting."

Benmage tried to explain his feelings, but the crowd wasn't buying it.

"I don't like it," Lady Lambadadelta proclaimed.

"Me neither!" Fate cried. "String him up!"

"You're all morons!" Benmage screeched. "I am one of the world's greatest military commanders. I CAN LEAD US TO VICT…"

But the crowd would have none of it. The length of the day had taken its toll - they wanted blood. With a surge, pitchforks, torches, and other primitive methods of destruction were raised and Benmage was clobbered to death.

As the crowd ravaged his body. they found nothing particularly incriminating. A search of his tent revealed nothing shocking either.

And thus a third gravestone appeared in the churchyard.

UncertainKitten was about to blow her stack. Arguing with these morons was like arguing with a brick wall. But there were a lot more of them, and it's hard to fight a lot of bricks. Fortunately, she had a few tricks up her sleeve.

UncertainKitten breathed in deeply and blinked her eyes. When they reopened, the world around her had frozen in place. Leaves sat suspended in the air, steams of water held their positions perfectly, and the people stood frozen still, like statues.

It was a moment to think. To prepare. To concentrate.

Having regained her composure, UncertainKitten closed her eyes again to warp back into real time. But this time, her eyes did not open back up. Instead, she saw only a screaming tunnel of blackness. Voices laughed mechanically in her head. Panicking, UncertainKitten tried to rewind the past hour, but her attempt was in vein. The more she tried to think, the fewer things she could think about. She desperately clawed at the air as her memories flooded out of her brain ... until there was nothing left. Just a blink later, time had restarted - without her.

DemonHybrid was walking alongside the lake. It was a nice peaceful break from the wars of the world. Suddenly, the split sound of metal echoed right behind his head. DemonHybrid spun around and found himself staring directly into the face of a hooded figure. Two silver blades stuck sharply out of their hands and pointed directly at his neck.

"...Who...who...are you?" DemonHybrid nervously, his voice shaking.

"I am you death," the figure said quietly. "Do you have any last words?"

DemonHybrid hybrid's mind raced. Quickly, however, he composed himself. There were still some tricks up his sleeve.

"Put down your weapons," his commanded, his eyes boring into the hooded figure, his voice laced with suggestive octaves.

"I don't think so," the figure responded.

DemonHybrid's eyes widened as the blades whipped through the air.

His head dropped to the ground with a thunk.

"Must be global warming, or something," Zdenek muttered. He went to the town square to participate in the evening's lynchings. When he arrived, however, the crowd had already gathered.

Something was wrong.

"Uh … hey guys," Zdenek said nervously. "You're all here early."

The crowd stared menacingly. Zdenek began to back away slowly … slowly…

He broke into a run. But he wasn't fast enough.

Dr Alexander adjusted his collar. Despite being made of stainless steel and indestructible glass, the conference room was stuffy and warm. He nervously turned to face Geoffrey Acres, the CEO of Aridi Corporation.

"So, Doctor, what's going on?" Acres asked softly but curtly, his voice laced with just the right amount of menace to be intimidating.

"Well sir," the doctor replied timidly. "We're not entirely sure."

"This is supposed to be an experiment about good and evil. Thus far, we haven't seen any evil. All we've seen are good people killing good people. Tell me doctor, where's the evil?"

"It's there, it's there, I promise. It's just … uh … well … "

"Well what, doctor?"

"We can't account for the human condition, sir. We have only limited control…"

"This is a computerized simulation, Doctor. The entire point is that we DO have full control."

"Yes, well, that wouldn't be ethical…"

"I don't care about ethics, doctor. I care about results."

"If we interfere with the natural process, this entire experiment will be for nothing! It will be a fraud!"

"Do you think this is about the legitimacy of the experiment, Doctor? For crying out loud, take your head out of the sand. We need to show the world - show the STOCKHOLDERS - that this technology works. And be damned, I'm not going to tell them, 'Well, it works perfectly fine - except you kill all your best friends."

"Yes, sir … we can start work on some potential fixes…"

"I don't want potential fixes. I want REAL FIXES. And I want them NOW."

"Yes, sir. Yes, yes…of course."

"Get out."

"Right away, sir."

Dr Alexander scurried from the conference room and into the elevator, smashing the "CLOSE DOOR" button as fast as he could. He needed to deliver results.

He needed to.

It is now Day 3.

Parama sweated nervously as he entered the combination to his vault: 13….18….5….

The door swung open with a click and a smile slid across Parama's face. Before him was the one thing in the world he cared about: Money. Sweet, sweet money. And who had it all?

He did, of course.

Suddenly, he heard a banging on the door. Parama spun around, his hands filled with cash, to see Lady Lambdadelta standing before him.

"What are you doing, Parama?" she inquired firmly.

"I'm….uh …." Parama stammered back, his teeth chattering. On the inside, however, Parama's mind was racing furiously. Who the hell was this chick, and what did she want from him? She was nosing around where she didn't ...

The idea hit him like a space rock.

"I'm selling stuff," he said confidently, standing up. "How would you like to buy this handy little … uh… revolver for … let's say … $50?"

"…What does it do," Lady Lambdadelta said, caught slightly off guard.

"It shoots people, of course," Parama replied, not missing a beat. And I've got a lot more nifty toys. Come here, take a look.

And so Lady Lambdadelta was sucked in. And so was Parama. He had found his customer. The only customer he ever needed. Over the course of the next few days, he sold Lady Lambdadelta more equipment than she could possibly carry - all for delicious cash, of course, which he kept stocked up in the safe.

Then, one day, he had enough.

Parama grabbed all his money and headed to the town square. When he arrived, the crowd was already gathered.

"I would like to make an announcement," Parama said loudly. "Please listen up."

The crowd turned to face him.

"Over the past few days, I have done many things to support this town. Unfortunately for you, it was all a lie. You are all mine now. I own you all. HehahahahahahahahaHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA," Parama cackled. "ALL MINE. MINE MINE MINEEEEE. THIS TOWN WILL BURRNNNN."

Laughing like a maniac, Parama threw the money up in the air - and with a bang, he was gone. Bills fluttered softly to the ground like dead leaves on an autumn day.

The crowd, dumbfounded, turned to Lady Lambdadelta.

"What the hell is this?" someone screamed.

"Yeah. You - YOU promised us he was safe."

"We gave all our money to a serial ... capitalist!"

The crowd moved forward. It wanted blood.

"You can't kill me!" Lady Lambdadelta responded snakily. "I'm bulletproof!"

"Yeah, well we'll see about that, someone in the crowd yelled."

*BANG*

A shot rang out, and Lady Lambdadelta crumpled to the ground. The crowd surged forward to investigate. The bullet had pieced straight through the supposedly "bulletproof" vest. Further inspection revealed a small note tucked in the pocket of the vest. It read:

"M&M Enterprises regrets to inform the user that this vest may not function as advertised. As compensation, this voucher entitles the user to a 1/100000 share of M&M Enterprises' profits, redeemable upon request of the stockholder."

Parama (Milo Minderbinder, Capitalist Inventor), 3rd Party, fulfilled his win condition and left the game Day 3!

Lady Lambdadelta (Kanade Tachibana, Resolution Manipulator) of the town committed suicide Day 3!

Tragedy didn't feel very well. "I'm sick," she complained. "Must have been something I ate."

Empking, who had been talking with Katsuki in the corner, perked up. "Let me take a look at that," he said, whipping out a needle.

"But Empking, aren't you supposed to be dead?"

"Not yet, honey. It takes a while for that to happen. In the meantime, let me cure you."

"Okay. What are you going to do?"

"I just have to stick this needle in your…uh…arm…"

"But what will that do? It's my stomach that hurts…"

"No no no. Now hush. The Doctor is at work."

Empking jabbed the full syringe into her arm at a rapid pace. Tragedy slumped over the ground, dead.

Tragedy (Akemi Homura, Time Traveller) of the town was poisoned Day 4!

Three remained in the square. Empking and Katsuki smirked at each other quietly.

"Why don't you come over here so I can check you out?" Empking said sinisterly to mb53. "See if you don't have the same … ah … disease as Tragedy did?"

"I don't think I want to," replied mb53, backing away nervously.

"But I really think you should," Empking commanded, pulling a needle out of his white lab coat. "Here, let me see your arm."

mb53, tripping on his heels, spun around and attempted to break into a run. As he picked up speed, however, he slammed into what appeared to be an invisible wall and fell down hard on his back.

"Now now," Katsuki said, "That's no way to treat the Doctor. He just wants to take a peek."

mb53 scrambled to get up, but invisible weights snaked around him and picked him up. "This will be relatively painless," Katsuki smirked, "Unless…you'd prefer my way?"

mb53 began to yell as loud as he could, but there was no one left in this world who cared.

But there were still others watching.

mb53 (Madoka Kaname, AP Gifter) of the town was endgamed Day 4!

"Well, I guess that's a wrap. Bad guys win."

"Kinda anti-climatic if you ask me. Good guys never really stood a chance."

"Yeah, well, they made some stupid moves. What can you do."

"Quite a bit?"

"What do you mean?"

"We could have made some lightning bolts of justice fly down from the sky or something … you know. Spice things up a bit."

"Hardy Har. We'd be killed. And then fired. And then killed again."

"Yep. Anyway, the data's all uploaded. Time to unplug everyone?"

"Go for it."

…

"Thank you for participating in this Aridi Corporation experiment," a cool, electronic female announced. "You may exit the room and proceed down the hall to towards the green exit sign.

Rubbing your eyes and waking up, the majority of you begin to comply. Conversation flutters among you - "I can't believe we lost! " "That was so awesome!" "What sort of compensation do you think we get?" When can we try again?!?" "Hey guys, remember the time you thought buying stuff from me was safe? HAHA." "Shut up. You're an idiot."

Two individuals, however, did not feel so energetic. Near the back of the hallway, Katsuki and Empking slouched over dizzily. Vomit poured out of Katsuki's mouth.

"I don't…feel…so…well," she said quietly to Empking.

But Empking wasn't paying attention. He grabbed a fire extinguisher off the wall and picked up his pace. Walking to the back of the line, he turned to Lady Lambdadelta and, without warning, slammed it across the back of her head and began to laugh like a maniac.

Shock rippled through the room, followed immediately by panic as the crowd surged towards the doorway.

"Empking!" Katsuki yelled. "What are you doing?"

But in that moment, Katsuki knew. A voice fluttered into her head and uttered a single word:

Kill.

With unstoppable resolve, she grabbed two pair of scissors from a desk in a side row and began to move forward with Empking. She wanted blood.

"What the HELL is going on down there," Geoffery Acres said, his bleary little eyes on the security camera.

"Um, I'm not sure," Doctor Alexander responded nervously. The experiment had already failed to produce the results Acres had wanted. This little disaster was the last thing he needed for his career. "AlmasterGM!" he barked into his microphone. "What the hell is this shit?"

"What's that?" AlmasterGM's voice crackled back over the microphone. "We just released them all. They should be coming your way no."

"They're not just 'coming,' Alexander yelled back. "They're stampeding. Two of the subjects … uh … Katsuki and Empking, have gone totally insane."

Deafening silence echoed from the microphone. "I … uh … see," AlmasterGM replied. "Let … me …. get back to you on that. One second. AlmasterGM out."

"WHAT?!" Alexander roared, slamming the intercom button. "I want an update NOW! Not LATER?!"

But the microphone had gone dead.

...

AlmasterGM grabbed his jacket off the back of his swivel chair, turned to Jahudo, Faraday, and Mina and said quietly, "we need to get the hell out of here. Now."

"What?" Faraday sputtered, vodka shooting of his mouth. "But we just finished. I want to celebrate!!"

But AlmasterGM was already moving quickly between the monitors and servers, powering each down. "Now," he said. "As in, RIGHT NOW."

"Why? Mina replied, her voice rising.

"The simulation has seeped into their real-world consciousness," AlmasterGM said back hurriedly. "They're rouge."

"What?" Jahudo replied. "What the fuck does that mean?"

"They committed so much evil in the simulation that they've lost the ability to distinguish between good and evil ... real and surreal. They think they are still the people they used to be. Now comeon, get in the elevator."

The doors shut with a quiet dinging noise and the elevator began to shoot at a rapid pace towards the ground floor.

"But...I thought that was what we specifically programmed AGAINST," Faraday said. "That was supposed to NEVER happen. Dr Alexander SWORE it."

"He lied," AlmasterGM replied. "That's why he's been so nervous this entire time. The initial experiment results were disastrous. If the good guys won, then the emerged like clones of Ghandi, but if someone ever went evil in the simulation, they came out with a drive to cause death and destruction that's second to none. It's all a total gamble."

"Then why the hell didn't you DO something about it?" Mina screeched. "You had your hands on the keyboard the whole time! You could have let the town win!"

"Dr Alexander insisted that all our previous trials were borked. He wanted a real, full trial to confirm the results. He specifically forbade me from messing with the results. He swore that if we tested it this way...this time...it would work."

"Well that didn't fucking happen, did it," Faraday said sarcastically.

"First floor," the cool, electronic female voice said. "Aridi Corporation Headquarters Lobby."

"Let's go," AlmasterGM said. "We can sort it all out later."

...

Dozens of floors up in the air, Empking and Katsuki wiped their brows and stared around their room at their handiwork. All thirteen other participants were lying on the floor, dead. Only Parama had managed to escape ... and well, "Fuck him," Empking thought to himself.

Katsuki moved towards one of the security cameras and stared intently into it, cocking her head to the side. "I know you're watching," she whispered," waving at them. "...and you're next."

...

Twenty floors up, Geoferry Acres dropped his coffee and gulped loudly. Doctor Alexander stared directly into the monitor, his face emotioness.

Empking (Dr Sheppard, Roleblocking Doctor) of the mafia survived and won the game on Day 4!

Katsuki (Morganna Mode, Artificial Intelligence) of the mafia survived and won the game on Day 4!

"This is CNN…the most trusted name in news."

"Breaking news: Aridi Corporation has declared a state of emergency after a simulator test gone wrong … in a public statement issued moments ago, the company's CEO Geoffery Acres declared that their building was on lockdown until further notice. Police have been dispatched to the location, and are attempting to clear the issue now, but have been met with resistance by Aridi Security, who apparently are under orders to keep the matter internal.

Immediately following the announcement, Aridi's market value fell by over 25%, or a whopping $90 a share. We'll keep you posted."

You're walking on a beach just before sunrise. Your feet sink softly into the sand as the warm waves splash over your ankles. The girl of your dreams is at your side, her beautiful black hair flying gently in the wind. You want to say something to her, but for some reason you can't. But you don't need to. She turns to you, puts her hand around your waist, and leans in. Her deep blue eyes gaze dreamily into yours. As your lips touch, the sun bursts over the horizon, its bright and glorious light flooding across the ocean onto the sand. The moment is bliss, pure bliss …

You awaken abruptly to the sound of your alarm buzzing. Your eyes flicker around your room searching for the girl, but all you see are beer cans, two pizza boxes, and clothing sprawled all over the floor. You groan, stumble out of bed, and slowly trod across the room. You jerk the door open, expecting to see your poorly lit dormitory hallway, but are instead greeted with a blinding white light. As you shield your eyes, you hear a laugh.

"Good morning, animorpherv1," a soothing male voice says. "My name is Dr Alexander. I'm the lead scientist of this little experiment. I'm glad to see you made it safety. We had to copy the environment of your alias into your subconscious, you see…"

As your eyes adjust, you see that this "Alexander" is a tall, blonde haired man in a white lab coat. He is standing in the center of a brightly-lit, bleached white hallway lined with dozens of other doors. You groan and slit your eyelids back shut.

“This device will contain all the information you need to know,” Alexander says, twirling the pad through his fingers. “Make sure to read it thoroughly. If you have any questions, you can contact us directly using the device.”

Alexander hands the device to you. It is weightless and its screen glows softly on your face. “Good luck, AlmasterGM of mafiascum,” he finishes. “Goodness knows, you’ll need it.”

You slam your door shut, sit down at your desk, and begin to examine the tablet. Experiment summary … waiver of liability … informed consent release … after fifteen minutes, you finally locate what you were looking for: the Subject Dossier. You eagerly tap the “open” button on the screen, and are startled to read the following…

You awaken in an empty courtroom. The scene is familiar, but no familiar faces are to be found.

“Hello?” You call out. Your voice echoes on the arched ceilings a few times before dissipating. Suddenly, you hear a door slam. You spin around in and see a figure standing in the doorway.

“Good morning, PranaDevil,” says a tall, blonde haired man wearing a white lab coat. “Or should I say, ‘Bull Shannon.’ My name is Dr Alexander. I’m the lead scientist of this little experiment. I’m glad to see you made it safely.”

Alexander pulls of his glasses and pulls a small, electronic tablet from within his white lab coat. “This device will contain all the information you need to know,” Alexander says, twirling the pad through his fingers. “Make sure to read it thoroughly. If you have any questions, you can contact us directly using the device.”

Alexander hands the device to you. It is weightless and its screen glows softly on your face. “Good luck, Bull Shannon,” he finishes. “Goodness knows, you’ll need it.”

You examine the tablet and rub your head in confusion. My thoughts:

This game was insanely challenging to design, even with Mina and Faraday helping (a million thanks to them, by the way). With 13 town and only 2 scum, the scum needed to have a really nice array of abilities in order to stand a chance. However, even with lots of options, there was still the simple problem of there being too many town. That's where the idea of the double scumkill was born...

Scumkill: Looking back, I still can't fully decide whether this was balanced or not - it allowed the scum to knock off lots of opposition and win on Day 4 (which is early), but without it, scum probably would have been screwed thanks to strong town leadership and process of elimination ... so it was a double-edged sword. Had town been able to catch just ONE of the scum early, the number of kills would have cut down by half, and that would have helped town out a lot.

Abilities: I was slightly disappointed with the way a lot of the abilities worked out. Lots of them ended up not being used and/or did not have any effect. Oh well. I thought they were fairly well-balanced given everybody had a PR. LLD and Katsuki were probably a little overpowered, with MoI and Zdneck being underpowered.

Activity: This game definitely had the burn-out effect; activity was off the charts on Day 1, and then completely died down for the remainder of the days. This really, really hurt town.

Strategy: There were missteps on both sides. Empking should have been lynched post LLD's claim, but the issue wasn't even brought up. Katsuki's use of abilities was pretty terrible - she only Rerouted once, and when she did, she let the ability go through. Reroute had the ability to get her pretty much any ability in the game .... this could have been used to devastating ends, but wasn't. Those are just two things that bugged me; I'm sure there were other little things too.

All in all, this game was really, really REALLY fun to design and moderate. It was tough at times, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Sorry to anyone who had their flavor butchered in the Role PMs...I wasn't really familiar with all the Anime stuff. I tried to read up, but it's difficult to capture the essence of a character based on the Wiki. I thought I did a decent job on the other PMs, though.

Also, were scum kills time based or AP based?

The scumkills did not use AP - they got to use them after every lynch. There was also an anti-stall mechanism built in - if town took more than 14 days to lynch, the scum got free kills. This really killed the town on D1.

FYI, Mina hates you. Your role was a lot better and Mina nerfed it over and over and over during review. At one point all you could do was Roar and vote (and Mina thought this was hilarious). Eventually I settled on lynchproof. Obviously it wasn't super useful in your case, BUT BP was a little too powerful, and I tried to design the role without regard for the player playing it. I think lynchproof is actually a pretty useful power in quite a few cases.

@MoI - The goal of this game was not always to make abilities useful. Lots of players had post restrictions or abilities that didn't do anything (Empking, for example, could write flavor). Around 75% of abilities were never even used at all. This was necessary to prevent the game from breaking in two - if just a single player were able to fire off an ability that confirmed scum, 50% of the scumteam would be gone. This sucks, but it was a reality of balancing the game design. I hoped that as long as the game was FUN, it wouldn't really matter what abilities actually did.

And yes, lynchproof is basically useless to you since you are a popular N1 NK target. However, bringing this into design opens a huge can of worms. If I account for that, then the counterbalance is to make you BP. But if I give you BP, then I have to give the scum a counterbalance like strongman to get around BP, otherwise they end up wasting one of their kills. Also, you're a good scumhunter, so I have to account for the increased number of scum you will catch if you're alive, which means giving the scum even more abilities ... you see where this is going. It's a slippery slope of balancing if you try and account for what will happen to each player in the game. From a completely objective standpoint, lynchproof has a clear application: it stops town mislynches. This is good for the town - arguably even better than some of the other powers out there (like AP Blocker, Suggestion, and the whatnot) - but not so good that it broke the game. It also fit with the flavor of Godzilla. Sorry that this ended up not benefiting you ... but not much to be done.

How you'd guys come up with my role?

You character was planned later in the design phases since you replaced somebody, so a) it couldn't have any potentially gamebreaking abilities I hadn't already accounted for and b) I was able to frame it around some already existing roles. You got Battlefield Analysis because there were vote tricks that I didn't have any checks against. You got vote manipulation because a) it's a classic flavor fit with Alexander the Great (using the enemy's position against him), b) there wasn't any vote manipulation in the game already and c) it rewarded pure scumhunting skill rather than relying on lucky targeting (also fit well with flavor).

I don't think your actual abilities were OP'd (you never even used them, did you?) The Parama thing was a doozy, but I actually put that there as a trap against Parama's role. I thought he might get greedy when he saw it, start claiming transactions with you in the thread, and then get killed by the scum (and lose). For some reason, the scum just let it go ... whatever.

Yeah, this was the BEST. I loved you for it. For some of the other animie characters ... like CSL's...I was like, "wut." I was prowling around GD looking for any information I could find, PMing Reaper Charlie, asking random people IRL if they had seen the show ... yeah.

Meh, not specifically. They were just there to be general nuisances.
