The group was separated into five subgroups and an engineer led them away, each group to their own platform. One by one they filed into their respective platforms, and each soon filled. It was an eerily silent procession.
Once locked, the platforms in unison silently rose into the sky. There were a few tortuous seconds of nothingness, then a blue light pierced the blanket of black.
An unnaturally bright blue pyramid appeared in the center of the five platforms. It slowly rotated through space, seemingly unconnected to this world. Every eye was fixated upon it, every mind felt its presence penetrating.
The pyramid pulsed once, then the platforms begin spinning circles in circles, until the whole chamber vibrated in response.
The simulation had begun.

Game Rules:

General Gameplay:

The Moderator has the final say in any dispute. Refusal to accept these decisions may be considered a modkillable offense depending on the severity. Although the Moderator may be the official voice, the Moderator is not infallible. If there is a mistake or you have a question, do not hesitate to inform the Moderator through private message or through the use of bold text within the thread.
Dark-Red
and
Indigo
are the Moderator's colors. Do NOT use them. Doing so is considered impersonating the Moderator and is a punishable offense.
Any and all communication with the Moderator must remain strictly confidential. It is acceptable to paraphrase, for actions such as role claims. If in doubt whether your paraphrase is acceptable, ask the Moderator and assume it is unacceptable until confirmed otherwise.
The use of timestamps in any way is considered quoting Moderator communication and therefore is prohibited. The order in which Role PM's have been sent has been randomized to directly combat this.
Any personal communication outside of the game thread, unless clearly specified in your role PM, is
strictly prohibited.
Do not post the links to any QuickTopics that may or may not be available within the game. Doing so is considered a modkillable offense.
Claiming to be scum, or someone's scumbuddy, is against any and all win conditions and therefore is prohibited. Either action is considered a modkillable offense.
The use of invisible, small, or encrypted text is prohibited. Use your judgment, if it is unreadable by the Moderator, it is unacceptable.
In the case of a rule contradicting a role, the role wins.
Using loopholes in the rules is considered against the spirit of the game and is a punishable offense. This does not refer to special game mechanics, merely the general gameplay rules. Example is faking a vote to trap players.
Anything it is illegal to do is also illegal to fake.
Modkills will be done in a fashion deemed most detrimental to your faction. Your faction will then be converted to
Neutral Survivor
, and as such are autolossed.

Voting, Deadlines, Death, and Activity:

As a general guideline, players should aim to post at least once every day (the more the better).
If you anticipate an extended leave from the game, inform the Moderator either in thread or through a private message.
Players who go for more than
72
hours will be prodded. If you are prodded and do not respond within
24
hours, you will be replaced.
Players receiving more than
3
prods throughout the game's entirety will be force-replaced. Replacements reset the prod counter.
A
flexible two week deadline
will be instated at the beginning of each Day.
Votes must be bolded or they will not be counted. (ex.
Vote: PlayerName
).
Unvotes must also be bolded or will not be counted (ex.
Unvote
or
Unvote: PlayerName
). Unvotes are appreciated but not required.
Shortening of usernames or the use of nicknames is acceptable in votes, but will only be counted if the Moderator can clearly distinguish which player you are voting for.
You may use a Player's Flavour Designation (ex. MS1775305) as an identification in votes.
It requires a majority of the currently available votes for a Lynch to occur. Majority is equal to half of the available votes plus one rounded down.
If players so choose, they may vote for No Lynch, and No Lynch will be reached if at least 50% of the currently available votes are placed on No Lynch.
Once the majority required for a Lynch is reached, votes are locked in place and cannot be rescinded. The same policy applies to No Lynches as well. Discussion during twilight, the period of time before the mod scene is posted, is acceptable.
If at deadline there is no majority, No Lynch will occur. If there is a tie at deadline, No Lynch will occur.
As soon as the Moderator posts your death scene, you are considered removed from the game. You may not post in the thread following this, not even a "bah." post. It is acceptable for the Lynchee to post during twilight before their lynch scene is posted.
Play to win, but remember this is a game. It is understandable to be aggressive, yet personal attacks will not be tolerated. Be considerate of the other players within the game, and hopefully enjoy it yourself!

Special Mechanics/Specifics:

This is a
Closed
Setup. I promise no Cults/Jesters/Survivors.
Any Anti-Town Faction existing within this game may
not
pass a standard ability to any of their partners, if any partners exist within the game. Nonstandard abilities may exist in the game.
If a person with an ability is killed at any point in the game, that ability is removed from gameplay.
Action Resolution follows a simplified Natural Action Resolution, with the Cycling Choice Action appended to the the end of the list. Meaning abilities will be passed after Kills resolve.

FAQ:

Q: My Role PM doesn't state any abilities!

A: Your Role PM serves only to designate to you which faction you are a part of and what your win condition is. Additional abilities will be sent in an accompanying

Ability Message

at the beginning of each Day.

Q: What should I do each Night?

A: If you are in possession of any abilities, you should send in your action. After doing so, it is also necessary to select your "cycling choice", the person you would like to pass your ability to so they can use it the next Night.

Q: When should I submit my actions?

A: You can submit your actions at any point within the Night that you have that ability. Each ability may only be used once per Night.

Q: What is a "cycling choice" and when should I submit it?

A: A cycling choice is the person you wish to send your ability to. If you have more than one ability, each ability must be sent to separate players. It is suggested that you submit your cycling choice at the same time you submit your action, but not required. It is required to submit your choice before the current Night ends, otherwise your choices become randomized.

Q: What if I control more abilities than there are players to send them to?

A: If this situation occurs, you may send more than one ability to the same person. This also applies for the situation where an anti-town factional member must send an ability to a partner to maintain a unique pass for every ability.

Q: Will my target receive notification that I passed the ability to them?

A: No, they will not receive any indication of which player sent them which ability.

All powers that are eliminated on deaths will be revealed as was done with muh316's death. An absence of mention of lost power, such as in AntB's case, signifies that they were not carrying any ability when they died.

This was answered in VoteCount 1x2 but I will restate for convenience:

If an ability is sent to a player who has died previous to receiving the ability passed to them, the ability enters what I call "the void." It may or may not make a reappearance in the game, but no further action is required from you after you submit your pass choice.

An example of situations:

Player A chooses to pass Ability X to Player B.
Player E kills Player B through some method.
Ability X enters "the void".

Using the same example, if Player B is in possession of Ability Y (a separate ability from the previous example) when he is killed, that ability will NOT cycle, rather it will be removed, as his death precludes his passing of the ability.

Note "the void" is different from removal from the game, as an ability being sent to "the void" will not be publicly announced.

A strike of colored light protruded from the central mechanism, arching towards someone's terminal. A quick scream, then silence as they were whisked away from the simulation.
Then another strike like a lightning bolt hit elsewhere, reducing the the subjects number's yet again.

The chamber echoed with the sharp noise of the two bolts, but slowly faded to silence yet again.

A slight flicker in the harsh lights of the terminals, an almost imperceptible dimming of the terminal screens.
These things whispered of the creeping darkness.

The remaining 17 continue to slave away at their processes, searching for that one glint of hope that would turn this all around.

A section of the whirling apparatus that contained the subjects tore apart from the rest. Inertia took over from there, carrying this sole unfortunate member of the experiment to his demise.

The most unnatural feature of this whole incident was the eerie absence of any screeching of metal that would indicate a mechanical failure of the system. Not a single one of the remaining sixteen doubted that this was an intentional incident.

Comments of joy and relief flooded the communication channels, congratulations passed back and forth among the surviving seven subjects.
The celebration was ended by the sudden jarring of the machine as it halted. A voice boomed from the system overhead.

"All subjects exit the test modules. Proceed in an orderly fashion towards the area designated by your assigned engineer."

The seven subjects were filed into a small area in one corner of the chamber. Some plastic film covered the walls and floor.
Once the subjects were lined shoulder to shoulder, the commanding voice came again.

"Face forward!"

The seven confused faces looked forward, seeing only a dark unopened set of double doors.
Giant powerful lights overhead snapped on, harsh white light flooding the chamber, blinding the subjects. At the same instant, the doors burst opened and a troop of guards filed through. They positioned themselves in front of the subjects, then turned to salute the seven that followed.

The Judges entered the chamber, dressed in decorative military suits. They too stopped in front of the subjects.

"Congratulations. You have survived this most crucial Experiment, and provided a great service. We will begin arrangements for your departure."

With that the Judges departed. When the last Judge had exited the chamber, the guards in unison leveled their weaponry against the subjects.

First off, thank you to all players and all the wonderful replacements who helped out throughout the course of the game. I hope you enjoyed your participation in the game.

It was interesting to see how the town's morale swung so hard after the death of RedCoyote and the first scumflip of the game. Nine straight town deaths had the town shot to hell morale-wise. But once there was one scumflip the game just fell into place for town, and the town morale shot way back up again. I think this might be saying that there is a bit of swinginess in the setup.

As my first Large Theme, (and quite complex considering the amount of resolving that had to be done), I am glad that I made no resolution or passing errors in the game. This is not to say that I didn't make mistakes (although I wish I could say that). I want to publicly apologize to popsofctown, as due to some poor comprehension on my part I prematurely posted game flavor for his faked Daykill and Loverize actions. Hopefully any mistakes that I did make ddin't cause too much pain for any of you.

Game MVP definitely goes to I Am Innocent, probably with a co-MVP of popsofctown. I don't remember which post exactly, but popsofctown managed to call the entire remaining 4/5? scum at the time, showing he had awesome reads this game. I Am Innocent did great work with his reads, (he had most of the scum team pegged as well) and heading up the MoI plan and making sure it actually got executed which did a great deal for the town. MoI and I early on felt that his plan was largely going to be ignored, making it easier for scum.

Let it be known that had themanhimself NOT stolen the Dayvig from diddin, it would have gone to StrangerCoug.

Something the scum never considered, using the Redirector to redirect the Neighborizor to themselves, "confirming" themselves. I don't think town put any serious consideration into the thought that some confirmations may have been fake.

The differing kill flavors bleeding blood/shotgunned were from different Daevori members. Shotgunned was curiouskarmadog's kills, and Bleeding Blood was StrangerCoug's. The different kill flavors would have appeared earlier had an earlier kill sent be StrangerCoug gone through.

They don't deserve to make it out of here alive, they fell for the lies too easily, they're just a detriment to society. Its up to you to purge this group, then expose this "experiment" for its true darkness. They made the wrong choice letting you in on this one.

Ability Cycling:

Besides its factional kill, the Serial Killer had a special ability known as Ability Hoarder. Upon hammering or killing a player with the factional kill, they would receive any ability the dying player had, and could select one of the available collected abilities to use in conjunction with their kill. This was why DGB was extremely hammerhappy this game. Now, DrippingGoofball discovered an interaction I had not considered, and very nearly won her the game. After purging q21, she received the Treestump as an option. Had she been left alive till Night 5, she could have then selected the Treestump as a secondary ability, making her effectively unlynchable and unkillable, and with only one Daevori alive, she would have at that point won the game. So lynching DGB the day you did was the best (and truthfully the only option) you had that day. If you review Day 5 with this situation in mind you can see that DGB's desire to live only one more day became quite apparent, and something that I reflected in the lynch flavor of that day.

As for roles, I think you guys got the gist of most of them.

For the virus, that ability did not pan out like I thought it would. It was essentially a steal from Tar's Mind Screw hot potato, but it fit in well with the mechanic. It was set to detonate 723 posts after it entered the game, or if a player failed to pass it within 75 posts they would get terminated. Had the players left it going back and forth between StrangerCoug and popsofctown Day 2, it may have very well eliminated StrangerCoug that Day. Perhaps that was poor wording on my part.
The Dayvig had exactly two shots. After the first trigger of the Virus, the ability got passed into the Ability Reuser. It did not have to come back into play Day 2, but popsofctown chose to return it to play. had he not returned it, the Dayvig would have remained active until the second shot was fired and that would have been the end of that, without returning the Virus into play.

Two roles did not really get as much use as I would have liked. Primarily the Neighborizer. It had potential for an interesting part in this game, and it fit well with the passing mechanic. Unfortunately not much went on in the thread. I think what needed to happen there was giving the Neighborhood QuickTopic Daytalk, which would have made the group more useful. The second ability was the Double voter. I wholly expected that ability to get picked the most out of the Ability Reuser, but it was not once picked, and it died early, seeing only one secret vote the whole game.

Depending on the player reaction to this Experiment, I might consider running Set x02. But for now its back to the drawing board in regards to the scum portion of the mechanic, because its apparent that it is probably the weakest link of this mechanic. I don't think I'll be posting a full action list (there were a lot), but I can answer questions you guys have. That's all I have for right now, maybe more in the morning.

@Vi, I did answer about the source, I think maybe Furcolow might have picked it up and you didn't check it.

The flavor is all original. I originally planned to have an actual complete story, but never found the time and just slowly formulate the next section as the game progresses.
