The Illusion

Part I - Creation


"Director, the Host is ready. Preparing direct line."

The facility was a flash of pure white; crisp, clean, sleek, and numerous other adjectives. Seven people lay in what are perhaps best described as white coffins without lids, hooked to numerous sensors. They were shackled in, awaiting the beginning of the Experiment. Standing watch over them was a tall, thin woman holding a clipboard; her long, fiery red hair providing a stark contrast to her pure white lab coat.

"Director, direct line ready. Stabilizing subjects."

She pushes a button on a nearby console. An odd, purplish fluid flows through some tubes into the seven subjects.

"Subjects ready. Prepared for transfer."

On the other side of the room, sitting at a desk surrounded by screens, sits a middle-aged man. He thanks the woman as his finger hovers over the large, red button on his desk.

"Ladies, gentlemen, we stand here on the dawn of a new age. The new wave of entertainment; a vacation into the vast, unused brainspaces of the modern man. Begin the experiment!"

He pressed the button.

The coffin-beds tilted as a large needle protruded from the wall. The needle pressed through the skull, directly and deep into the brains of the subjects.

You are the subjects. It feels as if you're being sucked through an impossibly thin tube. The pain is immense. You black out as you feel the last of yourselves slip away...

D-D-Don't Don't Stop the Rules


Actions n Stuff:


1) The primary directive of The Illusion Experiment is increasing the enjoyment people experience in their day-to-day lives. Have fun.
2) The Director's word is law. The Director reserves the right to change these rules at any time, with the exception of rule #1.
3) All communications with the Director must be taken to private messaging channels.
4) Place all votes in the format of
Vote: X
. You do not need to unvote before changing your vote.
5) Do not quote any information you recieve over private messaging channels from the Director. Failure to do so will result in your expulsion from The Illusion.
6) Do not discuss The Illusion while you are outside of The Illusion. You will be taken offline and severe "disciplinary action" will be taken against you and your closest family members.
7) If you have been taken offline from The Illusion, you may not have any communications with the people still inside The Illusion.

The Reward is More Deadlines (PLEASE READ, VERY IMPORTANT!):


8) Each game day will have automatic two-week deadlines. Extensions will be granted on a case-by-case basis.
9) If no majority has been reached at deadline, the person with the plurality of votes will be lynched. There is no no-lynch.
10) You must post at least once every 48 hours. You will recieve a prod if you do not. You will have 24 hours after the prod to post in-thread, since that will have made 72 hours since your last post. Failure to do so will result in an alternate being brought forth to replace you in the experiment.
11) Extended (more than 48 hour) leave must be declared via private messaging channels to the Director.
12) Night phase will have a deadline of no more than 72 hours. No submission will result in no action.

Wild Setupberries (MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE PREVIOUS!):


13) This game was designed based on a random design principle. All roles have been chosen randomly from a list of 24 possible roles. Vanilla is on the list thrice.
14) Alignments have been assigned to roles randomly. Everyone has been given a 1 in 3 chance of being mafia.
15) If there is no mafia in the game, the game will go on until it can no longer continue.
16) If the game would have more than 2 mafia, the mafia has been split into factions which may or may not include serial killers.
17) Any mafia consisting of at least 2 does not have a kill unless they have drawn a killing role.
18) If at any point after day 1 the town feels that there is no mafia within the game, they may vote to end the experiment. If there are any anti-town forces still alive at that point, the town loses.

Town Win Condition wrote:You win when any anti-town forces are dead (should they exist).

You all awaken, in a meadow. You take a look at your surroundings. The sky is a deep, deep purple, and the grass beneath your feet is a silver-blue. Near you is a river of translucent, greenish water; it flows towards a large cliff, which goes down as far as the eye can see. In front of you are seven houses, and a screen; towering above them all is a tower, which appears to be filled with sand.

GREETINGS. I AM THE COMPUTERIZED ASSISTANCE TERMINAL, OR CAT. ME-OW.

I WILL BE YOUR GUIDE IN THE ILLUSION. IT IS BELIEVED THAT THERE MAY BE A BREACH IN THE ILLUSION'S SYSTEMS, LEADING TO A POTENTIAL HIJACK OF THE HOST. EMERGENCY PROTOCOL 7 HAS BEEN INITIATED. BEGINNING INSTRUCTIONS.

ANYONE AMONGST YOU MAY BE ONE OF THE HIJACKERS. UNFORTUNATELY, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE DIRECTOR TO DETERMINE WHOM. YOU MUST ALL WORK TOGETHER TO DECIDE WHOM THE HIJACKERS ARE. I was wondering whether he really randomized alignments in this game, or just wanted to run an all-town game... probably the latter, but only he knows.
It was the first. I had screenshots, but I lost them in the computer move. Shame, really. Was disappointed with the way the setup turned out and almost re-randomized, but that would have ruined the point.

Yeah...

I'd have re-rolled.
But then it wouldn't be random, it would be "random until I got what I wanted", which wasn't the point - the point was overall to see if a game with entirely random roles was playable, and the same for alignments. I think it still has potential in the right hands (i.e. not mine).
