Mini 1041: Wheel of Fortune Mafia (Game over!)

Post Post #0 (isolation #0) » Sun Aug 29, 2010 5:12 am

Look at this studio, filled with glamorous... Mafiosi!?

Yep. Can you believe the show has been on the air for over 35 years if you count the daytime run, and the producers
STILL
haven't thought to get rid of the things that make it Wheel of Misfortune to two out of every three contestants? They're not doing anything about it, and the contestants are being brainwashed into accepting these risks, so it's time for the rest of Studio 11 to fight back! Money, trips, and cars for everybody!

But is Lady Luck on their side? Will the elements of misfortune be eliminated, or eliminate everything else and drive the show off the air? Only time will tell...

Spoiler: ALIVE (2/12)
CSL, who replaced Tasky, who replaced Me=Weird, who was the
red contestant's podium, a vanilla townie
, has survived the endgame.
Reckamonic (hydra of dramonic and xRECKONERx), who replaced dramonic, who was the
contestant backdrop, a vanilla townie
, has survived the endgame.

Spoiler: DEAD (10/12)
Xite91, who was the
puzzle board, a vanilla townie
, has been lynched on Day 1.
Charlie, who was a
Mystery wedge, a one-shot insane doctor
, has been thrown away on Night 1.
curiouskarmadog, who was
Vanna White, a mason
, has been crushed by a studio light on Night 1.
Prof. Guppy, who was the
Lose a Turn wedge, a Mafia goon
, has been driven to suicide on Day 2.
Oman, who was the
Bankrupt wedge, a Mafia roleblocker
, has been driven to suicide on Day 3.
FakeGod, who was a
Mystery wedge, a one-shot insane doctor
, has been made into confetti on Night 3.
Tazaro, who replaced jmj3000, who was the
yellow contestant's podium, a vanilla townie
, has been lynched on Day 4.
Wisteria, who replaced brianj, who was
Pat Sajak, a mason
, has been fired on Night 4.
PieMan, who was the
$5,000 wedge, a vanilla townie
, has been torn in half on Night 5.
yabbaguy, who was an
incorrect letter guess, a Mafia goon
, has been lynched on Day 6.

RULES
  1. This is a closed setup, which means the only roles you will know in advance are your own and that of any other player I mention in your role PM. All other role information is secret, including how many players with a certain role exist and even if the role exists in the first place. Yes, a game with absolutely no vanilla townies is possible. It's been done before.

  2. The preferred voting method is to put vote tags around the player's name, but I will still accept the old method of bolding the word "vote" followed by said player's name, e.g. VOTE: StrangerCoug or
    Vote: StrangerCoug
. As long as I can tell to whom you are referring, spelling does not count and I will accept abbreviated or otherwise shortened forms of the name of the vote's recipient. If you change your mind about whom you want lynched, you must post the unvote tags or bold an unvote, preferably in the format UNVOTE: StrangerCoug. You may also VOTE: No Lynch, unvoted the same way as before.

  3. A majority of votes is required for a lynch, even at deadline. Once a lynch has been decided, it is final and further votes and unvotes do not count for the current day. If deadline is reached with no player having enough votes for a lynch, the day ends in an automatic No Lynch.

  4. Once you die, I'll allow one "bah" post that doesn't contain any game-related content if you wish to make it, but you must thereafter stop posting in the game. Said "bah" post is the only post a dead player may make during twilight. Living players may continue to talk during twilight as long as they follow all of the rules.

  5. You are not forced to like each other, but the fact that you badly want so and so offed does not give you the right to insult him or her. Please keep your hatred of people or groups thereof to yourself. Profanity is not in and of itself banned, but if it gets out of hand, it falls under this rule.

  6. Do not hide text or otherwise hinder its readability by using spoiler tags, invisible or encrypted text, etc. You may, however, post in any color that can be easily read against the forum background other than
    purple
    or
    spoilered cyan
. (I know it sounds arbitrary to forbid a specific color, but I'm saving my favorite color, purple, for mod use since I am the mod :P The backup mod below asked me to forbid his color too.)

  7. Impersonating the moderator is prohibited.

  8. Unless you're the moderator (that's me, obviously), co-moderator (that's nobody), or backup moderator (that's animorpherv1) of this game, please do not delete or edit any posts in this thread.

  9. You are not allowed to discuss this game outside of the thread unless I tell you otherwise, nor are you allowed to discuss other ongoing games in this thread.

  10. Do not quote or pretend to quote any private communication, either from me or from anyone else you are allowed to talk with at night. This includes your role PM. You are allowed to paraphrase, but you are not allowed to plagiarize. If in doubt as to your paraphrase's legality, PM me with the wording you want to use.

  11. Claiming to be scum with someone else is prohibited.

  12. I will issue a prod to any player that does not post for 72 hours without notifying me of his or her absence. (I'm sorry, but I do not check the V/LA thread.) If you are prodded, you will have 48 hours from the time of submission to post in thread. Failure to do so may result in replacement. Keep in mind that I have the board time down to the second. I will only prod the same player twice—after that, he or she must post every 72 hours to ensure that he or she remains in the game.

  13. The fastest and preferred way to get ahold of me is by PM'ing me, but you may also communicate to me in thread if it is day or twilight and you are still alive. To do so, bold "Mod:" followed by what you want to tell me, as in
    Mod: Please prod StrangerCoug
    or
Mod: StrangerCoug should have five votes, not four.
Please use your judgment call in whether or not what you want to tell me should be public knowledge before talking to me in the thread. In additon, I will not entertain questions regarding possible night actions, nor will I answer questions about a person's role unless you happen to be the person in question and you ask me privately.

  14. Rule violations will be dealt with case by case based on severity. This can be a warning (of which I will only give two per player), ejection from the game, or even a modkill. Modkills are not a fun experience for anybody—the players affected automatically lose, I do it in the manner that I consider most harmful to their factions, and I die on the inside every time I have to do it.
    PLEASE
save all of us the pain and be on your best, rule-abiding behavior.

  15. I am not God. If I make any mistakes whatsoever, please let me know.

  16. All rules are subject to change. In my previously modded games, things have come up that I didn't think about, and both my own and other's actions in those games have helped shape and modify these rules. It may happen again here.

  17. The most important rule of all, saved for last for what I think is a very good reason:
    HAVE FUN!
    Enjoy! And good luck!
For the sample role PM, StrangerCoug wrote:StrangerCoug, you are a
$300 wedge, a vanilla townie
. The lowest value on the wheel, you're not worth much, but hey, $300 is more than nothing :P

You have no gun, no badge, no first-aid kit, no magic thingamajiggers, absolutely nothing special except for three things—The audience cheering you on, your brain, and voting abilities. But those three things are all you need to spin your way to victory!

You win when all threats to Stage 11 have been eliminated from the game.

Please PM me back acknowledging that you understand and confirm your role. The thread is here and you are playing a day start.

You decide that the game would be better off without that particular something that refuses to reveal itself, which happens to be... the
PUZZLE BOARD!?
Seeing as that's the major element of the show other than the wheel itself, you might as well be playing a variant of
Press Your Luck
. And you've pressed your luck a bit too far today.

Xite91, who was the
puzzle board, a vanilla townie

You're standing backstage, waiting for the next episode to start, however the heck we're supposed to get by without a puzzle board. Makeshift one with a chalkboard? Have people hold up paper signs? Heck if we know.

You notice something sticking out of the trash, and upon closer inspection, it's a Mystery Wedge. Curious, you attempt to take it out to see what's on the other side, but a stagehand interrupts you.

"No touching!"

"I just wanted to—" you start to say.

"I said no touching!" the stagehand repeats in an angrier voice. "Have you forgotten what they taught you in elementary school?"

Suddenly, you hear a crash coming from the stage. You run out to see what has to be replaced. Two things, it turns out: a studio light and your letter lady. Studio lights are heavy things, and one came crashing down, killing our beloved Vanna, who was always a talkative lady in the last part of the show. You clean up the mess, mourn her loss, and decide it's not just the money. The elements of misfortune want something else entirely! But whatever it is, you have to stop it, and soon.

Charlie, who was a
Mystery Wedge, a one-shot insane doctor
, has been thrown away on Night 1.
curiouskarmadog, who was
Vanna White, a mason
, has been crushed by a studio light on Night 1.

It's Day 2 with 9 alive and 5 to lynch. Go.

You spot it—the Lose a Turn wedge. You run to get the paint from the art department so you can change it to a dollar value, but when you come out, you find that Lose a Turn has grown legs and run as fast as it could out of Stage 11. Since having a solid-colored wedge is boring, you debate what value it should be. $300? Too many of those already. $600? That sounds better.

No more of the boring old white wedge making the game itself boring by turning it into the waiting game.

Prof. Guppy, who was the
Lose a Turn wedge, a Mafia goon

You come back into Stage 11, look around, and... don't notice anything out of the ordinary that wasn't already. Lose a Turn is still off the wheel. You still have no Vanna and no puzzle board. You know that at least one of the Mystery Wedges is missing; whether the other wedge is still around or was also missing to begin with remains unknown for sure to you. It looks exactly the same way you left it!

Nobody has been killed on Night 2.

You find the Bankrupt wedge on the wheel and yank it off (well, actually, it yanked itself off), and you celebrate since everything that you could possibly land on on the wheel is now a dollar value or prize. Or so you think.

"We still have a scumbag!" you hear a stagehand shout. You've been partying too soon!

You put away the cake and wonder. Bankrupt's gone; Lose a Turn is gone; what else could there be?

You find a bunch of very small bright indigo squares scattered all over the floor. It can't have been the Mystery wedge you saw in the trash on Night 1 since you saw it get taken out on Night 2, so this must be the other one. You sweep up the mess and go on.

What could that other show element keeping people from winning be? You apparently decide that fewer contestants would work well since you're not competing against as many people, so you pull the yellow contestant podium out, leaving the more established red and blue (if they're both there). It doesn't prove effective, unfortunately.

You overhear one of the producers having a conversation with somebody.

"...for 29 years, and we've decided the show's best off with someone else," the producer says.

"I don't understand why you're doing this," you hear Pat Sajak say, "but if you want me to take my business elsewhere, I very much will." He abruptly leaves the back room and goes out the studio door. He's noticeably upset, but he figures that if he keeps his cool, he may get another chance. But it won't be here.

You find two shiny silver things on the stage. You pick one of them up, look at it, and at first are shocked.

"What's so exciting about $50?" you ask everybody. "Didn't we get rid of that decades ago? Not long after we started, if I remember correctly?"

"You might want to look at the bottom edge of what you're holding there, sir," someone else tells you.

You do, and notice that that edge doesn't have that clean 15° arc. In fact, the bottom edge is irregular. You look behind you and see the piece with the other two zeroes, forming the famous $5,000 wedge that you've come to love for 27 years. And they can't be put back together right now—what a shame.

The end is near. What will come of this?

PieMan, who was the
$5,000 wedge, a vanilla townie
, has been torn in half on Night 5.

You find it—the one last thing Wheel of Fortune players have to worry about, guessing a wrong letter. Nothing can stop Wheel of Fortune contestants from winning any money anymore! Everybody gets rich!

You lose yourself in the excitement knowing that the elements of misfortune are gone. A party happens on Stage 11, the one you were about to have when you send the Bankrupt wedge running, and it seems to go all night. You got them all...

brianj, you are
Pat Sajak, a mason
. You, along with your co-host Vanna White (curiouskarmadog), are the people that make this show go! You two always have something to say at the end, too.

I have made a QuickTopic thread where you may discuss the game here. You may speak with each other in this thread from now until Day 1 starts to discuss strategy. You may not talk to each other outside of the thread during the day. You know each other to be innocent.

You win when all threats on Stage 11 have been eliminated from the game.

Please PM me back acknowledging that you understand and confirm your role. The thread is here and you're in a day start.
Charlie, you are the
Mystery Wedge, a one-shot insane doctor
. What's waiting for the player whom you visit: $10,000 or Bankrupt? Well, we'll never know until you flip over, now will we?

Each night, you may PM me the name of one player you would like to protect. In the 50% chance that your protection works, any attempt to kill that player will fail. You are not allowed to protect yourself. Be careful, though—the 50% of the time your protection doesn't work, you will kill your target instead.

Another player may have an identical role as you; if that is the case, then one of you is actually a one-shot
SANE
doctor while the other one of you is a one-shot vigilante.

You win when all threats on Stage 11 have been eliminated from the game.

Please PM me back acknowledging that you understand and confirm your role. The thread is here and you're in a day start.
(MOD NOTE: Charlie is actually a vigilante.)

dramonic, you are the
contestant backdrop, a vanilla townie
. Nice view out there, but they're going to set up a gallows pole in a minute, just like the show's predecessor.

You have no gun, no badge, no first-aid kit, no magic thingamajiggers, absolutely nothing special except for three things—The audience cheering you on, your brain, and voting abilities. But those three things are all you need to spin your way to victory!

jmj3000, you are the
yellow contestant's podium, a vanilla townie
. People stand behind you while you keep score. Yeah. Your job's not that exciting.

Oman, you are the
Bankrupt wedge, a Mafia roleblocker
. You, along with your partners in crime the Lose a Turn wedge (Prof. Guppy, who is a goon) and an incorrect letter guess (yabbaguy, who is also a goon), are some of the biggest obstacles keeping players from winning. It's only fitting that you're together to do evil,
AND
you like taking hits on people's wallets. You little scoundrel, you...

Each night, I need you to decide on a player whom you want to kill, if any, and which of you will PM me the hit. In addition, I need you specifically to tell me whom, if anybody, you would like to roleblock. If your roleblock target has a night action and attempts to use it that same night, it will fail. You will repeat this process until the end of the game or you die, whichever happens first. You are not allowed to nightkill yourself or your partner, nor are you allowed to roleblock yourself (you
ARE
, however, allowed to roleblock and kill on the same night). If you decide to forego your kill and/or if you decide not to roleblock anybody, it'd be nice if I know.

I have made a QuickTopic thread where you may discuss your night actions here. You may speak with each other in this thread from now until Day 1 starts to discuss strategy. You may not talk to each other outside of the thread during the day.

You know that you can replace your user name in the below with anybody else's and still be unable to get a role that really exists:
Oman, you are the
Prize Puzzle, a jack of all trades
. In the actual show, you win trips from these things; here, you can be a bit manipulative (or just find out stuff about something else on the stage).

Each night, you may investigate somebody (I will tell you whether that player is innocent or guilty to you), protect somebody (any attempt to kill that player will fail), or roleblock somebody (any attempt by that player to use a night action will fail). You are not allowed to use the same ability more than once, nor are you allowed to use said abilities on yourself.

You win when all threats on Stage 11 have been eliminated from the game.

Please PM me back acknowledging that you understand and confirm your role. The thread is here and you're in a day start.
You win when all players on Stage 11 are the Mafia or nothing can prevent the same.

PieMan, you are the
$5,000 wedge, a vanilla townie
, but one of the most exciting wedges in the game. Don't we all wish we got paid that much a letter for being such a good Hangman player?

You have no gun, no badge, no first-aid kit, no magic thingamajiggers, absolutely nothing special except for three things—The audience cheering you on, your brain, and voting abilities. But those three things are all you need to spin your way to victory!

. You, along with your partners in crime the Bankrupt wedge (Oman, who is a roleblocker) and an incorrect letter guess (yabbaguy, who is a goon), are some of the biggest obstacles keeping players from winning. It's only fitting that you're together to do evil.

Each night, I need you to decide on a player whom you want to kill, if any, and which of you will PM me the hit. In addition, I need Oman specifically to tell me whom, if anybody, HE/SHE would like to roleblock. If HIS/HER_01 roleblock target has a night action and attempts to use it that same night, it will fail. You will repeat this process until the end of the game or you die, whichever happens first. You are not allowed to nightkill yourself or your partner, nor is Oman allowed to roleblock himself (he

Xite91, you are the
puzzle board, a vanilla townie
. You have the power of voicing your opinions in big, black-on-white lettering. Need to say something more than 52 characters long? You've been able to change what's on you instantly since 1997.

yabbaguy, you are the
Million Dollar wedge, a vanilla townie
, if a hard one to get. People have to land on you (and you're only one space wide as opposed to almost everyone else's three), then they have to dodge Bankrupt for the rest of the game,
AND
they have to spin you up in the Bonus Round and get the puzzle right. Until then, you're just card stock or whatever the heck they use.

MOD NOTES
  • I must admit that I shouldn't have put this game in the queue without having my reviewers confirm they liked it. I still think that treating the Mystery wedges as a second set of masons was a mistake for them to make, but the Mafia missing their Night 2 actions and two Mafiosi self-hammering Days 2 and 3 messed them up enough to swing it back to town. It got to three-player LYLO, so apparently it neutralized out, but I think I unbalanced this toward town
  • If he had been keeping his signature current, you broke Prof. Guppy's perfect Mafia record. I don't think he's going to be happy...
