Orsova
The chill moonlight wind blows softly over snow laden peaks, carrying a soft moan of despair as starving wolves howl against the light. The hard village of Orsova clutches tightly to the cliffs, the only rail out of town broken in a roar of deadly white. Gas lamps flicker, fearful of the shadows, and the peasants bar their doors and cower, clutching the thin remnants of their own sanity. In the graveyard old ground shudders, broken from below as ancient evil climbs from the sarcophagi, glinting fangs and desperate hunger. The scent of frozen death sings through Orsova, an omen of nights to come.

Game Play and Netiquette
  1. Participation in this game is a commitment and a responsibility. Please take it seriously and be considerate to others. If you plan to be gone longer than 48 hours, please post a bolded notice in the thread.
  2. Everyone deserves respect. Personal attacks will not be tolerated. These include disparaging comments on race, religion, age, gender, orientation, or similar characteristics. I will only moderate politeness in the thread for extreme situations, but keep in mind it’s just a game and act accordingly.
  3. This is a closed game. Roles, private messages, and so forth may be quoted as desired; however, links may not be. Very small, invisible or encrypted text is not allowed.
  4. Players will receive acknowledgement that night actions are received and will be notified of success or failure at the end of the night if they are still alive. No further information will be given unless the action specifically yields it (for instance, a cop’s investigation).
  5. Players should not discuss the game in any way outside the thread unless the mod specifically allows it, and then only in the quicktopic linked in the message, which will be publicly linked after the game.
  6. This game will start with a Day phase; Nights are 72 hours long, during which the thread will be locked. Any actions not submitted will be missed; any player or faction with an ability may choose not to perform it.
  7. Players should aim for one post every 48 hours, minimum, to keep the game moving.
  8. Days have three week deadlines. Extensions are given only in extreme circumstances.


Voting, Deadlines and Death
  1. More than half of all living players must vote on one victim for a Lynch to occur.
  2. Votes should be bolded and unambiguous or they may not be counted, and should be in the format
    Vote: PlayerName.

  3. Vote revocations should be bolded or they may not be counted, in the format
    Unvote: PlayerName
    or
    Unvote
    ). Unvotes are not necessary before changing votes, but are appreciated.
  4. You may
    Vote: No Lynch
    - a majority of these vote types will end the day without a lynch.
  5. If a simple majority is not reached at the deadline the result will be determined by the largest number of votes. If there is a tie, or the game in a lynch-or-lose situation, the result will be counted as a No Lynch.
  6. Once players have reached a majority no further voting will be counted for that day. After this point and before the end of the day – “twilight” – discussion may continue, including the victim. I usually post the final count a few hours before revealing the victim’s role, to allow for any last minute corrections (which will have to be sent via PM, as the thread will be locked). After that, I will add the player’s faction and a brief approximation of their role.
  7. Dead players may not post within the game thread.
  8. Town wins when all other factions are dead.


Mechanics
  1. Blue
    text is reserved for Moderation commentary, and will be used for all moderator comments inserted into player posts. No invisible or small text is allowed.
  2. Vote counts will be posted regularly – usually once per page, or once per actual day. A count will be posted sooner if requested, but don’t abuse the privilege.
  3. Italicized flavor text is just flavor text.
  4. The mod does not lie. He does, however, periodically leave players to struggle with interpretation or founder under assumptions.
  5. If you have an issue with the game, please message me privately. The game thread is not a forum for complaints.
  6. I may make mistakes, and I appreciate being politely notified. Mistakes will be corrected where possible, but sometimes mistakes are made that cannot be reversed. These will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
  7. Please bold any comments requiring my attention.
  8. Inactive players will be prodded after three days without posting. A player who has been prodded three times may be replaced without further notice. If I fail to notice an inactive player, please notify me. I have little tolerance for lurkers - you have been warned.
  9. Rules violations will be dealt with according to their severity, up to and including a Modkill. Modkills will not take the place of any normal game mechanics.
  10. Any situation not explicitly covered above is subject to moderator discretion and will be handled as I see fit on a case-by-case basis.

Couple bits of info:
-The traitor didn't know the other scum, but knew they existed; the other two weren't aware there was a traitor. The setup didn't really anticipate they would ever connect, and that a cross kill or lynch was fairly inevitable.
-Yes, fake claims were provided (one each vanilla, Angry Mob and doctor)
-IMO the game was a runaway town victory until Ooba's fake day vig; it collapsed the wagon on SpyreX and gave her a town appearance, both of which carried the rest of the game.

Intended subtexts:
-The Angry Mob had to coordinate with each other, but without a claim (as the doc and RB would shut them down).
-The traitor had to try to identify himself to the scum, or at least stay out of their way, and to try to predict the Mob kill.
-The spiritualist had to clarify the setup without revealing her role.

Yeah, traitor doc was basically a cloak and dagger v. the vig's. And they were potentially powerful with claims, but I expected a godfather with a fake claim and a miller vig would have made things less clear.

As for the claims, sorta kinda. I expected the Tailor claim, with its random and out of character modern Disney tie-in, to stand out as the least likely, and that was intentional to prevent a flavor claim from breaking the game. Initially the Lord was given the Cobbler role as a fake claim, and the Dragoon was a real vig, but I switched them last minute 'cause I felt that the Cobbler might stand out as a non-combatively inclined role. I was very surprised when it was identified as a fake.

As for Mira's FC, it was a sort of WIFOM after the RB's (like the tailor, the executioner was intended to sound questionable flavor-wise) and the other vanilla PMs. I'm not really sure what stood out about it to make it seem FAKE though.

So overall, yes, rather than sticking to a pattern that might not be perfect I intentionally tried to overlay a false pattern that couldn't be used effectively.

Not sure if such a thing has ever been used here before, but I have used the role before on another site. I really like it 'cause it makes the vig ability (which is nice for removing anti-town) a lot less swingy (note that nobody targetted scum until N3).

Glad you liked the Spiritualist. I'd been pondering ways to keep dead players involved in the game, and it seemed like a nice method of doing that while also helping to clarify the setup for town, which is always a source of confusion. Other than that, the main ability is the potential to become a proven townie nigh-instantaneously.

I have to ask the scum - what was your reaction to hearing that the dead were still in the game? I was hoping it would be a nice curveball for ya.

As for confirmable roles, yeah: the three Mob and the Spiritualist, and the Cop to a lesser degree. The Lord started with knowledge of the Mob, though, so I anticipated they'd be hunted as they tried to communicate with one another. But Mob wasn't at all a sign of innocence IMO; otherwise SpyreX would have been completely golden, and he barely survived even with an Innocent investigation. The issue there was partly play, though, and very much not keeping his fake claim in mind during the first two days, imo.

Speaking of, I found it really funny that 1) there was any doubt at all that fake claims were provided when there was no sample vanilla and every role was different and 2) people took breadcrumbs so seriously. 3) in a game with quotable PMs anyone thought they couldn't fake PMs from me.
