I can understand the issue, and even thought on how to make it work in forum. How about I randomly select from any one that submits in the first 24 hours; if you submit in the second 24, you don't have a chance.
If the issue with the speed bonus is that it rewards luck, wouldn't a random bonus be even worse?

Yes. It would. Someone could be online at the exact time the acronym gets posted and think for 24 hours straight and come up with some aMaZiNg just before the first 24 hours expires. Just keep the original rule imo.

fake edit: just make it a bonus which only applies if the player wins. So they need to get the largest number of votes and also have submitted first.

I was also gonna go for a TSQ themed one but decided against at the last minute.
