Mini 839 -- Mafia Invasion! (Game Over)

"Don Coyote," the gentleman prefixed soothingly, "they've been dropped off."

The Don reclined back steadily and pondered his situation. The plan was in action. His forefathers would've surely been proud of the way he handled this. It would have never been a problem for him to just order them taken out himself, but an ingenious idea is hard to pass up on. There was one way to stay ahead in this business, one golden rule, that you don't get your hands dirty unneccesarily. What better way to get rid of a problem then by convincing someone else that your problem is their problem? He held out a sheet of paper, a print out from his computer,

"Take this," the Don added, "feed it to the pigs, the newsmen... tape it on everyone's door. I want every citizen in that town out for

Voting
-
Votes must be in
bold
, clear context (
Vote: RedCoyote
/
Vote: No Lynch
). This is your power, we both want it to be counted fairly, so try to make it so there's no question who you are voting and unvoting. Unvotes must also be in
bold
and are necessary before changing a vote (
Unvote
). I will be strict about counting votes this way to ensure everyone has a clear understanding of what does and does not count as a vote. There will be no tolerance for vote tricks, please do not try to play with any technical aspect of this rule.

Lynching
-
Once a player is lynched, the game will go into "twilight", and the fate of the town has effectively been sealed for that Day phase. The town, as well as the player who has been lynched, is welcome to continue to talk until I officially bring the game into the Night phase. The town
must
come to a concensus before the deadline in order for a lynch to go through. Ties will not be broken by me, no matter which wagon formed first. If the town cannot reach a majority or break a tie before the deadline, the Day phase will end without a lynch. This town has the option not to lynch, provided it meets the required simple majority of votes.

Deadlines
-
All deadlines are subject to extension should the need arise. Every Day phase has an initial two week deadline that may be extended once either by means of a simple majority of players or by my disgression. By contrast, every Night phase has a firm 72 hour, or three day, deadline.

Absence, Prods, and Replacements
-
If you are unable to post for a period of longer than 72 hours, please inform me by PM or make it clear in the game thread. All players have a right to know whether or not a player is absent, and any player who informs me of a future absence will be noted as such. Prods will take place at the request of the players in the game as well as at my disgression. If a player receives a prod, they have exactly 48 hours from the time of that prod to show activity before a request for a replacement will be made. At that point, whomever claims the player slot will then become the person playing the game.

Night Actions
-
I will accept any and all actions submitted to me pre-Night phase, but be forewarned, once a decision is made it cannot be undone except under specific circumstances (e.g. replacements or Moderator kills). If no night action is submitted to me before the end of the Night phase, the player is assumed to have slept through the night, and no action will take place.

Prohibitions
-
To help ensure a fair, balanced, and fun game, it is prohibited to talk to other players outside of this thread unless you are given specific instructions on how to do so. All players who have been lynched, killed, or otherwise removed from the game are prohibited from making any new posts or talking with any of the living players about the game until the game has been declared over. Respecting tradition, "Bah!" posts are expected, but you must respect the boundries of the game. It is prohibited from quoting or paraphrasing any Mod PMs for any purpose other than to reasonably claim and explain one's powers. It is prohibited to use invisible text, small text, or to otherwise edit your post in anyway. It is prohibited to use the color
red
in order to make sure there are no quarrels over what is and isn't an edit that I have made. I will only be using the color
red
in edits. Any form of trolling, misbehavior, or poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated and is hereby prohibited.

Questions and Concerns
-
Do not be weary of asking me for any assistance in understanding any aspect of this game. If anyone spots any mistakes I may have made, please do send me a PM. You may expect a response within a maximum of 48 hours. If there is anything else you feel I have not covered, or have not covered adequately, please point it out to me.

Thank you
-
Thanks to SpyreX and OhGodMyLife for helping me with the setup. SpyreX is the game's official back-up Moderator. If anything happens to me, he has all of the role PMs and who they belong to. Thanks to everyone for signing up, and I hope everyone has a good time.

Y.C has asked for a replacement due to the unforeseen circumstances he referenced in post 80. I have already had two people show interest in replacing into the game, so the transition will take place as soon as I can make contact.

Vote count mechanic stolen from playing under Vi as Mod (<3), the strikethrough indicates where the player was previously voting as of the prior vote count.

Just wanted to make a quick post, I'm going to be out of town for the weekend, and I expect some of the players may also have limited abilities to post. I'll keep this in mind when prodding or in any sort of extension decisions.

Awesome. I'm going to go ahead and push the deadline back to, let's say, Sunday at or around 3:00 PM CST. Please aim to get all of the day's business finalized before then, as, barring any serious problems, I don't see any reason to extend the day longer than that.

First it was Y.C, then is was Tjoe, then pops, then Tjoe, then pops, and finally Tjoe. He tried to play it silent, not get himself in trouble, but maybe that was what did him in. As the Sun began to set, Cruciare and Vi pushed pops towards the noose, but sigma and Sotty had Tjoe by the throat. "Not me! Please! Anyone but the Doc Pops!" pops would cry, but Tjoe remained ever silent. "Fine", said Vi, "A lynch must come of this... one way or another". With a shove of disgust, Vi pushed pops off the platform. No objections would be heard from Col.Cathart, pops, Porkens, or jammer.

Tjoe remains silent all the while, and the town is only too happy to oblige. Tjoe dangled from the pecan tree, and when his body finally stopped struggling, the Colonel ran up and grabbed his coat. He searched through the pockets with determination: a set of car keys, a cell phone, a travel guide for Lynchem, TX, a business card 'Waste Management, Not Mafia LLC', and an evidence bag? It looked just like the evidence bags used by the Lynchem Police Department, but Tjoe wasn't a police officer. No, this evidence was doctored, only a
Mafia Framer
would have access to this.

"Ok", pops shouted, "now let's draw straws to see who gets my protection".

Final Day 1 Vote Count

Cock-a-doodle-
BAM
!

The Sun rises with trepidation, exposing a gruesome scene for all to witness. Yes, the town was successful in their killing yesterday, but would the vigilant townspeople face repercussions? The Colonel is the first to arrive on the scene, followed by Vi, sigma, imaginality, Cruciare, afatchic, jammer, DeathRowKitty, Porkens...

and Sotty.

No one says a word as they stare at their departed physician. Medically certified, surely he would be sorely missed by the community. popsofctown is searched for any clues as to who may have been the killer. There isn't much in his pockets, in fact, no one seemed to recall pops visiting them tonight. The only thing to be found on pops' person at all is a set of keys with an Oklahoma University keychain. A doctor from OU? That doesn't sound right. It looks as though he lived somewhat outside of Lynchem, in a small cabin near the lake. The only type of person who could make it out there would have to be a
Survivor
. Sure, there's one less Sooner around, but did the town really want him dead? He was never really part of the town, but then again you know he couldn't have been responsible for any murders. The crowd begins to look at each other once again, because it doesn't look like their problems will be going away overnight.

All players in this game were given the official "Vanilla Townie" role PM, so there was/is nothing to prevent any non-town/town sided roles "confirming" with role PM flavor,
except
for the fact that it was intended to be (as I'm sure all players expect it to be) against the rules. That being said, DRK seems to have attempted to get around this rule by paraphrasing, which, unlike quoting, wasn't explicitly forbidden. Regardless as to DRK's role, it was not my intention for any player to be seen as any more or less likely to be a certain role outside of their own merits.

The question then became whether or not it was in the spirit of the rule that paraphrasing should be assumed prohibited as well, but for the sake of maintaining the game's integrity, taking into account the likelihood of DRK being lynched, wanting not to use the modkill to disrupt gameplay, and giving DRK every benefit of the doubt that my rules were unclear, I decided not to intervene at all, worried that my intervention could unfairly harm the game's balance; This obviously can no longer be avoided. I apologize to all the players of the game because I wrote the rules out myself and, thus, should've taken more time to look over them before using them in the game.

It is my judgment that this day can no longer be continued fairly to all players present, and DeathRowKitty,
Vanilla Townie
, will be removed from play without prejudice.

The game will now be moved to the Night Two phase.
The game will continue with the understanding to all players that any more mention of flavor, regardless as to whether all players have access to said flavor or not, role PMs, or Mod PMs, outside of the context of claiming a role and one's powers, will result in immediate modkills.
No posts will be edited or deleted by me in any way,
and no further in-game discussion about the matter is necessary nor permitted (under penalty of modkill).

If
any
living player, feels as though themselves and/or their party can no longer compete fairly, I will end the game, release the players, and assume full responsibility for the stoppage. In other words, any and all PMs made to me regarding this issue will be read only by me and will no names will be published in the thread.

Edit: The rules have been edited to account for this, please refer to them again, specifically the prohibitions section.

"...and pre-season football", DeathRowKitty said, with a mischievous grin on his face. The eyes of some of the town members collectively widened, thinking that only true townies would be interested in pre-season football. "Hmmm...", pondered Cruciare, "this doesn't mean anything!", cried sigma, and the town began to argue some more. With dusk approaching, headlights could be seen far into the distance. The next second, twilight had struck Lynchem, far earlier than it ever had. The headlights drew closer and closer, multiple cars in the form of a convoy headed straight for town central. sigma spoke up once more, "I called someone I know, Red Coyote, Texas Ranger, to help settle this... but I didn't expect this". The vehicles could be seen and heard well now, only several feet away from the gathering as everyone backed quickly away from DeathRowKitty. The three dark, black Hummers hardly slowed down, leaving a trail of thick dust and dirt wafting in the air as they circled DeathRowKitty. Through the dust cloud, it was hard to make out what was going on, but the Hummers appeared to stop for just a moment. Driving away as quickly as they arrived, unidentified people are heard coughing and asking what was happening. When the dust finally settles, DeathRowKitty is no longer amongst them, and all that's left is a strange note:

The nine remaining players looked at one another, and then hurried back to their houses for the night.

Let me attempt to clarify this once more after having slept on it and coming back to the situation. Discussion doesn't have to cease on the happenings of the end of Day 2, the only message I really want to get across is that every player in this game received the "Vanilla Townie" post, and it was my judgment that, because I wasn't clear enough about that aspect of the game to begin with, it would've necessarily given compromised perceptions of DRK based not on DRK's play but on the way the game itself was created.

There was
nothing wrong
with any of the discussion that happened after the fact, DRK essentially pushed on an area that I felt wasn't made clear and open enough to everyone from the beginning of the game, and it is my judgment that more action was necessary than just an explanation in order to rectify it.

Dawn breaks. imaginality walks hurriedly down Center Street, hoping to be first arrive downtown. During his walk, he notices what appears to be someone running down the alleyway. He pursues the shadowy figure, hoping to become the town's hero (or hoping to find a fall guy?). He stays in lockstep, turning the corner to follow the mysterious figure, when suddenly he feels a striking blow across his forehead. He can't quite make out the face, but he was definitely hit was the butt of a pistol. He tries to reach out, but he finds himself dazed and buried in a... sandbox? His mother calls out to him, "imaginality, get inside this house!"

There's a knock on the door, imaginality gets out of bed and hurries downstairs. The whole town is out front, and Sotty speaks up first, "...and that's eight."

The last house is Ojanen's, and the town doesn't have to go far to understand the delay. Still sitting on her porch swing, Ojanen's lifeless body is a harsh reminder of work left to be done. charter steps up, opening her purse cautiously to look for clues to her side. He pulls out a Dallas Cowboys pre-season television schedule, and that was all the town needed to see to confirm her as a
Vanilla Townie
.

All players, regardless of alignment, had recieved the "Vanilla Townie" role PM and the flavor that went along with it. Because I wasn't clear enough about that in the rules, D2 was ended before any speculation about that could take place.

sigma looks around at the shrinking town, his voice drowned out by the droning of support for lynching Vi. It isn't long before Porkens and imaginality make up their minds, creating a majority and sealing the town's fate for another day. The Sun sets much earlier than yesterday, and Vi is taken, without much resistance, towards the noose. "Don't remember me for this one," are Vi's dramatic final words as the floor is dropped from underneath. charter upstages the Colonel with a smug satisfaction, knowing that the right choice was made. He runs up the steps and immediately sees something shiny in Vi's pocket. "The gun," he begins, "is right here!" When he reaches for the object, however, he comes up only with a pocket watch, decorated with Bill Watterson's lovable cartoon characters Calvin & Hobbes. "wow, guys" is all Cruciare can muster, as charter searches in vain for some sort of clue. It's useless though, because Vi was a

"Colonel Cathart!"

There was no answer. Porkens walked into Col.Cathart's office. Being the
Town Cop
, the Colonel was working on cases on some of the town members. Porkens saw his picture on the wall next to DeathRowKitty, both of their pictures were set to the right of everyone else's picture, but someone was missing from the board. As more of the town members started to show up, the Sun began to shine through the slits in the office blinds. The Colonel's head, illuminated and lifeless, had collapsed on his desk. "That's me," Sotty said as she pointed to her picture on his desk. It looked like the Colonel was in the middle of an investigation... but his results, if he came to any, were no where to be found. Was Sotty scum? What about Porkens? sigma? imaginality?

Whatever secrets Col.Cathart knew, he has taken to his grave.

Porkens wrinkled his nose and felt sickened by the gutless town members that surrounded him. The town had banded together to decide that one of them may have to suffer for the good of Lynchem. There was little support for the idea of pressing forward, imaginality explained that the numbers would surely help the community in the end. Sotty and sigma soon followed that explanation, but how confident were they that they wouldn't be the next one to bite the dust? A
No Lynch

imaginality finally made it to the town's center. "Hey guys," he began, "where's Sotty? I didn't see her this morning". The other four looked puzzled, "She's not with you?" charter asked. imaginality shook his head solemnly, realizing immediately why he hadn't seen her. By now the town had grown accustomed to losing someone each night, but Sotty had a special ability...

The town rushed to Sotty's house, only to find her lifeless near a window. The window had been open, and so had the window to the house next door. Because Lynchem isn't a very large town, not every member had the luxury of being able to speak to their neighbor at night, only
Vanilla Townie Neighbors
could speak with one another. If there wasn't an urgency in finding the culprit yesterday, surely there would be one today.

[The Lynchem Tribute regrets to report that these were the last words our fine reporter ever wrote. Turn to page 2 for more details about her untimely murder and funeral information...]

"Porkens, what the hell?" exclaimed charter, in a desperate bid to regain control of the town. "It's you or imaginality," replied Porkens, unsure whether his move was the right one, "We just need a lynch". With that, Porkens turned away from imaginality and Cruciare just as they were convinced Porkens had it right.

"Guess we aren't interested in waiting", sigma would say with an evil glint in his eye. He smiled as he gave a peculiar nudge to charter. charter smiled in concert, and imaginality could only look on with horror. imaginality,
Vanilla Townie Neighbor
was strung up, and he died painfully, having lost his life and lost his town. Cruciare attempted to intervene, but he was shot before he could be of any help. Cruciare,
Vanilla Townie Neighbor
, fell to the ground, clutching at the Lynchem dirt as his neighbor holstered his weapon.

Porkens backed away from sigma,
Mafia Goon Neighbor
and charter,
Mafia Godfather
, his heart and mind racing at what all just happened. Regret, fear, sorrow, anguish, anger... he stumbled off the lynching platform and turned to run, but charter lifted his gun with a surgical precision and shot Porkens,
Vanilla Townie
before he could get very far.

I hope y'all enjoyed it. I've definitely learned a lot from my first modded game here. For one thing, I don't think I will ever be putting flavor in PMs ever again. I felt so embarrassed when DRK caught me on that. The worst thing about it was, I thought that I had solved the problem of having people use their PMs to confirm themselves by changing up the Vanilla Townie PM rolenames, it never even occurred to me that someone would use the flavor itself.
Ojanen 726 wrote:Did I deduce correctly that the mafia had the vanilla pm from beginning but the cop didn't?
None of the mafia, nor the Cop/Survivor had that PM, so sent I it off to them after I noticed DRK bring it up, but I still felt as though that wasn't enough to compensate for dropping the ball there. My biggest worry, the worst thing I thought could've happened, was for someone to say, "Oh, RC is just covering his ass... DRK is clear", and the town agreeing to that.

As far as the good things go, I was really impressed how I thought the mafia were able to completely take advantage of the neighbor mechanic. Cruciare-sigma and Sotty-imaginality ended up fairly trusting of one another, which was my ultimate aim in this one.

The setup itself we originally meant to be two Mason teams separate of one another, neither of them containing a "scum" Mason or anything like that, and then have the Survivor and the mafia the same (having just a regular goon instead of a goon neighbor). I was advised, rightly I think, that that would make the town too powerful. Based on that, I decided to shake it up a little bit. Watching the game play out was tough, originally I thought the mafia wasn't going to be able to do much, then I saw the town not making any headway... perhaps the mafia was too strong, but I was so disappointed that I didn't get to see the Survivor pan out. What I really wanted to see was, like, the Cop and his investigations v.s. Survivor v.s. Neighbors 1 v.s. Neighbors 2 v.s. Mafia. I thought the mafia would have more trouble because each section kind of had certain hidden knowledge of other people that would make them all more independent and less inclined to be strung around.

Thanks guys :D

I think the town really had it going on. I felt bad about the DRK situation, but I think the mafia did well to get the Vi and imaginality lynches through. I, too, was a little surprised with the no lynch. I understood it, we do at EpicMafia all the time, but losing Sotty hurt in retrospect. I think losing any of the townies at that point would've ended up hurting. I did love that so many of y'all played until the end, meaning less replacement work. Truth be told, I only had to send out a handful of prods, and everyone was really on top of the game. The few replacements we had all requested it, so it was definitely a great group to moderate!
