Yes, contribution to the wiki would fall under Behind the Scenes or Mafia Discussion, depending on what it was. I don't see the need for an additional award there (we get few enough nominations for those categories as it is).

for the maintenance of the mini queues, which seems to be a monumental task, as she not only looks after modding signups, checks each mod has the requisite experience etc, she also handles signups of the games themselves, checking each player against their mini limit, checking when each game is finished and removing that game from all the necessary players, keeps on top of the mods, acts as the go to person when a mod has a difficult situation, locks and sorts all the finished games... and does it all quickly and efficiently

While we're at it,

nominate Vel Rahn Koon

for his work with the newbie queue and modding newbie games, too.

, again for his work on the wiki which he basically runs, and which is one of the major reasons that mafiascum is growing so quickly in prestige and, simply, in size. He even made that bot thing to clean the spam!

I don't think we should be nominating anyone for the year-long awards on January 26th. For all we know, every one of those people will flake on their duties in the next month.

Is there any issue with nominating them now and then removing them from the list if they flake? I did it now because I probably would have forgotten within a few days, and certainly would have forgotten towards the end of the year.

I also think it's premature to nominate for it now, but if a nominee were to flake, I'm sure the Judges would correct it come judging time.

Is a person eligible for that if the setup is their own and the game was only played to prove a point that he doesn't like the way the open queue works?

Hypothetically, of course.

Even if Jdodge were nominated, he would never win, and he's almost certainly not going to be nominated anyway. No, the point of this was that I heard a lot of people saying that Kinetic didn't really scumhunt, he just used the setup to win the game, which is another laudable mafia skill, but not what the paragon of mafia hunters award is for. I have no opinion on this, because I haven't read the games in question, but I think that anyway such a skill

should

be cultivated and should be rewarded.

The quirks of a setup are part of the game. I don't think we should have an award for every different way in which you can catch scum.

That's just the point - breaking the setup isn't catching scum! You can force a town win without ever knowing who the scum are.

Guys, Paragon of Mafia Hunters and the Don Corleone award for most cunning manipulation are supposed to reflect an exceptional performance overall as town or scum this year, or in other words not just one game. That's what differentiates it from the Best Performance awards.

There is one problem I have with those awards. How many games do some people get in during one year? How many of those are as scum and how many as town? I get maybe 1 or 2 of each a year and I'm sure there are other players better than me that do the same with how long games last on the site. Better players usually play less games to better devout time as aposed to pulling a gimbo by joining 20 some games at once. Even Zwet has started to learn some of that lesson.

How many games are those awards suppose to factor in? How many times in a year was kison scum when he won the Don Corleone? If it was many times why was only Guardians UPick game mentioned in the listings and at the scummy ceremony back then? I thought Kison kicked more ass in that Monkey's in Space game than Guardians game.


Is there an exact number of games for those awards? Should there be an exact number? Should the awards instead factor in all the games the player has performed well in since they have been at mafiascum or should we get an award just for that kind of achievement?

First off, I dispute your claim that most plaeyrs only get 1 or 2 games as each faction a year. For a start, most players will get more games as town than as scum. A typical mini lasts 3-4 months, that's 3-4 games per year if you're playing only one game at a time. I would argue most players play more than one game at a time. Furthermore, if you replace in or IC in newbie games, then the amount of games played further increases. I would guess most players get through 3-4 town games and 1-2 scum games a year, less if they play lots of large games. Though in large games, through lynches and nightkills there is, of course, more opprtunity to escape before the end.

But that's actually slightly beside the point, since it is supposed to pick out the best scum player in a year. The best scum player in a year could be apparent from just a single game, or it could be from multiple games and show a consistent high level of play. All the nominations so far, however, are coming from one off performances. Consistent high level performances command a greater degree of respect, I would guess, though it is of course up to the judging committee to decide who wins.

As for why Kison's other games were not listed, presumably it is because they were not included in the nomination. Judges can only judge on the nominations, after all.

There also needs to be awards for Scum on Scum fighting since many scum group games kick more ass then one scum group games.

I'm pretty sure it is sitewide. However, specific examples are, of course, useful for the judges!

Also, much kudos for the work. The last update was mine, and I can know how much of a pain it was (I had to do it twice! I lost the post the first time :(). Since that, I haven't dared venture back through the jungle.
