Primary Ruleset

1. The full ruleset is located on this wiki page. You are heavily encouraged to read

2. We will be using the following sections of the ruleset: notes on reading this page, general rules, and voting, fading, and twilight rules unless superseded below.

Summary of General Rules

1. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," and "Love your neighbor as yourself." While mafia can be a heated game, excessive toxicity is not allowed.
   
   
2. Follow all site rules including the ones against discussing ongoing games, threatening to replace out, declaring intent to replace out in-thread, and proving private communication.
   
3. Do not discuss the reasons behind a player replacing out.
   
4. Play to win the game.
   This includes reading your role pm and confirming your role to the moderator's satisfaction. Do not claim to have done otherwise.
   
   
5. Respect pronouns
   , and use alternatives like fade, accuse, and eliminate instead of the L-word.
   
6. Follow both the letter and spirit of the rules.
   
7. If you disagree with an action the moderator takes, please bring it up privately or wait until post-game. Do not discuss moderator actions in-thread.
   
8. The moderator may update the ruleset as necessary with notice.
   
9. This summary is not and cannot be all-inclusive. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the entire ruleset when you get the chance.

Deadline and Activity Rules

1. For this game, all days will last 14 days unless rolled game mechanics supersede this.
   Nights last two days. Twilights (if needed) will last 24 hours.
   
2. No formal prods exist for this game due to its nature, but players may request prods for other players at any time (within reason). You are still expected to post daily in at least one thread.
   
3. If you have regular weekend V/LA, you must notify the moderator each week. Please also set V/LA status in the user cp as well.

Voting Rules

1. Please mark any unofficial vote counts as such.

General Rules for Private Threads

1. You are
   not
   allowed to quote content from one private thread into another private thread.
   
2. You are allowed to paraphrase content from one thread to another, but please remember that paraphrases should not use quotation marks.
   
3. Unless superseded by a game mechanic or role, all neighborhoods possess daytalk. The main neighborhoods from the Won't You Be My Neighbor? mechanic will always remain open during the day even if a game mechanic or role specifies otherwise.
   
4. Unless superseded by a game mechanic or role, you are not allowed to continue posting in a private thread once you have died or otherwise exited the game.

Setup-Specific Rules

1. Alignment distribution for this setup will be 6-2-1, 6-3, 7-2, or 7-1-1. 7-1-1 is only allowed if both non-town roles are considered main faction scum (i.e.: not third parties), and in 6-2-1, the referenced "two" must be main faction scum. The moderator will reroll roles as needed starting at the top of the player list in order to make the setup playable. Main faction scum include (but is not limited to)

2. Unless superseded by a game mechanic or role, all non-town players are multitasking by default.
   
3. This setup uses Natural Action Resolution.
   
4. All players are guaranteed some sort of non-vanilla power. The moderator will reroll any roles that are strictly vanilla. Cards of the type "Add this effect and then reroll" that reroll to a vanilla role will be rerolled again until a non-vanilla role is rolled. Named cards (e.g.: "Chocolate Townie") or cards that have an effect on the setup that do not fall under the aforementioned "Add this effect and then reroll" exception will be kept as-is and not rerolled.
   
5. The moderator reserves the right to veto any role that they consider 1) broken 2) overpowered 3) lacking clarity (i.e.: hard to interpret) or 4) too difficult to implement in a reasonable time frame.
   
6. Won't You Be My Neighbor?'s mechanics
   : The game will have 36 neighborhood threads, one for each pairing of players. Players are
   not
   allowed to post in the main thread except to vote.
   Depending on content, violations can result in a warning, force-replacement, or a modkill.
   
   
7. Grand Idea Mafia's mechanics
   : A single role for each player will be drafted from the Grand Idea Mafia thread. We will use cards from post #0 through post #12703. Duplicate numbers are allowed.
   
8. All the optional clauses listed here apply to this game except the improved mason feasibility clause.
   
9. A note on win condition priority: self-aligned roles if they exist have priority over main faction scum (mafia, werewolves, cult, etc.) during a tie-breaker scenario.

Throughout the game, you will automatically collect the following parts from actions targeting you:

Medical Supplies -> Obtained from protective roles.
Heat Shielding -> Obtained from inventor inventions, JOAT actions, or blocking roles.
Circuitry -> Obtained from investigative roles or inventor inventions.
Rocket Fuel -> Obtained from killing roles or by hammering a non-town player that classifies as having a gun.

If you have all necessary supplies and are ignited by an arsonist, you will automatically use your launch ability (see below).

You need two medical supplies, three heat shielding, one circuitry, and one gallon of rocket fuel to successfully use your launch ability (see below), but you may attempt to jury-rig your launch if you possess one heat shielding, one circuitry, and one gallon of rocket fuel.

If you jury-rig your launch, you have a 50% chance of exploding (and automatically dying).

Launch Ability

: Once per game during the day, you may pm the moderator with three names provided you have enough supplies. If your ability succeeds, the day will end early. This part of your ability is strong-willed.

• On the night of your launch, you will lightning rod the three names you sent in.
  
• Your lightning rod action succeeds even if the relevant players are commuting.
  
• After the night of your launch, you are automatically tree-stumped for the rest of the game meaning you can continue to talk in the neighborhood threads from the Won't You Be My Neighbor? mechanic, but you do not count towards win conditions.
  
• If the game is still ongoing at the end of two nights after you launch, you will land on the moon and win the game for the Aliens.

is it confirmed that pooky is town aligned based on my role?

This would be true with the way I decided to generate this specific setup, but I am answering "No" to this question because I could have done an implementation where this wouldn't be the case.

I typically rand roles the same way I randed the blackjack reshuffle (randomize both the list of roles and the list of players). If i had randed the original roles that way, then it certainly wouldn't be the case that Pooky was confirmed town.

What happened with the role shuffle btw?

The details were posted in the mod thread. Based on my interpetation of the role, there was no guarantee that everyone would receive a new role. The only guarantee was that the roles would be redistributed among the living players. Ranger and Jake The Wolfie ended up with their original roles redistributed to them, so they did not receive new role pms.

So Ircher, how would you have dealt with the case where my role was randomized to not be a clockmaker?

You would have remained a serial killer with whatever new role you got. You would no longer have the clock.

A town clockmaker would have received a new clock starting at 6:00, and it would have functioned the same as your role where tow would win if it reached 12:00. (It wouldn't have been able to advance though because town does not have a factional kill.)

I guess I assumed that by “all players will get new role cards” meant that everyone except me would get an actual new role. It really messed up my reads when some people claimed they didn’t change and I had to just assume they’re lying.

A lot of these roles have quite some ambiguity, so I do think mod discretion plays a role in these setups. I can definitely see how you would interpret the role that way, and other mods may have the same interpretation as you did. You can always request clarification from the moderator about your own role during a game.
