Moving to the Univesal ## Format - Discuss

Changing the format of our votes from
Vote Unvote
to
##Vote ##Unvote
.

This makes it easier for mods to search for the votes, resulting in less mised votes. Its also REALLY clear to see from a player's pespective.

"So what can I do?" When you mod, make it your format. When you play screw the mod and make it your format anyway. As soon as people start using it it will fall into common usage and become standard.

What do you all think about this, remove some ambiguity and make things easier for our mods?

isn't it possible to just isolate all the players and find their most recent vote? thats what i do when i do unofficial counts in games I'm playing in. Hell, a simple F3:Vote does the job pretty well too.

It doesn't seem that useful to me, if I'm looking for that it pops no more than any other words, and if I'm finding it just seems kind of nitpicky.

I simply ask players to put their votes on a new line or at the end of something. What really bugs me is "bla blah blah VOTE:WHOEVER bla blah blah blah.

Skitzer: ctrl+F ## will find them all. Thats the point.

And yes it is ZONEACE, but I find it fiddly and still miss them sometimes.

If this becomes commonplace, I'm searching for a new place to play. It would be a sign of how lazy and/or stupid our mods have gotten.

Have we gotten to the point when people can no longer recognize
bolded text

I've never seen that. You just give each player their own number?

The reason I required it during my game are because of times when my home net connection is wonky or I'm crunched for time at work, I can look for ## and post a quick vote count and no one can bitch their vote wasn't counted if they didn't format it right.

I've seen players purposely not unvote when required or format votes wrong in order to not get counted but get reactions, and this does help facilitate that by allowing someone to 'fake-hammer' or bait people.

In those same situations where the player felt their vote wouldn't be counted, I've seen the mods count them. This removes any ambiguity.

I'm sure somewhere back when the Mafia was played on ArpaNet, they only required "vote:Bob" and then the bolding came along to make it easier. This is simply an evolution of that.

I like it.

No- a literal ## or $$ or some other double symbol that isn't going to pop up in random conversation. It makes CTRL-F quick.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just require a colon on votes? Same ease in using CTRL-F, and a lot of people already do it.

although you meant not literally numbers, I think that would be better than ## if this form was adopted.

you mean De-Evolved, we've become lazier/more incapable as a group. Nothing has changed about the site in the last 5 years except WHO the regular members are. Therefore, the problem is THEM, those who make up the community, and in this case, those who moderate games. We don't need to make all the players change how they vote, we need moderators who can recognize bold text.

I don't like this system as a player because I'd probably find it annoying to include the ## all the time. I wouldn't use this system as a mod because I don't see why it's difficult to keep track of votes that should be clear enough to the eye when
bolded
.

If a mod required this in a game I was interested in, I probably wouldn't play in said game.

Oh, come on- that was (moderately) witty!

I'm certainly not trying to be militant about ##. I simply see its benefits and feel its not that onerous.

I suppose mods do not like to read the game they are modding anymore.

Meh, we don't seem to require the players to do so anymore, so i guess its unfair to expect it of the moderators.

This would be an
improvement
that reduces the work-load on mods and will likely reduce the amount of mistakes made. The fact mods should already be able to handle the stress of modding does not change the fact we should revise and improve our conventions, even if they aren't nessecary.

There is absolutely NOTHING onerous about searching for the word
vote
in bolded text.

Mods these days need to grow a pair. If they don't have one, they can borrow mine.

All benefits aside, ## is simply ugly.

Also, it really isn't that hard to find the votes ;)

I dont see the problem with
##vote:
as a player. It's fairly easy to adapt to. I'd probably forget once or twice to start with but then it'd become habit. So, if the mods want to use this, I don't care. Anything that makes their jobs easier is fine by me; it's not like they get paid or anything.

(you really need a neither support nor condemn option on your poll. I didn't vote because my reaction was 'eh, whatever'.)

Adel read my mind.

Besides, assuming the mod has been staying on top of the game it shouldn't take that long to scroll through the page and note the votes and unvotes just by watching for bolded text.

if you want a change in convention, have each player post an updated Vote Count in every post they change their vote.
