Swearing - ok.
Personal attacks - not ok.

The problem is that usually the first leads to the second.

I would also have a problem if we actually hung people in games as well.

Hmm. This could be a problem, because if wikiality is truth, if more people believe I wrote what you said I wrote, then I actually wrote what you said I wrote. This is quite a quandry.

Wikiality isn't truth.

Swearing in a game like "oh xxxx, that was dumb of me" is OK to me. Swearing like "you dumb xxxx, I can't believe you are such a xxxxhead" is patently not.

I voted "no", because my view is so far from the view of that expressed by many of votes who I know will decide to vote "yes".

Many "yes" voters opinion on this matter, and on matters in general, is "xxxx you, I'll keep xxxxing doing whatever the xxxx I want and I don't xxxxing care what anyone else thinks or how it adversely effects some people." I am not a big fan of that view.

The point though is that (and I hate to say this) "We're not acutally hanging people, its just words." "Well if the words are just pretending, then how is swearing a problem, its just pretending."

I basically think that "its not me swearing, its my role"

Funnily enough, I voted "yes" despite having pretty similar views on this to yours.

To my knowledge, I have only ever used swearing for emphasis (and even then only when I'm particularly frustrated). I do not support swearing to insult another player, which I think is definitely inappropriate.

If a ban on swearing were put into place, I would not be more than minorly annoyed (just like I think people who don't like swearing should not be more than minorly annoyed when people do swear in non-personal ways). It's just not a big deal.

And Ibby swears for emphasis all the time. Who doesn't want to be like Ibby?

I voted no as ive never been a big fan of it. However i suppose its ok when used for the sack of strategy and to get extra information out of players. Other then that im against it.

Actually, chess is a game in which regicide is strictly impossible.

Have you read this thread? And would it be okay of me to post pornographic pictures in the thread if my role was a pimp? (After all, it'd be my role posting, not me.) I don't get it, are you suggesting that you're pretending to swear and not actually swearing?

I don't understand what you're getting at.

Its a grey area I'm exploiting to play Devil's Advocate to perpetuate the discussion.

Thok you're being wanky again, you mind stepping back whilst I discuss this with Thesp like adults, without winners or losers (even though Thesp severly spanked me).

I hadn't thought about it in the context of Vollkan's actions, how interesting.

Perhaps, which is most surely the case, I don't hold the same importance to bad language as you guys. Hell, I grew up with George Carlin and Bill Hicks. That doesn't mean I find it hard to empathise, however, I do find it hard to wrap my head around exactly
why
some people are so anti-swearing.

The "this game is about murdering people so it's ok to swear" argument is a red herring. And note my position is in favor of keeping the swearing. This is a forum based debate game. No one really dies. We use the construct of the stakes of death in this game, as we do in an endless variety of other games, for example: chess. Using the artifice of death in our games, does not then allow any other action, however immoral or negative consequence causing to occur as the game goes on.

Player 1: Knight to KR7. I take your bishop.
Player 2: You dirty spic-wop crossbreed motherfucker!!
Player 1: Check
Player 2: YOUR MOTHER IS A SYPHILITIC WHORE! I KNOW BECAUSE I HAD HER LAST NIGHT AND NOW I HAVE THE SYPHILIS! IT TINGLES! IT REALLY REALLY TINGLES!
Player 1: Checkmate
Player 2: GODDAMNIT! TAKE THIS, BITCH !!!*Hits player one with a chair!*
Player 1: Hey. Ow! man, what's your problem???
Player 2: What? This is a game about death. Quit overreacting. Keep some perspective. Death is way worse than racist insults. Still...I guess the game was over at checkmate so I should have swung that chair earlier during check. My bad, man.

I assume you mean Glork rather than me, since I haven't posted since you and Thesp started having your conversation.

Cicero's post is amusing.

Given the poll's been going on for a while, I'll concede that the proportion of MS that is anti-swearing appears to be smaller than I thought.

I usually don't cuss unless I cause a big accident or get hurt really badly~ My biggest problem is censoring myself when I really have to. Like one time when I was at church I spilled soda all over myself and I said "SH*T!" and everyone looked at me <_< I really didn't mean to say that, I just suck at thinking before I say stuff.... ^^;

Anyway, I voted for yes. Because cursing generally doesn't bother me at all. Only if its done excessively and angrily does it ever get annoying....
Thok you're being wanky again
That made me giggle. <(^w^)> Wanky is such a silly word.
