On another note the title proposed by Wacky seems appropriate for me. I don't think there will ever be a more distinctly "PolarBoy" moment than my playing in a game I wasn't actually in. The only other thing I can think of would be something to do with my horrendous gambit in Beach Resort Mafia and how it came back to haunt me in Restaurant At the End of the Universe.

I thought the rule was that someone had to nominate you for a title. Wouldn't that pretty much solve everything? The title would be topical and specifi to the site, and not thrown out there for no reason.

I don't see why it's such a big deal anyway. Maybe nobody noticed, but this site isn't exactly very prestigious. If you want fame and fortune I suggest going to venues where you will be seen by more than 100 people. The rest of us are here to play mafia.

If you think having a title makes you a legitimate member of this comunity you have it in reverse. Titles sometimes go to people who have already become legitimate members. If you want to establish that legitimacy, I suggest focusing on what this site is really about. Like I said, the rest of us are here to play mafia.

Or we could just go with my idea of no one asking for their own title and only receiving one when somebody else nominates them for it. The only problem I can see here is "title coalitions" forming around a group of newbies. So you could make it so that nominations will only be accepted if they are made or seconded by someone who already has a title(maybe I shouldn't talk like this, seeing as I have no title yet)

Because obviously someone is needed to fill this post. Also I am already somewhat involved in the title-creation process.

Do you think there are better candidates for this post on this site?

Yes. mathcam, for one, is much more qualified for this position. Just about any mod or admin on the site is more qualified. However I feel that I am more equipped to carry out this responsibility in a timely manner.

Do you consider yourself serious and organized enough to do it good?

Yes, I believe I am organized enough to do it well. My own modding projects(minis 44, 76, and 68) should provide ample reference.

Do you think you have been on this site long enough to know the history of the players, and know what kind of title they're looking for?

I have been a member of this site since March 1st, 2003. Though I am not entirely privy to the character of each user of this site, I am an active member of the site and familiar with many of them.

Don't you think your reputation will be in the way to do your job properly?

I do not believe my reputation will hinder my performance in this post.

Would you handle things in a different way than Sugar? If so, how?

Generally I would try to operate in a very similar fashion. I will probably be less accepting of self-suggested titles(I don't believe they hold the same meaning).

I think that my responses to Flying Dutchman's application form which were a result of bigben's applying for a position that is only noticed to be empty because people want their titles---on some level--is thoroughly lame, oh King Of Thieves.

Ok, mathcam is right. It's not that the titles are first party. It's that titles should be something for the community. Much of the time when someone suggests their own title it's based on a personal quirk that nobody on this forum ever notices or recognizes as being that distinct. If someone else suggests it then obviously it works from an outside perspective and is a legitimate reference within the community.

I'm also trying to discourage people from being pushy and wanting a title just because a bunch of other people have one.

All of this, as mathcam pointed out, does not mean that first-party requests are always inappropriate. It just means that they usually aren't worth it, as I'll ignore them if they aren't seconded by another member anyway.

Also, I'd like to point out that titles that refer to newbie-ness or suspicious behavior will be unlikely to be selected because, quite frankly, they would apply to nearly everybody at one time or another.

Actually, about Quagmire's title: I've been thinking maybe it shouldn't be. I like telling people about this site, but every time there's something like that, I'm a little less able to recommend it. Young scummers are cool too, and I can't in good conscience direct most of them to a site that I know contains things like that. Until recently it really hasn't been an issue, but I think that we, as a community, need to consider our content and how it affects our membership.
