Your rankings have more to do with your win/loss record, and the skill rating of the enemy team compared to your teams/your individual skill rating. Personal performance does play a part but it's a smaller percentage compared to the other factors. Furthermore, the matchmaking system takes into account people playing in groups, and gives a higher skill rating to them when doing calculations (you're in a group and will presumably be working together better and probably more likely to use voice chat and coordinate)
In other words, it's overwatch and the rules are made up and the points don't matter

The only thing that could make sense is that my group play in season 3 was against weaker opponents and so i got a lesser rank but you just said they matched groups up with higher people since they figure a group would do better. So that idea falls flat too.
Welll..kind of. It takes into account people playing in groups when deciding how many skill points you gain/lose after a match, but doesn't actually change the skill rating for match making...? It's like a sekrit. Unless I'm misremembering.
Cerb is also correct that your initial season placement is based not just on placement matches, but also where you ended last season at

You need someone (possibly yourself) to be hitscan and focus the pharah. Soldier is p standard anti-pharah, widow maker works if you or someone on your team is the only good widow maker in the world (or maybe pc is different idk but on consoles widow makers are trash)

I basically main mercy at this point and every time I set up a pharmacy it's just me watching in horror as the other 4 members of the team get absolutely destroyed because I'm not there to help them, but fortunately the survivors guilt doesn't last too much longer because then I get laser beam focused
Do I just need to git gud or is pharah not doing her job or does this setup need another support character or what?

Good points midudes, cerb in my whole time playing mercy I've never had the spacial awareness to, in battle, even look at pharah while I'm on the ground. I should probably learn to use airborne pharah as an escape route. Poker has a point that Ana would be a good option, but it's literally impossible to not have res on your team and no one else ever wants to play Mercy it seems *mercy shrug emote here* I do want to get good as ana and zenyatta though cuz they're cool and I'd like some variation in my eternity spent as support

Getting back on overwatch topic, there's a new character. I like that she can be tank and support. Those are the two classes I play the most. But as she is no a very good support or a very good tank, I don't think she is going to be that great or meta changing. She'll end up being another niche character like most other hybrids. I feel like they need more unique characters and less hybrids. Zenyatta feels like his slowly getting replaced or phased out with Moira and now Bridgette having similar abilities to him.
I just started playing again after nearly half a year of not caring, and I really like Brigitte, actually. No longer must I choose between smacking enemies or healing friends, now I can do the latter by doing the former. I've found her shield to be not so useful but maybe I just need to git gud. Her ults really good for making pushes/shutting down a push as well. Idk how she fares on PC but on PS4 there's practically two Brigitte every match.
Moira seems like trash to me so far though and I don't know why I'd ever play her, and I'm really hoping there's something I'm missing because I like the concept and I'd like to be David Bowie but I just don't see it happening

And if I might chime in on what is now a 2 month old conversation, unless I'm playing a turn based strategy/RTS I'm going to use a controller and you can't stop me

Why is it that whenever my team has a hanzo that person insta-locked him at game start and refuses to move off of him even though we're on attack with no tanks or support
But whenever the enemy team has a hanzo they always have scatter arrow ready for my face and they never die and get most eliminations
