I am pretty sure that given how insane teams are able to rotate now at the top of the game, and how we are going in to a run at your face meta, there will be upsets in the world championships.
Expect Fnatic to do things in worlds they haven't done before. xPeke's laning was always a big issue for them against the absolute top teams (At least last year it was), that's not an issue any more.

If Rekkles is in form come Worlds Fnatic can do it, but they are the only team that can from EU or NA. Fnatic were always at their best with the protect the carry comps.

Group 1 is a FUCKING FARCE> HOW DARE CLG GET A GROUP THEY CAN REALISTICALLY LEAVE. FUCK OFF.
Group 2 is bae. (Been and Fnatic fan since season 1, been and Invictus fan since season 2), Second spot is winnable by all the teams. Group of life.
Group 3 is SKT and others. Edward gonna choke again bc they can't travel. They're the Spain of LoL. Look to see H2K to make it out on sheer dumb luck.
Group 4 is just fucked. Like seriously. Upsets likely. Lets put the two most experienced teams that had iffy years with teams from the top two regions and see what happens. If you are a betting man, put a fiver on Origen to make it out. Because the payoff is gonna be huge and could EASILY happen. TSM will get only one match win, and it won't be against Origen. Someone will go undefeated and it won't be Origen. Group of Death.

Well I would say, there is currently a decent opportunity for as many as 5 western teams to make it out. I stand by my H2K prediction and EDG's group choke.

Just to expand on my point. Teams with good coaching structure and the ability to bring surprise picks to the table are always going to do better in series. So teams with strong streamers that play requests and people that have off meta pocket picks or comps will generally find a way to win out over five games.
Remember this is the time of the tournament where dumb stuff like heal/shield comps and protect the Kali/Vayne with four tanks will come through and take games off people and put them on tilt over the series.
This is why I generally like teams that have lanes that they like to focus on as better in Bo5. The main reason I rate Fnatic so highly is because of the stuff that Rekkles can pull out of something like a 4/5 pick Vayne in what is otherwise a normal looking team comp along with a wild pick alongside to change the complexion of a champ select. Bo5 is where teams can take risks and generally those that do tend to go better if they can shift mentality in the first couple of games.

I want to see a team where they pick Morde AND an ADC to create some serious siege pressure. Have the toplaner play the Morde and stick the adc in the solo lane.

I feel like Fnatic have the best shot of beating SKT. But they need a short series against whoever they play to keep something. SKT's champion pool in every lane is so big they can outpick, but only if they know what's coming. I feel like Febiven would need to have the series of his life.

If we all agree that KOO isn't going to win the whole thing we can go ahead and say something or someone will be winning their second worlds. Fnatic and SKT as teams , or xPeke as a person.

They were the best team in the world at the time. And there was a decent enough amount of competition. TSM and especially AAA both turned up big time as well. You can't discount season 1 worlds when two finalists are still in top echelon of played still actively playing. Season 1 AAA and Fnatic both had players that are in these semi finals. Ergo, top players in the world at the height of League's popularity were active season 1 too.

Tbh the semi series that Fnatic played was p good. I remember the AP triad's stength and weaknesses being explained quite well which was a cool insight in to the game at that time. (Anivia, Brand, Malz)

I think that this semi is gonna be great because I feel like these are the two teams that lift and have the best teams over five games in comparison to single games. If any teams could beat SKT over five games it would be these two just because of how good they both are at breaking down opponent's games.
I feel like Fnatic is slightly better than Koo in terms of who can beat SKT because Fnatic make explosive midgame plays moreso than any other team which I feel is the weakest point of SKT's game. Koo however are quite good at finding some way to win and forcing that through.
No matter who wins, I will be going for them in the final. I picked Fnatic, and I still think they will win here.

My team is and has always been Fnatic. And it continues to be. Even when xPeke, one of the two ap playing reasons I became a fnatic fan left I am still a Fnatic fan.
TSM I liked bc I liked Regi. Without Regi on the playing roster I feel the main reason I watched them is gone. And I was a big TheOddOne fan. And the whole hating CLG thing.

US are good in womens soccer because they have the most active and high level club support for women. US women's club football is to the womens game when England is to the mens game.

Actually, if you take all Summer Olympic sports and then equate medals to population, it requires you to go to countries with miniscule populations to get close or overtake Australia.

tbh I never liked Alex Ich. He was always so devoted to his fave champs instead of what was strongest which was ok in season 1 and 2, and I dunno if that's changed. But it could harm them in the day in day out meta picks of top tier pro leagues.

The scene is pretty decent over here if we had a stronger playerbase, but the inter-university comps went over really well and were a joy to watch. I even got to see some of the games live because I frequent the best gaming cafe in Sydney that hosts a bunch of riot supported tourneys.
A lot of it comes down to social media exposure I feel. Or if it was featured on the esports site which never really happens. But there are some followings of OCE challenger players over here specifically because of the tourneys they had.
It also helps make the scene tight knit that the popular streamers and oce casters are irl friends so exposure has grown, as soon as one gets a viewer the entire comp scene over here gets exposed to them. I had a great time watching ice casters v streamers competition that happened on all their streams, and they play 5s normals against subs sometimes which is also a treat to watch and participate in.
The scene is smaller over here though which means some exposure is a large amount for the size. I don't know what the solution is in larger regions. But I think the fact that Brazil and OCE have huge fan followings of lower ranked teams says they must be doing something right. If only that filtered to money for the challenger players so it is easier to make the jump.

I feel like part of why FA cup is a big thing is that with football you can do stuff like run a second string team for experience which makes less whitewashes than normal. If you did that with league the amount of not good viewing would be huge until later rounds. You would only get viewership on the vods which doesn't bring much dosh in. And then you also have the history of FA cup.

What I posted to facebook.
My Pickems for those that care.
RNG over SKT
ROX over EDG
C9 over SSG
ANX over H2K
RNG over ROX
ANX over C9
RNG over ANX
Ones that may change. SKT v RNG is a tough one. ANX could win it. SSQ may beat C9. The others I am fairly confident on.
Regardless of what happens I will be going for whoever wins ANX v H2K. And I will be going for whatever team gets to the final from the bottom half expect if it somehow is C9 v Rox.
Is it outlandish of me to believe that the NALCS literally does not matter anymore unless/until an NA team wins MSI or places semis or better at worlds? (less so for EU since regardless of their opposition they've won one season and have only missed semis
once
as a region (S4))
It matters because professional sports is entertainment industry and while people are entertained and watch it, it is relevant. As long as a supporter base exists, it will continue to exist and be important to the way League is run.
