Okay so I've tried running Pathfinder & 3.5 before and it just felt way too expansive, like there was always some little rule tucked away in some corner somewhere that could upend your plans because you skimmed that paragraph instead of read it closely ten times over. I want a more streamlined, simplified (but still with plenty of choices/options) system. Does 5e fit the bill?green shirt thursdays-

I guess when I dove headfirst into Pathfinder character creation, it was pretty simply laid out and easy to follow. This one is just like "Priority" then I read it and it's like METATYPE AND ALSO HERE'S A BUNCHA NUMBERS AND TERMS YOU DON'T GET! It's so dense.green shirt thursdays-

My character is Harland, a 24 year old ork (so basically middle-aged). Backstory is that he was doing freelance work for the Lone Star security firm for years. Work got more dangerous, ended up with him raiding a Novacoke den to extract a wageslave who had gone AWOL. During the raid, his security team went off the rails and a firefight broke out, resulting in several children dying. A tweaked out junkie cranked out on Novacoke came charging at Harland with a katana and took off his arm. His team got him out of there, and he woke up in the hospital. His supervisor didn't want to see such a "young" guy like that, so he paid the bills, got him a shiny new arm (complete with shotgun), and helped him get setup in Seattle, far away from the horrors of working for Lone Star. Harland used his talent for tracking people down to open up shop as a private investigator, and has been working in Seattle for five years now.green shirt thursdays-

No, he's an Ork so he is SINless. Literally my highest cost gear/item was a max quality fake SIN. He never worked for the organization directly, just did the "dark" jobs for them.
I also bought gas masks, because of course my party won't and that'll give me a great "ya bunch of fuckin' morons" moment.green shirt thursdays-

Our party so far is:
Reck: Private Eye ex-security guy
UT: Big beefy chick whose mother was a stripper and hates all men (literally took points to make it so her "thing" is jumping off high places & crushing people)
Nuwen: Decker cat burglar
Esurio: Some kind of spellslinger
Pie: not suregreen shirt thursdays
