does anyone have a link to a good general hearthstone guide? I can find card lists and stuff, but I'm more interested in something more comprehensive.

so i've started playing this on my ipad. i feel like i'm fairly good with the play of the hand for the cards/decks i've been using (though by no means world class), but not very good at deck composition. That's particularly true in the Arena. Does anyone have any guidance or rules of thumb on how to approach arena deck building?

I assume arena uses matchmaking, so presumably if it's got your true matchmaking value 3/3 is the most likely result

On my
sixth
seventh win in arena. Last game was the only one where I felt the guy was actually kind of good. Are you sure there isn't some behind the scenes mmr?

i'm kind of upset that a game that has as much depth as it does has so little in the way of built in statistics. what a missed opportunity.

on another note, i started playing some ranked games for the first time, going from rank 25 to rank 18 and three stars today. i have lost a couple of games in that, but i've had way more winning streaks.

what's wrong with classic packs? i have yet to spend money on this game. i actually haven't been tempted yet, unlike LoL where I pretty much spent money as soon as I started.

I think built-in stats would intimidate new players. Blizzard trying to make a newb-friendly game is a really good business idea imo.

But... I am a new player. Plus I'm not saying you need to inundate by default, but just provide an advanced stats page or an api that lets third parties do so

There is a 3rd party program called Hearthstone Tracker for tracking w/l if that helps.

i have this on my desktop, but one of the reasons i started playing this was I got an ipad, and the ability to play from lots of locations (that is to say: the bathroom) is a major appeal to the game.

Just had a game on turn 2 that my opponent played: mechwarper, coin, mechwarper, micro machine, micro machine, annoy-o-tron. no idea how I'm supposed to counter that.

PS. Do we need to do the Username/Hearthstone name thing with this or are people fine with the way it is now? There's less of a point of being friends with people in HS than LoL.

I'm on an 8 game win streak (from rank 20 to rank 15) with my new mechmage deck i put together. although I came pretty close to losing when I accidentally did the following last game:

1. attack with my minion to put warrior at 9 health.
2. pyroblasted his minion by accident.

man it's satisfying when a guy says "well played" because he thinks he has me only to counter him and turn it around.

Spoiler: I wish they had replays built in
Hunter opponent plays a 9/7 or something legendary that has a deathrattle of being shuffled back into the deck. I play spidertank and taunt spare part to stall. He uses his legendary to attack the taunt, hunter power to bring me down to 13 health.

I frostbolt the 9/7 (now 9/4), bring it to 1 health, play an azure drake. He plays an 8/8 legendary with charge+hero power to bring me to 3 health, says "Well played." I fireblast the 1 health legendary, frost bolt the 8/8, stealth the azure drake with a spare part. He has 15 health left. He hunts me down to 1 health but has no more direct damage spells left. Pyroblast for 11 damage, azure drake attack for 4 wins the game.

second winning streak win (so I guess 5th win in a row?) brings me a couple stars shy of 13... we'll see if i can keep it up. I think I'm getting pretty lucky lately with my starting draws. The deck works really well with mechwarper in the opening hand, particularly if microbot is in there too.

nope. lost in terrible fashion. I was going too quickly and I attacked with my piloted shredder, killing it and putting an enemy at 1 health. I tried to fireblast that 1 health enemy but ended up fireblasting my 2-drop that was falling down the screen from my piloted shredder dying instead. whoops!

i got sneeds from an arena run last night. it's a mech, but i'm not sure what place it would take if I introduced it into my mechmage deck. It seems like it'd need to be more of a control deck than I run at that cost.

it's disheartening, but it doesn't feel like you lose that much gold from it. and at least you didn't spend a long time doing it! i think my 0-3 run I got 30 gold from in addition to the pack, so about 20 gold worse than just buying a pack

why is Duplicate's card text incorrect? wow.

It says:

SECRET: When a friendly minion dies, put 2 copies of it into your hand.

But apparently what it really means is when it dies not on your turn? or something? Because it definitely didn't trigger when I used my minions to attack another.

Or is this something to do with secrets?

Okay guys.

If you'd like to be on the list, please add yourself!

For hearthstone I decided to focus on your best rank for each month. Feel free to enter as much or as little data as you want, but it seemed in keeping with Hearthstone to sort of focus on the top achievement rather than try to figure out some average, particularly when entry is voluntary

PS. Hopefully kdowns doesn't mind I edited his OP.

i'd support making BGH legendary. I think the card cost is around what it should be

I have two big objections with the card:
1. It's a bit TOO meta gamey. It's ONLY ever a good card if your opponent plays a 7+ attack card, obviously, so it's this pretty huge meta game outguessing that feels kind of... petty. This objection isn't solved by changing its health to 1, it's only increased.
2. The stated weirdness where 6 attack cards are better than 7 attack cards all else equal.

What is the decisionmaking process on whether it's likely to be included? With hearthstone literally the only way to decide that is a general feeling of what's being played by the largest number of people recently. We don't even get to know our opponent's class before starting.

I mean you can have that opinion, but it's clearly not shared by Blizzard as the game doesn't offer the things you would expect if Tournament play were a point of emphasis. No replays, no way to watch high legend games through the client, most tournaments are organized as third party affairs, virtually no advanced statistics, etc.

Jaraxxus easily the most entertaining. I'd figure out a deck you need a card for.

If you're buying packs, Classic. (More cards and right now arena runs give GvG)

Also, if you haven't already, unlock Naxxramus.

you might need to make up decks special for naxx. There are some guides on the internet that'll walk you through that. they're often stupid decks for other use, but because of the unique mechanics at work in naxx they work there.

I mean this probably depends on whether you like playing Arena and how good you are at it. If you can average 4 wins or so in arena it's more efficient to play Arena, but you're also spending all that time playing Arena so if you hate it, that's not that great.

Personally I like to make sure I keep about 500 gold on hand to play Arena as I wish and spend excess on packs.

personal best of Rank 9. I should probably play this game more and try to get in the the low single digits? I don't know, i kind of expect it to get exponentially harder.

yeah, early on it can be tough to put together a really good deck with a lot of synergy. That doesn't mean all the decks are really expensive, but even common cards at the beginning are harder to come by.

Blackwing Technician is probably going to be kind of good once all the cards are released. Druid of the flame gives a beast, which maybe makes some other cards worthwhile? Doubtful though.

I've played a lot of facehunter, and while it's a quick deck where the chances of winning are largely decided in the early turns, I rarely am done by Turn 6. Plus I mean... my deck is only half the equation here. Plenty of times a control deck will try to stabilize and take us late into a game (games where I usually but not always lose).

Anyway, I used to have hearthtracker for my stuff, but I've since deleted the program... but my games were not THAT different between my decks.

Starting out just level up all characters to 10 following quests as much as possible. By then you'll have enough gold to do some arena runs and buy a few decks.
